A faster K30D (5-7fps) with improved AF speed and a K300D with a 14.6m sensor which records HD video until the card is full and also retains AA batteriers next year will not go amiss...

After that, there is K-M II or K3000 to pick up the pieces...

Everyone wants a Ferrari, but at the end of the day a Ford takes us from A to B...slower,yet just about on time.

Let Canon,Nikon and Sony fight out the FF market,in which I don't think any of them can make a huge profit. Meanwhile Pentax just keep churning out affordable,light-weighted,well-featured Dslrs and Lenses, then when it's ready, just produce a MF,something between 40m-60m with half a dozen of quality primes to go with it to accommodate the 'PROS' in Landscape and Fashion, and something for us Pentaxians to look up to as well.

Let us all be honest, Pentax is waaaaaaaaay too late for the Sports side of business. Never did, never will...

Half of the leica S2 price would be wonderfull!!!

When Sigma 70-200 F2.8 HSM fitted with Sigma 1.4x or 2x Teleconverter on Pentax, due to the contacts on the Tele, the lens loses HSM function,as a result it CAN NOT Auto Focus, Only MF.

Thats why sigma has just released the new teleconverters for SONY mount just to retain the HSM, but no news for PENTAX mounts yet as usual....and dont worry about Canon or Nikon mounts, they have been looked after from the start.

Though I do believe when the newly-announced Pentax Tele is fitted on any sigma HSM lens, it should be working fine. We will wait and see.

Cheers for some of your input ,just to put all of us out of misery, I got a reply from Tamron today--

That is because they are internal focus lenses in which the inside elements rotate a move to achieve focus and per industry standards, if compared with each other, you have to set the focus to infinity. This allows for the variable of where the elements may be to be eliminated.

Tamron USA

BTW, Tamron only has a distributer in the UK,and of course no reply from them yet

Just wonder if this applies to all the other 'IF' Zoom Lenses...or just Tamrons.

250mm Gives Different Angle of View???

The camera was on a £200 worth Tripod, so it couldn't have moved unless there had been a earthquake in the space of that 30 seconds.

This is a not a difference of DOF,its the angle of view. Both lenses at 250mm, the 70-300mm seems to reach a lot longer. I know the 70-300mm is a FF, but isn't 250mm always the SAME angle of view??

Anyone here has the 2 two lenses so you can try like I did? A tripod is not really neccessary, coz the difference is so remarkable that I only needed to see through the viewfinder to see it.

I was playing around with my 2 Tamron Lenses 18-250mm, 70-300mm.

I noticed something very strange!!!

Both pics taken by each lens at 250mm from the same distance with K20D on a tripod.

The 70-300mm gives a much much narrower angle of view! In other words, it seems lot longer.

And yes,I also tried 70mm,100mm 135mm... THE SAME Difference!

Could anyone enlighten me on this?

Going to try it next week when he receives it from sigma UK.

Anyone tried it yet?

Samsung Plans On Buying Out SanDisk

Samsung Electronics considers buying SanDisk - Austin Business Journal:

I think the growth of Samsung is generally good news for K-Mount. No matter what brand.

Imagine when Pentax or Samsung comes out with a Super Fast shutter speed Dslr (say 15-20 fps at full resolution),and there is a 30gb sandisk SD card to match
that speed without delay at all...

Don't think the K20D upgrade will be called K20D Super, it just sounds too cheesy.

Something like K20D MK II or K20D HD (If it has HD Movie Capture) will sound much better.

My DA* 16-50mm is fast and sharp edge to edge on my K20D and K100 Super. Very happy with it!

Too many ppl expect it to be as good and fast as a Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 on a D3.

NO! It ain't. You get what you pay for. But you can't beat Pentax for value,be it lens or camera.

Get a f1.4 lens to produce a shallow depth of field on a cropped sensor, anything faster than that, you will almost miss your focus point.

There is no 'HATE',my friend! But there is just way too many ppl on various forums who presumably own just a Pentax W30 keep criticizing or blaming Pentax for not having a FF Dslr!!!

Pentax hasn't got any major FF compatible lens at the moment or any expensive FF lens owned by a lot of ppl,so you make no loss by buying a Canon or Nikon FF Dslr and their FF lens. You know what I mean? Such a simple solution!

It seems to me that a lot of ppl just want a Penatx FF Dslr for the price of K200, even then, some will say the photos taken at ISO 10000 don't look as sharp as the photos taken on a D3 at ISO 10001...

When my dealer said a few nice primes, i think it would include something in the 70mm-85mm range,of course, there is the 55mm f1.4 thats already announced.

I personally think when Pentax bring out a few more good primes at f1.4-f2,60-250mm f4, probably a 300mm f2.8,also something like a 500mm f4 and a couple of teleconverters, they will have a quite complete and competitive system. A ring fash would be nice too since we don't get much support from third-party manufactures.

THEN Pentax comes out with Body that does 600fps HD movie with auto focus(Casio does that already,Samsung can do it better), and also has Built-in Filters from PL to Close-up to Infra...(Hoya might be a little reluctant to do it since it has another business to run,but you never know!)......

As for FF wannabes, I doubt any of you has so heavily invested in Pentax gears that you can't get out, since Pentax hasn't produced anything excessively expensive for a long long long time. Just go buy yourself a Nikon or Canon or even Sony.

You are spot on!!! Exactly what i heard!!!

As for a new body, why the hurry?? My view is that to let Nikon and Canon play their hands, fight against each other for a while, then Pentax come out with a 'MONSTER'!!! Put them both out of business in a flash!!! Haha...

