Okay figured I had ought to update with pictures from the camera.
Just routine cleaning, a new Kit lens added and after an outing with my dad to start getting him used to it, he took it on vacation to The Badlands in South Dakota. Took under 300 pictures (sadly in my opinion) but I uploaded a few to my photobucket account and I have to say def a good $20 purchase plus the new kit lens. And needless to say, I don't think I am going to get my $20 back or my camera . . . But it was worth it to see him so happy with his pictures (that his PnS could never have gotten like these) and to come back into the photography world- as he was the one that started me 20 years ago with my K1000. LOL That's like the best thing I have heard!!
I started with Pentax because that's what my dad had. (Pentax K1000) and I've been hooked since. I was the ONLY one in all my photography classes in college to have a pentax. Everyone kept telling me I needed to get a Canon. I actually interviewed with a company and when I told them what camera I had (K5 II) they said when I "felt like getting real equipment, not junk" that they would hire me. I told them when they wanted to hire talent over someone that wasn't bought by Canon or Nikon to give me a call. Not the best way to end an interview I know but still. My K5 II is not junk.

I am looking just for a working 18-55mm Kit lens to send off with my dad and my K200D. I just plucked a Pentax *IST DL off marketplace with lens hoping the lens worked and I cannot get it to work with my K5 II or the K200D(Nor get the body to work). So now back to the drawing board to find an inexpensive Kit lens to send with him!

Yes Mikesbike- that's likely what I am going to do. I only have an 18-55 Kit lens and a Pentax DA 1:4-5.6 50-200MM lens for my K-5 II. Original intent had been to buy the camera for the lenses for the K-5 II($20 why not?) but after making the K200D work I couldn't see any reason to not actually use it as a camera and let him have it. Been out with the K200D yesterday and tried the telephoto lens with the K-5 II and I just like my current lenses over them so Going to try and find another 18-55 kit lens to send with him.
It still will need to be cleaned before he gets it. Ordering some of the items mentioned to clean the sensor so it doesn't give him any problems. I personally have been out of photography for a couple years due to work hours and this gave me the nudge to get everything back out (get back here) and start taking them out to enjoy shooting again. I even have some film in my film camera bag that I could use too; I have 2 -K1000's that I can take out. I have a Pentax loyalty addiction. So overall $20(So far) well spent. Now to order the stuff to help clean the sensor and keep that in my camera bag. And happy photo hunting time!

I think that was the issue, it wasn't on "A" It seems to be working fine now.
I've just been cleaning the camera. It just physically looks dirty. And need to figure out the lens size to put a filter on the end. bigger than the 55's I have for my K1000 lenses or the 52's I have for my K5, is there a 57 or 59? Hmm. Time to do some research. the battery compartment def needs a good cleaning. That's how it was sold as non working because there was some battery corrosion. It has the User manual & camera bag with it. $20 was def a deal I think for it. it has a Pentax 28-80 (1:3.5-5.6) lens on it but it's not what would have came with it- the body is all black but this lens is not. That's fine with me though I have my 18-55MM Kit lens as well, it was the Quantaray 70(1:4-5.6) that I was after, once I put it on "A" the K5 took it just fine. I need to get outside with it and just start playing with the lenses and the other camera. I guess in the end I will likely send this one off with my dad to use over his ancient PnS when he goes out West (we are in KY, but he was born in Idaho and longs to go visit again). My brother, who picked it up said he thinks the guy just used the excuse of it not working(Despite not even trying to clean it) to get a new camera. He said the guy had a nice brand new Nikon sitting there. I've always been partial to Pentax cameras since my first ever camera was a 35MM Pentax PnS which I still have and is still in great condition. ---------- Post added 06-19-21 at 12:42 PM ----------
How would you clean it if there is dust/pollen on the sensor? It's not raining yet so I am picking up some batteries shortly and will get it outside.

So my brother found me a Pentax K200D, on what I assume was his craigslist up in New Hampshire for $20, said the body didn't work. He cleaned up the battery compartment and put some fresh batteries in it and it works fine but I feel like it needs a thorough cleaning and I can then give it to my dad to use. I personally have a K5ii for myself. I had hoped the lenses would have worked at least in my K5ii but alas they do not so I figured to clean this one and let my dad use it for when he travels, better than his ancient old PnS he has.
Is there somewhere I can send it for cleaning? I may take it outside tomorrow morning and use my horses as photo test subjects see how messy it is by comparison to the K5ii. I know they are leagues apart in terms of outdated but for $20 to take a chance on the lenses, it wasn't a bad gamble.

NOT a good digital copy but still one of my favorite pictures I took during my college years (2003-2005). I had to develop and process everything in my photo journalism classes so it was all by me. Taken with my Pentax K1000 (Yes the camera is older than I am!) |

I have 2 working K1000's (one was my fathers, one is the one he got me so I quit stealing his) and 1 parts K1000 that just has a broken back but I don't want to bother fixing it since I already have 2 working ones. Plus I have my first camera which is an Olympus PnS film camera that works.

SO much YES to that. I know it's an older style but I LOVE it. I start to feel like I have forgotten EVERYTHING I learned with my K1000 for my photojournalism degree but then I take the K5II camera out and just play with it some more. I still have my K1000's and film so I can still take that out as well.

I've gone a few Weddings, even had a couple pay me to travel back(we met when I lived in NY and worked with them, then I moved to KY) to do their wedding. Their wedding was done with my K100D, I did 3 or 4 weddings with my K1000 before DSLR's were at a decent price. I'm by no means a professional but I'll start online albums and start getting them uploaded.

Since apparently my other one disappeared I can't find it anywhere. This is my submission to the contest for a K3 body. This is a completely untouched, un cropped image that I took a long time ago with my Pentax K1000. It was on Kodack black and white film, I developed my film myself and printed myself. When I was doing black and whites I was into tone and texture. The reflection of his hands, the textures in his sweater, the background tones just melding to keep the focus on him. It has always been one of my favorite shots. Hopefully I can get back to my film black and whites or at least go back to shooting black and whites one day. |

I have 2 K1000's and they were my starter camera's and Even through what I've put mine through, they've never failed me. I've got filters and all sorts of lenses that I play with on it. If i can get back to a place to develop film I'll be going back to playing with them again!

I've been 'seduced' in the lure of the camera many years ago, when I needed an art credit in college. I'm strictly a Pentax or Olympus girl. I started with an Olympus point and shoot 35mm camera(which I still have) then I took a photography class with my Dad's Pentax Ashasi K1000 and he then got me, my own K1000. I still have both cameras as he gave his up. I also inherited an Olympus OM1, which I have rehomed with a collector. I keep Olympus Point and shoot digetal, first was an FFE 220, and now is a Stylus. But my favorite camera is my DSLR- 1st DSLR I had was a K100D, My brother wanted to see me go back more into my photography so he got me a K5 body which worked with my lenses.
I still miss the 35mm black and white though! I'll leave this with a black and white that I did a while back in college when I developed my own photo's and film. |
