After noticing the small birds in this tree, I managed to get closer and set up my manual lens before they launched. :)

These Barn Swallows were seen squabbling over a nearby nest. The location was behind the maintenance shed at Parker River Wildlife Refuge, a.k.a. Plum Island, in Newburyport, MA, USA. This would not be able to meet the standards for a true Nature photo category, but it is a favorite image of mine, and worthy of hanging on my wall at home as fine art.

Enjoy.

Travel Ancient Chinese Monastery in the Mist

This Monastery is built, cut into, the side of a shear rock face. It was cold, misty, rainy that day. I could not see the mountain top or the valley floor below. I'm guessing about 500-600' up(my SWAG). Shooting was a 'bit cramped', I zoomed out as far as I could with my feet, without falling to my death. I had to be patient to get this shot. The area right in front of me was usually full of other tourists, it eventually cleared out and I pulled the trigger. The girl as the only person left in the scene was pure luck. My own tour group was yelling behind me, "we're leaving without you"! Good thing I'm in decent shape and do not get lost easily, catching back up was no problem :)

I'm very glad the girl is in this photograph. Her presence lends scale to the scene, and subject contrast. A very young and pretty Chinese maiden dwarfed by a very old and somewhat ugly Chinese Monastery. Without her presence, I feel this photograph would be just ho-hum. Soon, her generation will own and hopefully maintain these sites.

Portrait orientation film shots do not display well on computer screens, do they? I'm having to scroll up-n-down to see the entire photograph.

This is a view towards downtown from high up in an office building in Midtown Manhattan while the sun was setting. I used the MX-1 which is a surprisingly good little camera....if they only made an equivalent with a m4/3 sensor!!!

This is actually a ball of ice with snow on top on a little branch protruding from the ice on the frozen lake,it look to me like little frozen tree so i take the photo with 300 mm from the distance because it was too dangerous to walk on the ice.
P.S:

Its not my best photo, but I think it has a good wow factor. Most time i shoot in IR so the photos are mostly way to blurry and dreamy for such competition.
There are too many pictures of a dandelion. Fluffy, blurry, wet, oversharped, ripped in pieces etc.
I´ve tried to catch what the most of them miss, essence of a dandelion. That little explosion, bright and shiny, little world with its own unique architecture.
I shot it in the morning with a reversed pentax 50mm f1.4 on a tripod. The dew was already gone, but the seeds where still wet.
Hope you like it... :0)

This photograph got great feedback at the Photo Critique forum and the The 15mm Limited controls my mind thread so I decided to submit it for this contest.

It was late when returning to the hotel and the empty wagon scared me a bit. I took the photo and changed to the next wagon where there were some other souls.

IMGP0002.jpg por Fran Mora, en Flickr

It was taken handheld, using a K-5IIs body with Pentax-DA 15mm f/4 lens stopped down to f/8 for good depth of field and corner sharpness, ISO 1600 and 1/60sec shutter speed to avoid movement blur.

I'm quite proud of this shot of a beautiful lady (her name is... Egret). Taken in the morning (only yesterday) at the Murray River Barrage at Goolwa in South Australia. The tonings of the shot lent themselve to a B&W development and I used DXO Filmpack 4 to apply an elegant "Agfa APX 25" look.

Shot with a 26 year old 300mm Lens (F* 300 4.5) handheld on a K5II at F11, 1/90, ASA100 at +1EV.
