last night, I upgraded the firmware and reset all the settings and it seems to be better. I don't know what the setting was that was off, which is frustrating because I don't want it to happen again!

Okay lets try this again with a better test photo. So I basically set the camera down, 2 sec timer, used a piece of paper with the lens name on it to test the lenses too. I took one image with focusing live view, then took one image focusing with viewfinder - I used autofocus each time. When I look at the live view, it's slightly out of focus. Like in viewfinder image, I can see the paper grain. In live view it's not as sharp.

Cactus flash system issues

My husband thankfully is very good at fixing things and computer like things. He took it apart and the wheel had come off the track. He glued it back on and managed to get it working right. I had the old trigger that stopped working he used as a guide to take apart.
So it works, as of today (knock on wood it lasts) I took a whole session of self portraits, the trigger worked as remote and flash.
I have a love/hate relationship at this point. It works great...when it works.

Cactus system doesn’t work with one lens?

Yes. Manual mode

V6 triggers. Yes rf60, that was a missed typo. So if I have problems with firing it’s more likely camera issue? Sometimes when it doesn’t fire, I turn everything off remove the trigger and retighten, but that doesn’t always work. I wonder if there is something with the hot shoe. I have 2 transceivers, one cactus flash and the other flash is a nikon sb 800. I used the cactus flash mostly now but I would have random issues when I used the nikon. I don’t do paid work and this was mostly lighting for stuff at home, so fiddling around checking things is not a problem but yesterday I had my niece in her wedding dress and she just wanted to be done, so I did not have time to mess around. I shot 4 with the 100, flash went off once out of 4 shots. Went back to other lens and flash worked. Tried with 100 again, flash went off on first but not rest, so I took it off and went back to other lens. That lens was fine. We were in a hallway and flash was on a lightstand in corner bouncing light up into ceiling. I did test shots with my daughter first, so thankfully 1/2 the non flashed were of her.

Now that you mention it could be a camera issue (if I am understand correctly) that makes sense. I have had the k-3 since it first came out and used it very heavily. I have had it repaired due to one fall years ago and maybe there was some damage that was not noticeable. Anyway I am going to try to see if the issue with that lens can be recreated today and see if I can troubleshoot a bit.

I downloaded a trial to Capture One and it looks like many updates have been made (or maybe I didn't notice before) You can upload a Lightroom catalog and it will retain the collections, which was my biggest concern when switching software.

I also just read Luminar will be getting an asset manager as part of its update next year, at a final price of under $70.

I was surprised, Capture One does keep crop and rotation, white balance, saturation and metadata and a few more things. There some edits that did not come over, but the majority of my work came over with the same edits.

How do I find a 'Traditional' Wedding Photographer?

My wedding photographer was probably what type she is looking for. Honestly I picked him because he had a MFA in photography and I interviewed a lot of photographers, which took up a lot of time, but soooo many were just awful. I have a degree myself, so if they were condescending when I questioned them, they were out. But I did look at degrees and educational background. I didn't want the "fluff" stories. Maybe that was snobby of me, but I felt he was into photography and not trend. Normally I wouldn't be like that, but found the more formal education the photographer had, the more they were really about the business of photography and not "storytelling" or being all cute and more into trying to get what I wanted.

But I think I found him through a professional association. Maybe try here Find-a-Photographer | See The Difference | Find a Photographer
I honestly can't remember how I found him but I do know it probably interviewed 8 or 10 photographers

Interesting question, In college I was asked if I could join the computer department (this was way back in the early 90s so I don't know what it exactly it was called but I was doing coding, as an elective. They had no women as a major back then - at my school anyway - and since I did really well, they asked me to continue) I said I was a photo major and the teacher told me I shouldn't be, lol. I often wondered what would have happened if I took that path instead of being a photo major! But I was hooked when I went to a camp as a child and a counselor showed us how to print in a darkroom, something I think they would never do with an 8 year old now - the toxic chemicals and all! It was magic. Plus he also taught us to look at things differently - a trash can was an alien, a pothole cover was really a fun maze for bugs, so we took photos of normal things and called them other things and then printed it all in a darkroom and showed the rest of the camp.

I stopped for a long long time, but now I can say I shoot again because I can convey my feelings better than I can speak them. I'd love to be able to paint or draw, but I can't. Also I want to take picture of odd things and show the beauty in them.

I am not sure what you want others to say - I am sure many people on this board would have graciously helped you. It is a complex camera, I too struggle and I have owned it for 2 years, but that won't stop me from lusting after the K1. But I asked many questions and read the forum a lot and trouble shoot.

"I watched it go away in the trash truck" Wow, this makes me so sad. I am sure there are plenty of kids who would have LOVED to have a camera donated to their arts program, especially one so new. It's a shame to throw something away when so many other people could have used it and appreciated it and probably figured out what was going on with it. So many kids want to get into photography and can't afford a digital camera as good as the K3. I see you are in Lancaster - it's not far from Baltimore, and kids in programs all over the area want donations of digital cameras to teach young kids the arts. If it broken, at least it could have been put in e-cycle programs and recycled.

Reversed Hood shooters - what should you say to them?

