I pulled the trigger once it dropped to $1006. Received it 2 days ago; it arrived fairly loose in the amazon box; though the lens itself was well wrapped in bubble wrap, and the lens was located inside its official Pentax lens pouch, and further wrapped in plastic inside. It did not come with the Pentax box though, only the warranty card. The lens seems to perform well on my K3iii (even though I haven't updated the firmware), but I haven't had time to perform extensive testing yet. As far as I can tell, it looks brand new other than the missing box. We'll see...

Sorry folks, it was me! I actually did not see this post before buying it though. I just got lucky and happened to check last week. I received it a few days ago and have only taken a few quick snaps with it on the K1. Hopefully it will perform as well optically as my DA*60-250. As for autofocus, the 70-210 is certainly quicker than my 60-250.

I bought the DFA 150-450 from BHPhoto a few weeks ago for $2179.95, and then saw this thread today showing the price to be $1996.95. A very quick phone call to BHPhoto's customer service resulted in them granting me a $183 refund to my credit card to honor the new price. I just thought that I'd point out the fact that BHPhoto has excellent customer service (as if folks didn't already know that :)
On a different note, the new price for the DFA 70-200 has me very tempted, but I surely cannot justify another huge purchase in the same month. Ugh...

I've used the capture pro for a few years now, without any incident, and that includes having a K-5iis plus DA18-135 mounted on my shoulder strap of my backpack while downhill skiing, sometimes at speeds of 60+ mph (I know, not very smart). Anyway, I highly recommend the product, and am sorry to hear about the OP's K-3 mishap. As for the above question, I know there is an easy way to add additional security, especially if the backpack has a horizontal chest strap. A camera strap or fairly long wrist strap could be looped around the horizontal chest strap and would certainly prevent complete droppage should a failure take place. That of course may impede some of the convenience/efficiency of using the capture one depending on the length of the camera strap/wrist strap, but that is the trade off for peace of mind. I usually use my capture one on a Dakine Vertex backpack, on my left shoulder strap, mounted so that the camera slides in from the top. Occasionally I will have a 2nd lens (i.e heavy 60-250) (in padded pouch) or a smaller point n shoot camera or Ricoh GR dangling from the horizontal chest strap while also having the K-5iis + lens mounted on the capture one on the vertical shoulder strap next to it.. These are not ideal conditions, and I certainly don't ski with that configuration, but I've never had any of those items drop either, so that should give you some sense of the extra security possibilities I'm referring to...

As a matter of fact, my wallet is much lighter since buying my first DSLR, the K10! Addiction anyone?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself as a longtime lurker on this forum, but never posted before. I've received some great info and advice here, and I really appreciate it. I hope to return the favor in the future, as well as continue to learn from everyone. My love for Pentax began with the K10 and FA50 f/1.4, despite its significant backfocus issues. I simply learned to adjust while shooting, picking out focus points in front of my subject. I sold that camera body a few years ago to a newcomer to Pentax, and I've talked at least 3 or 4 other folks over the years to go the Pentax way. Anyway, my current, ever expanding arsenal:
K5 iis
K5
K-01
MX-1
Ricoh GR
Wide angle lens for Ricoh GR
DA 18-135 WR
FA31 limited
FA77 limited
FA50 f/1.4
DA35 macro limited
DFA 100 macro WR
DA* 60-250
DA40xs
Sigma 10-20
Tamron 70-300
Pentax 540 flash
Again, thanks to all the members of this forum!
