Thanks to all for putting this instruction together. I used my K-5 to convert a 300mm F 4.0 * from SDM to screw drive this afternoon. The SDM failed on me right in the middle of an airshow. Fortunately, I have always preferred manual focusing so the overall effect on my images was minimal. The lens is working great now on all of my camera bodies.

Hi all,
My K-01 (bumblebee) started having this issue a few months ago. I would turn it on and the shutter would not open. Like many of you, if I would turn it off and then back on again it would start working again. The issue got more and more frequent until one day last week it just stayed stuck. No matter how many times I turned it off and back on, nothing. I tried all of the suggestions in this thread and was starting to lose hope when I decided to try something different. I removed the lens and manually moved the shutter with a precision screwdriver to make sure that it would indeed move. Once I had confirmed that there wasn't something physically holding it closed, set the camera on my desk and turned it on without a lens attached. The first time the first focal plane shutter moved, but the second focal plane didn't move. The second time, the second focal plane moved as well as the first and the sensor could be seen. I continued to turn the camera on and off until both focal planes consistently opened and stayed open (5 or 6 times). Now the camera is working as before. I am currently recharging the battery and will be taking it out for test shoot this afternoon. I'll report back with my progress in a few days.

Welcome to the club, mine is always with me in my car. I couple it with Pentax F 28-80 and a Pentax F 70-210 and love the results. I have also ventured to use it with a SMC 300 F4 and a Tokina 75-300 on occasion. My most used combo is with the Pentax F 50mm f1.7 though.

Hi folks,
For the last few days I have not been able to upload images to the Pentax Gallery for voting. Has anyone else had an issue?
Thanks,

I recently acquired an old Honeywell Pentax Bellows Unit off flea-bay for under $15.00 and wanted to give it a test so I put a K-adapter on it and mounted my SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 M42 lens on the front and headed to the backyard with my K5iis. Exposure data: Manual exposure at 1/160th, f11 (F 22 actual), Bellows extended to 1.6:1 mark, Sunpak 522 on manual set to 1/16th power. I handheld the camera and moved the camera closer and further away to focus (a bit tricky since the viewfinder was so dark, but live view helps). Razor thin depth-of-field even at this f-stop.

A couple of shots I got of an unusually cooperative Great Blue Heron at Gemini Springs Park in DeBary, FL on Monday of this week. All shots taken with the K-5 and SMC DA 55mm-300mm f4.0-5.8 ED.

I use Sunpak 522s, Vivitar 283s, and Pentax 280T units with my Pentax Kx all the time. I use the dirt cheap RD 616 triggers and photo slaves with up to 4 units successfully at full 180th of a second sync speed. I have 3 light stands and shoot through umbrellas too. My entire set-up cost under $200.00. You don't need to spend big money if you aren't using the set-up frequently. If you are using your set-up to make money, don't cheap out. You will be sorry.