I don't really look at that. I think most photographers must laugh at me then. I do everything wrong. But I love it. And I like the pictures I do. If I did everything "right" I think my photos would look different and not how I would like. I never use a lens hood *gasp* I always lose them. I will take them off for something and then misplace them. So if someone reverses it, they are smarter than me because they still have one and I don't.

you can download gramblr. It looks cheesy since they updated it, but you can upload photos and add hashtags through that. It's what I use, you can also schedule your posts, but it didn't work too well when I used it once. Also lightroom has a plug in, you can pay for it. Someone made it, not Lightroom.
Just make sure to export your files to 1080 on longest size.

Planned or on the fly?

I think I am planned on the fly? or on the fly yet planned? LOL - I don't fully plan like 'wake up at 4 drive across the county to get a sunrise' plan, but I plan a mood or a thought and look for things that fit that and when I am out I try to think I want a shape or a look and I take the time to focus and set up the shot accordingly. When I try to take things on pure on the fly - like "wow look a hawk sitting on a swing in my backyard, let me get a picture" - it never turns out. And then I beat myself up terribly for it being out of focus or having too low shutter speed or other silly mistakes. I think I get too excited in the moment and just stop paying attention.

Pentax Camera Users / Not Common?

That is how I learned, my father got a Pentax as a birthday gift and never used it, he just was not into photography. He worked in the medical field so all his assistants gave a big gift to him. I believe it was probably around $200 at the time. It sat in a box for maybe 5 years, maybe less, and my friend and I took a photography class in high school and I used the Pentax. I stuck with it and used the camera all through college, teacher said "great cameras, I love Pentax, solid workhorse." I dropped that camera down rock crevices, while hiking, picked it up and moved on. I had a Nikon digital when I started out and then realized Pentax made digital cameras, so I upgraded. Went back to Pentax and will probably stay.

I have only been posting for probably 2 years and I have not posted as much lately. I am pretty picky about the posts I look through but a few I have seen, that I have been in, what I think would be supportive posts, have been rather nasty. As I tell my kids, if you have nothing nice to say, move on. But there seem to be a few people who only post to argue. Maybe they believe they have a point, maybe they do, I don't really care because it's been inappropriate in the posts I have seen the hostility, so I just move on (so whatever point they are trying to make I dismiss quite quickly if it's unrelated to the post or they are rude or you know, mostly I don't care at all what others think, but they keep yapping away thinking I do) I don't got time for that.

Press Photographer attacked in So California

You are basing your entire argument on the fact they would have not done anything after he deleted the file. Can I ask how you know they would have been fine with the file being deleted? You know they would have not grabbed the camera anyway and stolen it? You have no "story" after he deletes the file because in your mind that is a happy ending, but it doesn't always work out like that.

Your whole basis for an argument is that someone committing a crime is thinking logically. Where does this happen?

One article mentioned it, the one written by the editor, but no other article mentioned a child, neither did the paper announcing the arrest. It is possible there was one, or not, and the editor thought there was one. Not sure what the deal is since they seem to conflict, and I find it odd only one article mentions a child.

On a side note, if there was a child there, then they witnessed the mother and "friends" lying, assaulting someone, vandalizing and stealing property. So let's all hope there wasn't a child there because that makes the story worse, not better. And now possibly the mother will go to jail and not even be around her kid (or at least have some type of record that may possibly effect her being hired at a job, going to school, or maybe even lose a custody battle)

Either way the lengths that people are going to even slightly justify the beating and hospitalization of another human being are making me incredibly sad.
Glad they are caught and I hope they find the 3rd person.

I am surprised no one asked what he was wearing, or said that he should not have been there to being with. What kind of satisfaction do people want? When will not be ok for people to attack another person?

I am sure some of it is because people want to hold themselves at a distant and say "it will never happen to me, I would never (fill in the blank)" but that's pure fallacy.

My hopes for a speedy recovery and these people, who committed a crime, are caught quickly.

Action How do I stop bright lights in image foreground from overexposure ???

I actually don't think you could get much better with that sun exposure, that seems pretty defined to me.

For the street lights, you could meter for the light, but then like someone mentioned, it would underexpose the rest and you have to boost in post. Or figure a meter reading that is in between the metered street light and the surrounding image by using the spot meter setting. You will still be underexposed, but not as badly. You will have some increased in noise but the lights won't be as blown out. (but I don't think your street lights are that bad either) Merging the bracketed images is the other solution.

good point, maybe the person in the thread who threatens to take a camera card might think twice about forcibly taking a card in states with conceal carry. is it worth your life? the person is assuming they will walk away with a card and slap on the wrist and a small fine, because they protected their child from a non existent threat. Maybe they won't walk away at all. I am not saying I advocate violence but if someone attacked me, how would I know they wanted my card, my camera or my body? just like they are assuming I am taking a photo because I am a pervert, I am assuming they are attacking me because they have violent mental issues and may kill me.

It's a shame really, if street photographers are saying 'perverts and child pornographers are not using dlsr or slr in public places' maybe people who disagree should listen and learn and not shut down the conversation because they feel it's not constructive. That is not a way to actually help the fight against child pornography.

I am aware this topic took an off turn, but if someone assumes that all photographers are perverts if they take a picture of a child in public, I am going to do my best to help correct this fallacy. I am not even a street photographer, but I will always defend it.
