Well said kenspo. Half the reason why I personally choose not to post on this site as often these days. Too much negativity.

This is my very first shot taken with the K1 this week in Val d'Orcia Tuscany, using the 24-70 dfa lens. I am amazed at the dynamic range, performance and ergonomics of the camera. The 24-70 especially was a surprise to me after hearing mixed reviews, the only downside being its AF performance in low light situations. I would appreciate any comments and feedback about the image. Hope you enjoy!

FOCUS METHOD IN LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
As mentioned interestingly enough in a previous post not related, what are you finding to be the most accurate and effective focus technique for shooting landscape/still photography with the K1?

I little bit off the beaten track, but not too much, just got Jun Hirakawa to join the Facebook full frame page. Can't believe it. Let's hope we can pick his brain a bit on the tamron lenses etc https://www.facebook.com/groups/171434133190290/ |

Funny enough I have been shooting with my k5 and sdm 16-50 for 6 years now and have had the lens and camera repaired in various occasions all for af issues. The lens never, ever is sharp enough for my liking. I have pretty much had it with this lens and it's gone caput again after a small (ahhhhhh). I know there are bad batch with this lens and am pretty sure mine is one.

I agree with you totally. It does make it difficult to compare as the images are the same shot, same time, same crop. But I thought it fitting to show you what you can still pull off with a K5 anyway if you are a good enough photographer. I am not saying I am the best out there, but with the right eye and technical know how it surely makes a difference.

I learnt a lot from the workshop really. I found that some basic fundamentals are essential in landscape photography (well all photography really). There at essential in camera settings that you need to apply to raw prior to shooting. These I should probably discuss in a separate topic. Within the group however there was another pentaxians who shot with a ks and a 15mm. Looking over our shots in raw up against the big bad FF of canon, Nikon and Sony, the difference in DR, resolution, noise and especially sharpness was significant. After this experience the move to FF is a must. If Pentax don't show something soon and something that is going to compare especially to the 810 of Nikon the move over to another brand is going to have to happen to me. The true landscape photographer need to keep his shots so precise all round and all the the Lightroom in the world won't change the final results if these are not respected.

I am a landscape photographer and tend to sell quite well on Uncommon designs by 350k+ independent artists | Redbubble. I generally sell large canvas prints and quite frequently post cards and calendars. I have focused on selling to a specific market (2 specific touristic spots and Melbourne city graffiti also). I would sell in the range of 5-10 prints per year, which I am quite happy with considering it is purely a hobby. Otherwise on my personal website through zenfolio you can opt to by my photos but for some reason the market doesn't arrive there. I have tried to constantly update and use frequent blogging to increase Google analytics, but have had no success. Same photo, same service, different results, go figure. Maybe people trust more on these community type websites like redbubble. Feel free to compare both for your interest MATT BISHOP PHOTOGRAPHY Matt Bishop | Redbubble |

Well, in the end I will be very satisfied with myself if I can shoot better than this photo since my last visit to Val d'orcia Tuscany: https://500px.com/photo/127887103
Considering this shot was taken when my k5 was faulty and suffered major AF issues, it was also handheld and I quickly took it as my wife was waiting for me in the car. If the workshop take us back to the same spot, I will use my tripod and liveview, use my Cokin ND grad filter and obviously have the time to make sure it's dead on perfect. If I can get away with that....which I know I can, I will have those Nikon guys wondering that's for sure. Thanks for all your feedback guys. Really positive energy.
But hey, if I don't have that perfect light, I don't get that perfect shot. Gotta remember that guys. That is photography in the end. It will make you or brake you

So in a fortnight I am off to Tuscany on a very interesting workshop in Val d'orcia Tuscany. The workshop is basically set up by an Italian Nikon ambassador and a Lightroom specialist. We are shooting 3 days of intensive sunrise, sunset and startrail landscapes. I have just found out that out of 11 group participants, 9 are all shooting with Nikon d800 and 810's and I am rocking up with my k5. Hahahah. I consider myself a very good landscape photographer with a particular eye for composition. I shoot with a fa 35 f2, sdm 16-50, and on rare occasions 55-300 when needed. I use Cokin nd grads and a manfrotto tripod and almost exclusively shoot in liveview for spot on af. So, I know I will probably get hammered by these Nikon guys with their big machine guns and I am hoping that my little k5 will shine against them when we go back for some post production, but any suggestions on how to let's say "defend myself". Funny post I know, but I thought it would be interesting to here back from you guys to see what you think. Even any technical tips to push the k5 to its limits

