Price for stock photo

Very interesting article indeed. Still very complex to fathom. Basically depends on their budget for the campaign really. We are talking global here, the size of north face, so I'd imagine their budget is not small

The photo will be used on a global scale for a new campaign , as posters in shops and for internet use. They won't have full rights of the photo but I will give them he liberty to use as needed

I have been approached for a photo of mine from the Italian Dolomites by a large global mountaineer company who wish to purchase the photo for use on a new product campaign they are about to release. I have had large success in selling my prints online but never stock photo's. they have asked me how much do they have to pay me for the photo. Does anyone have an idea on what I should charge? Any help greatly appreciate.

Kase filters??? Anyone used them?

Yes it is made in china. But what isn't these days. The brand is run from the Netherlands if i understand correctly. The holder itself is very unique and seems very versatile, especially with the polarizers. Their filters are made from
Schott glass so I imagine the quality should be quite good

I reliable source has put me onto the Kase filter system for the Pentax 15-30 system. There are quite a few systems out there that look quite good, I.e Haida, Benro and wanderpana, put they just aren't perfect. This kase system to me looks excellent. Allows for mounting without removing lens, CPL is threaded on simply, and they use resistant Schott glass. Anyone had any experience? The reviews out there are very scarce

Stock proposal

I have decided with the client to not give them my RAW as the image as is in jpeg has been pretayled by me the way I think it should be shown. I just don't want to get pushy with them too much as it is an excellent opportunity for me, seeing the company is on such a large global scale. Loyalities for stock? They haven't brought that up yet. I I have done is them them a low resolution image to see if it sits in with there needs.

For those who are interested anyway, this is the image proposed:

Ok, great feedback. Thank you very much. At the moment they have ask for 2 jpeg images to put forward as a prototype let's say, then they want me to send others from the same angle in different lighting as raw images if possible (which I am not too comfortable with. Although this company is a world renowned hiking brand that you think you should trust. Still they haven't discussed in any way royalities

Sorry about the non related Pentax question, but I would really appreciate the help. I have been in contact with a well known mountaneering company that want to use a photo of mine for a publicity campaign. I have been selling prints for years now but have never sold stock. The company wants me to give them a stock proposal before we go ahead with the collaboration. I am assuming the want me to lay down some conditions for the image and pricing? Any ideas on what I should tell them roughly? They are awaiting my reply and have no idea and what to tell them. Cheers guys!!!!!

After a recent poll I performed based on 100 Pentax k1 users 57% users voted the dfa 15-30 as their preferred UWA lens, while 27% voted the irix 15mm. Other votes insignificant to mention. Hope that this info is useful in your choice of lens.

Your right about that. Having said that the older 2 zooms are hard to find and expensive. Maybe a cheap priced irix may be the way to go until Pentax releases a new prime

It would indeed. I am afraid I can't fill you in on that. I do know however that my fa 35 f2 (that has been checked) is quite soft at all apertures compared to my dfa 24-70 @ 35mm, but this is just one example.

Thanks a tone for your feedback. It sounds like we are on the same path. The distagon 21 are almost impossible to find and when they are around cost a fortune. For my thoughts the M20 f4 used are around 400€. I'd say it this stage to go for samyang 20mm or even the irix at 15mm which are new and optically built for modern sensors wouldn't you say?

Both kindly thank you for your feedback. Since I have a 35mm prime and a 50mm I could probably sell my 24-70 and do with the 15-30, that's for sure.

So, I am a heavy k1 user for landscapes primarily using the dfa 24-70 and older lenses, but lack a 15-20 range sooo much. I have holded off on buying the 15-30 as it is expensive, bulky and I am primarily a screw on filter user. I have been in contact with Ricoh and in response to providing a wide angle prime they have just answered "refer to the lens road map". Not knowing what to do, would users consider that I hold off a bit longer to see whether Ricoh comes up with a wide prime soon or go for an irix 15mm or samyang 20mm. The wait is painful and patient are raining thin, as is with others too I am sure

I myself, as a landscape photographer am holding off. I ha e the 24-70 dfa and apart from the very expansive 15-30 am quite dissatisfied with the primes on offer to date. I believe that Pentax will release a nice wide prime this year. Somewhere between 15 and 20mm and fast. Until they release one, I won't settle for old glass on new sensors and won't go for a third party. I am a pentaxian and only want their glass. Wait for October guys. We will get a surprise

Yes, all screws removed, and not even multi grips will remove it. In the meantime trying to force it I have busted the base Mount so, forced to by a new head now. Thats what happens when you dont remove your head after 15 years.

interesting point there. I have a K1 with a 24-70 lens and other primes, and havent had a problem as yet, however will be purchasing the 15-30 soon which is a bit heavier so maybe a better support such as the MHXPRO-3W may be better

Sorry guys, not a very Pentax related question, but still within photography whelms... just purchased a new tripod, the manfrotto MT055XB and my old tripod head has fused onto my old tripod, so I have to get a new head. Can't get my head around the measurement for attachments though. The tripod has a center column via a 3/8" mounting screw and the new head I want is a 460MG with a top attachment 1/4" screw???? Anyone out there know if they are adaptable? Cheers

ND Graduated Filter

I have been shooting for 15 years now and have always used filters. I can safely say that within the last few years with dynamic range sensitivity the need for graduated filters isn't essential. Actually the more you stick in for the of your lens the worse the quality will be. What you can't live without is a very very good quality polarizer and a 6-10 stop screw on density (non graduated) for slowing down shutter speed when required. Again buy only the best and if you can't afford it, you better off using nothing. Low quality filter will only degrade you Photography....trust me. For me the best brand without a doubt is Breakthough Photography. They are super neutral and have no effect on sharpness at all. They are expensive but are worth every cent. Tell them i recommended you if you happen to buy from them. They are only a small company but their results are amazing

Using IR remote on the k1

Hi everyone, sorry for the question but I'll be damned if I can resolve the question on my own. My cable release for my k1 just broke. For precision timing purposes and to minimize shake I have always used mirror up. I am trying to decide whether to go wireless or not, so the q is, if if I go IR can I still select the mirror up function. I am aware that in timer mode it is enabled, however my timing for wave shots especially is very important, so mirror up is a must. Any help, greatly appreciated

For professionals then I think a 20mm prime should have been a high priority rather than the 50mm. You have to consider that the k1 users are in a high number landscape users. But hey, that's my opinion. I could be wrong. It could well be that they are already making a wide prime and it is gonna be that good that it just needs a bit more time to perfect.... like the k1 did
