This was taken on a tour bus when we were in Italy. We had a particularly bad tour guide at one point during the trip and I started looking around the bus for abstract images of the seats. I loved the texture with the curving lines of trim.
I caught the reflection of light from these glasses and then realized if I moved a bit I could see the girl in the seat tuning out on her headphones and the device she was using to listen. I still had my abstract seat picture with the curving lines as my back ground but I thought catching this moment of distraction made this image special.

an early attempt at editing with PS and plug-ins. Might have overdone the focus softening?

He definitely looks peaceful. I enjoy the look on his face, the dynamics of the water, and the color. Not sure about the lighting though.
in any case, nominated.

The shot was taken in Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River in Myanmar. It is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries.

My family and I attended the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg. It was very hot with a threat of an afternoon/evening thunderstorm in the forecast each day. On the third day, during the reenactment of Pickett's charge, very dark and ominous storm clouds gathered. Fortunately the rain and lightning held off until after the reenactment. We returned to our campground and when the rain let up a bit, we went up to the area of the battlefield known as the "Highwater" mark where the Confederate line breached the Union line. The clouds were still very dark and heavy, with a little light rain falling. As I wandered along Hancock Ave. I approached a photgrapher. He had his camera mounted on a tripod (with a rain cover) and was using a neutral density filter/long exposure to capture the swiflty moving low cloud cover. I said "Hi", he looked and then grumbled at me. I said "Clouds are really moving," he grumbled again. I wished him luck with his shooting, and he grumbled something back at me as I walked away. I chose to go in the opposit direction of where he was standing. I walked to the highwater mark area. As I came up to a row of cannons, the sun suddenly broke through the heavy clouds, producing an absolutely stunning sunset and with an interesting refelction on this one cannon. This lasted for only a few moments, but it was pretty spectacular. I suppose I should thank the grumpy photographer, as had he been the least bit friendly, I would have missed this shot.

Thanks for your comment.
One challenge I have placed on myself (generally) is to use the lens itself to crop the image (I have lots of prime lenses ;)). While I do crop in Photoshop I also try to minimise this as much as possible. I do this to try and preserve the natural characteristics of the lens in addition to the satisfaction one gets when the effort expended works.
This shot was not cropped in photoshop. This is one of the reasons why I like this image so much - I have not used photoshop at all (image straight from the camera)
Cheers ;)

This shot was taken at the Hard Labor Creek State Park near Rutledge GA USA. This sunrise was just moments ahead of a storm front, and the sky closed out only a few minutes afterward. I the orange-golden glow at the water horizon only lasted for about 10 second so I had to shoot quickly.