I am just as excited as you guys about the FF release, but at the same time I am happy that I can squeeze out all the usage possible out of my k5 and soon to be obsolete 16-50 stars. I am still taking awesome shots and am having a ball with it too. So at the end of he day, let be happy that FF will come and in the meantime let's get every last sent out of out apsc gear before it gets packed away Ina box and forgotten about

ahahah indeed I have asked for it!!!! It does get a bit tiring though you must admit when you are trying to do something constructive not just for yourself but for Others to read and you get a bit shot down. It happens a lot on these forums ---------- Post added 09-09-15 at 07:48 AM ----------
When I shoot landscapes I shoot in liveview. I find that I can pin point focus and it is far more accurate. When I dont shoot landscape i am Handheld and rely on the mirror. Sorry I am no pro, thats for sure, but I am very happy with my photography, is that a mistake to use liveview when taking landscapes? Am I missing out on something?

I don't know how it is possible that some of us can take a constructive forum thread into something so negative and cynical. It's not the first time that this happens. Comments like 'buh bye' don't help anyone here. A thread like this is supposed to be for everyone to learn not to humiliate or attack if it were so

Come on guys!!!!!! We are all getting out of control. October 6 is a rumor, that's it. It's not like Asahiman is the director of he company. They did say that there would be a FF by the end of 2015 but that's change. It happens. Nothing was official to begin with. Unfortunately they will loose a ton of sales to desperate user who need to go FF and want it now. But if there has been a delay I am sure it is because they are using new technology that has set them back. If it were a standard FF like your Nikon 750 or 810 it'd be finished now for sure. So let's presume that this is a good thing and hold on. In the meantime lets go out and take some great shots with what we have. At then end of the day, that's what it's all about....regardless of what gear you have

I personally couldn't care less about third party lenses. Half the reason I am with Pentax is because of their lenses. As long as they are not rebranded and they are 100% Pentax I will be one happy camper

Anyone remember back in the day when Pentax launched the km, the 2 spotmatic's the km and the kx together and ruled the market and every journalist out there was using the k1000? Well, I don't know about you but I just have this feeling that Pentax are going to do the same with the new FF. Let the first model come out and before long they are going to kick ass again!!!!

Well for me in this case it has. I have had the k10 and k5 and there AF performance is close to awful. If this is the case again with the FF I am gone for good. Well, you might ask why have you hung onto Pentax for so long, well because basically the more I shoot the better I get and the higher my demands become. Those demands require a full frame now and because I am a patient person and a pentaxian for 15 years i will wait and hope that the FF meets those demands, if they don't I will be buying the 810.

For the second time with my out of warranty lenses I have had to send them in for repair with various faults. On one occasion Pentax wanted to charge me 300€ For repairing a motor issue with my 55-300 lens. I found a bloke in the UK who works out of home and he fixed rhe issue for £50. He said it was a piece of plastic glass that had warped. A few weeks ago my 16-50 sdm packed it after a fall. The zoom and focus jammed. I sent it directly to the same technician in the UK and Today I got an email back from the him saying he's fixed the issue and has charge me £70 inc postage to Italy. This guy is a genius and is very very honest. I would recommend him to anyone with Pentax technical issues out of warranty. The guy's name is Alan Marlow. Anyone who needs his contact let me know

I am glad that this post has shifted slightly to AF concerns with Pentax, as it is the major problematic issue that we have with these bodies. Thanks for your input everyone with regard to it. Being a landscape photographer I do find that it is a huge issue. For obvious reasons, mainly landscape photographers shoot in low light situations (dawn or dusk) for better lighting results and due to poor lighting conditions the Pentax AF system struggles. As pointed out when using manual focus in landscape your can acquire better retults but I find that on the APSC system with such a small viewfinder and LCD it is so hard to get so accurate. The naked eye can't really fine tune that well within small detail. For me at the moment I rely on selecting my AF subject in liveview and shoot. I cannot see a better way to get better results at this stage.

I am kind of frustrated to continuously see posts where people refer to depth of field (aperture/f stop...whatever you want to call it) as different when you refer to full frame and 67% sensors. i.e f2.8 on full frame and F4 on 67%. I was always under the impression that sensors have nothing to do with it. Sensors just project off what they see. Isn't f stop indifferent. Doesn't the lens solely account for f stop. Please pentaxians. Let's discuss this issue and close it to avoid future confusion.
