PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED [IF] Asking Price
$450.00 USD Item Location
Pittsburgh, PA (United States) Item Description
I have owned this SMC Pentax-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED [IF] for about 10 years.
I have always had a filter mounted.
I got a lot less use out of when when I purchased my 60-250 but in some situations it is superior due to its weight, aperture and internal zoom
I have converted this to screw drive. I did it when I converted by 16-50. I didn't do it because the SDM was going bad. I did it because I had learned how to do it and while I was doing one lens I would do the other as a preventative measure to wearing out this SDM.

Great work and thank you for sharing.
Begs the question why every body and lens delivered shouldn’t be delivered with a calibration “number” / certificate .... this value could be measured as the final QA step before boxing?
When the user receives a new lens all they need to do is cross reference a table/calculation where they input the body’s value and the lens value and it tells them what value to input into the fine adjustment? This should work should it not?

Interesting test and coincidentally enough I was in RMNP at the same time (even though I live in Indiana) hiking with my 82 year old mother (so we didn’t get as far off Trail Ridge Rd as you). There was a lot of haze which I heard was due to a forest fire in western CO which I think you can see some impact of in your photos as well.
3 questions
1) I assume you shoot RAW? Could some of the difference in results be how LR processes the RAW file? So, if you tried to RAW process the K1 file to look more like the 645D is it possible?
2) could the lenses (lens coatings primarily) account for the difference?
3) you are using 645D and not 645Z. Do you think results would be same or even better or more extreme with the newer “Z”? (Maybe someone else knows who has compared the 2?)
Thanks

Someone should buy this as a package!! That is a lot of great equipment for $2,500 -- I actually know because I have almost the identical set of equipment (but not the tripod) including the experience with waking up the DA* lenses

Wow. Hard to pick just one but I did. Congratulations to all the finalists. ---------- Post added 07-15-18 at 07:24 PM ---------- Maybe this is an indication that we need more “rivers and fjords” contests with some additional criteria. Such as, season, angle of view, time of day, presence of human activity, cold, hot...

I too have used Prior versions of ON1 and concur that it is a good product. I wish the could but the Aperture 3 code from Apple so they could make for an easy transition...

How was your experience of the reach of the 300? Was it long enough or did you crop a lot? How was the focus performance? Any hints you learned?

+1 for the darkroom.
Both my kids took photo in high school in the last 5 years and the darkroom work in B&W really set the hook for them as well. It really drives home the triad of sensitivity, aperture and time.
I wish there was a darkroom club I could belong to. I think I would get a medium format Pentax.

First. I am NOT a professional photographer and so do not want to falsely project my needs as similar to the other posters.
My only reason to add a post is to share that as a consumer who has used the lowest tier of SmugMug for about 5 years I have been very happy with their product.
I may be an optimist or neive but I would assume that part of the technical problems may be on the sellers side (Yahoo) and not just the buyers side. It must be a lot of work to untangle Flikr from the Yahoo! Web.
Personally I have little at risk, unlike a pro photographer whose livelihood depends on their product, so I will stick out the merger for a year and see what it brings.

I have a DA*60-250 on a K-3ii and I think the bayonet mount between these two has too much play / tolerance. On occasion it has stopped functioning and given the Ff error in the LCD screen. I think this is because some of the electrical contacts between the lens and body are shorting.
It is starting to happen pretty often. So now I’m worried about the situation.
Typically I mount the lens on a monopod and grip the body and I think this can put a lot more stress on the bayonet than normal hand held. While it is hard to reproduce I think I can prevent the failure by putting some compensating twist into my grip.
Anyone have similar experiences?
Thoughts on how to solve?
Any thoughts on anything to measure or test?
Thank you

There is a Pentax accessory which has a plug on it just like a headphone but is really a trigger signal. On Bulb the trigger can hold the shutter open. “Pentax Cable Switch 205“
~$50 at Adorama
Other brands will work to I assume but I have the above and it works on my K5 and K3

Had my DA* 60-250 for about 1.5 years. I purchased it new. Recently a few times the auto focus has stopped working. Here is what I have experienced:
Been using it for an hour or more and then all of a sudden I notice it isn’t focusing. I notice it sounds like it is trying with a momentary electrical squeak. Trying to manually focus I notice the outside barrel used to manually focus is not reliably moving the mechanism (looking through the window where the focus distance shows it moves slightly then stops). After manually working the focus barrel back and forth zooming etc. and not feeling anything mechanically binding it seems to start working again....
1) do you think it is mechanical?
2) do you think it is electronic (SDM)?
3) any tests I can do to confirm?
4) where do you think I should get it repaired?
Thanks

Are you shooting hand held or on a monopod? That can impact the long end. I shoot the 60-250 for my son's soccer games and its focus speed is a little wanting but when focus is on it looks great. WR is a must for soccer. My son is U-19 and I can say that in the future you will want as fast a lens as you can get as they play under lights at night. I first used the 50-135 and it did ok but needed better reach. I added a 1.4TC but never had great results so graduated to 60-250 and found it to be my best combination so far.
