Tamron SP 90 52B compared to 72B

I finally ended-up getting SP 90 2.5. It is a beautiful thing.
Here my impressions:
- Hot spot is there after f11, it disappears with 2x SP teleconverter.
- Sharpness, bokeh is excellent based on my amateur experience.
- Very easy to focus
- Works for portraits
- Macro (an opposite to astrophotography :) ) is fun

Next week or so I will try to compare it to my 135 2.5/3.5 SMC Takumars.

Good day,

I'm trying to compare another set of lenses. This time Takumar 200 3.5 version to SMC 4 version.

I know one is ~20% heavier.

I read reviews on both and 3.5 seems to be more impressive then 4. However, I would be very happy to hear relative opinion from anyone who worked with both on:
- contrast
- aberrations
- resolution
- how easy is to focus

Couldn't find any MTF numbers. Would be thankful if i get pointed to it.

Many thanks

Tamron SP 90 52B compared to 72B

Good day,

I'm trying to decide between 52B and 72B version for purposes of portrait photo and occasional macro.
  • 72B should have better bokeh with 9 blades (but i did not mind 52B's bokeh)

  • 72B 1:1 macro is good, but i don't mind to try 52B with macro rings

  • 52B is slightly brighter

  • 52B can cause purple/hot spot on higher F's

  • 52B about 40% cheaper

  • Seems like some SP 90 later models have its aperture stepping down on itself depending on focusing distance. Is it an issue for 72B or 52B?

The most important matter is contrast. 72B seem to be better(Glass, Metal and Silicium - 90mm macro lenses comparison (manual focus))
Does 52B require a lot of post-processing for this reason? I absolutely do not have time for post-processing....

Any advice is welcome.

Thank you.

Good day,

Is "$160 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm F2.5 + Hood" still available?
What version is it (ie # of aperture blades, part #)?

thanks