Joking aside, Pentax will (should)continue to play to its own strength, and thats quality, affordability, not quantity, such as five or six lines of dslrs. Pentax doesn't necessarily need to have a very large share of the market to be profitable, because Pentax doesn't hand out millions of dollars worth of cameras and lenses each year to 'Pros' to do football,tennis,basketball,golf,oscars...

BTW,do you think Samsung can't make a Full Frame 'K-Movie' sensor now if they really really want to ? But will it make economical sense? Will it be a sound investment considering certain brands' domination at the moment? If ever K mount builds up to a certain level in terms of prestige and market share, be it Pentax,be it Samsung,be it Hoya, we will see a sucker punch from a K-mount Dslr!!!

So,get your brothers, your sisters, your mothers, your fathers, your children, your cousins, your friends,in fact, ask all the people you know to buy a Pentax or Samsung now,we might just get there much sooner!

Went into my local camera shop in Wales today, which is also a Pentax Pro Dealer. The owner told me about a chat he had with his Pentax rep here in the UK,He said Pentax are definitely going to expand its Lens Range, a few primes are to be introduced soon, also the long-waited DA* 60-250 f4 seems ready to see the light of day! What's more,Pentax are also bringing out some teleconverters before long!

This is the same guy who told me about a certain Nikon D90 with 12mp 6 WEEKS AGO!!!

On a side note, If you must know,Nikon D3X (or whatever its called) with 24mp(more or less) is on the horizon too...

Sigma hsm 70-200 f2.8 for Pentax should be ready to ship by the end of sep, and I was told Sigma will also do a free 2xTeleconverter with it. Well, at least thats what I am getting from my local shop!:D

Nikon D90 is up and running now, 12mp,4.5fps,HD movie capture...

I can get a K20D and decent high zoom HD Camcorder( Palm -sized), for less than the price of a D90...

Just read a hands-on preview on Imaging Resource, that Guy was dissappointed D90 only does 4.5fps instead of 5fps!!! How stupid can a man be!!!

Dslr is about PHOTOGRAPHY,NOT MOVIES!!!

At iso 1600 or even iso 800, You do get a cleaner image with D300 than K20D,but you lose some details. Pentax focused on retaining details other than adding strong NR, I believe that was their intention when Samsung designed the sensor.

Because you always can reduce noise in post production, but when details are gone, they are gone forever!

I tried reducing noise on K20D Raw files in LR2,I got fairly clean and much detailed images.

If you buy a expensive DSLR and don't post proccess the images at all, then you should stick to Pentax W60!!!

BTW,anyone wants fast fps, don't buy pentax,go buy a Casio Ex-F1,it does 60 fps in 6mp,it even has a flash to do 7 fps and the images are pretty good too. 10 fps is not even close to what my Casio can do!!!

K20D vs Canon 50D & Nikon D90

Canon seems to be a little desperate now, they broke their 18-month update cycle just to put a 15.1mp sensor into a 40d Body(a few other tweaks, nothing significant or ground breaking).

Now, on their ad,they can 'proudly' claim to have the' highest resolution in its class'(against K20D's 14.6mp). I believe they done that on purpose just to take it away from Pentax. There is no real world difference between 15.1mp and 14.6mp,but it looks and sounds a lot bigger!!!

No doubting that Canon can sqeeze 15.1mp on to a 1.6 sensor( Even Casio can do a 14mp in a P&S). But we are gonna see a lot of noise reduction above iso600or iso800 which makes photos clean ,but soft. Same with 10mp in a 4/3 sensor.

Who says Pixel race is over?? Did anyone forget to tell Canon?

Just got my K20D with Battery Grip, Two Da * Lenses (16-50mm and 50-135mm) and a Carbon Fibre Tripod with 488Rc2 head for the price of a Nikon D700 Body after Pentax cashback in UK. Given a choice again,I would buy the same any day of the week. Would you?

Samsung GX-10 vs. K10D?

Have them both, pretty much the same camera in different names.

The menus are only different in layout and colour, but you get exactly the same settings. Samsung's is done better in my opinion.

Pentax can record in PEF raw format in addition to DNG raw format(Samsung only records in DNG),which doesn't make a whole lot of difference in real world, most raw softwares can convert both, produce the same results.

All pentax original or third party accessories are compatible with GX-10,bar the Battery Grip due to a tiny tiny body(2mm-3mm) design difference. But you can get the Samsung Grip for roughly the same price.

With Pentax K10D,you can use Pentax updated Remote Assistant software, which means can connect you camera to your computer and shoot live.(I never used it!)

Last but by all means not least,The two cameras produce slightly different colours indoors in low lighting under the same settings. Never really compared them outdoors.

These are all the differences that i can tell you. With GX-10's firmware updated, there is no problem using new Pentax DA Star lenses either.

All in all, The two cameras are like twins wearing different shoes and clothes!

360 degree view from the photographers' stand, you can use your mouse to turn the picture to different angles.

Loads of monster lenses,White and Black, sadly just no Gold Rings...

Between this lens, sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and tamron 17-50mm f2.8,believe me,the forever-lasting build quality, weather seal, and SDM of Pentax DA Star is worth every extra penny you pay.

As i said, don't buy it on line, pop down to a shop if you can,it doesn't take long to check the focus correctness and edge sharpness, any magazines or books would do the trick. It probably took me 10 shots in the shop to conclude that the lens is focusing fine, edges are ok,and the IQ is much better than the kit lens. Oh,also a word of warning,at f2.8 indoors,it doesn't look the same as when you stop it down a bit,the same goes for all other fast lens of any brand!!! Watch your shutter speed too while testing inside a shop, bump up the ISO or use a external flash if necessary.

From now on for me, any lens i buy has to be SDM or HSM. Once I heard the focusing sound(or the lack of it),there is just no way back back for me...
