All the above included will cost me about $165, excluding the speed light (I already have one) and exuding the remote triggers (I want to use PC sync becuase i'm using this for a Mamiya RB67 and Pentax Super Program, and because it's cheaper)
Ok, i'm make sure the supporting structure of the Umbrella is of good quality.
Thanks to all three of you!
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi, I was wondering do I have all the equipment needed to have a basic off camera flash set up? I'm on a budget and what to get the costs down packed so I'm prepared. It is $300 max
As of right now, I have in mind.
60" white shoot through Umbrella.
40" silver or white reflector
Cable shutter release
Pc sync cord
two light stands, (one for reflector and one for Umbrella)
6ft tripod
As for the umbrella, what items do I need to mount the umbrella to the light stand, and then mount the flash behind the umbrella.
I'm guessing a boom shaft, and umbrella mount is all I need correct?
If I'm missing anything, let me know!

I'd say just use a graduated ND filter with a softer transition. That's it.

Thanks again everyone.
I'll check out all of the programs mentioned above and see which one works best for me.
I just ordered the Pentax cleaning kit. Glad you looked out for me.

I tried in camera HDR, did not like it all honestly.
I'll use the grad filters next time.
I set the camera to landscape and up'd the saturation.
that was it.
I'm not sure because it's my brother laptop.
My sunset photos are in, unedited.
You guys are right. Once the sun goes down, everyone leaves, I stayed behind and it was worth it.
In order to get an actual shot of the sun, i'll definitely need a grad filter. Sunset, Huntington Park Newport News by Rigor and Strife, on Flickr GOLD Sunset, Huntington Park Newport News by Rigor and Strife, on Flickr

Well, I'll check out the specs and see what post processing software I can use.
Thanks for the answers.

My computer can not handle post processing software. It seems I'm at a massive disadvantage for the photo competition i'm entering.

I don't have the capability for any type of post processing. I'm doing landscape, specifically sunsets.Does in camera HDR have the ability to pull off nice images? Or am I better off with graduated ND filters?

I read each and every one of your replies, all of them being extremely helpful.
I'm going to take each and every one of them to heart in order to improve my skills.
I'll update this thread with some before and after shots.
Thanks a lot! ---------- Post added 03-17-15 at 11:14 PM ---------- Oh the problem is that i keep getting harsh shadows on my subjects face.
When I bounced the flash off the wall and ceiling, it looked pretty good. But with the Large Flashbender attached, I was not satisfied.

I would like to know specifically which inanimate object or still life subject would be best to develop flash photography skills. As of now, I have a Pentax K50, YN-560, and a rouge flashbender. I've tested on my brother and objects around home, but results were not good at all. Any ideas or tips?
UPDATE:
Pics are in.
My method was ceiling bouce, the settings where ISO 400, and F2.0 - f2.4, flash power was 1/64.
My first shot wasn't planned out, it just happended. Overexposed.
So I had a chance to tweek the flash power and here is the final result.
Any way to improve?

Thank you.
I really don't want to spend money on a meter, or a metered prism for the Bronica.
It should fine for my application, mostly still life and some portrait work in the future.

I just recently purchased a Bronica ETRS, and it has a non metered prism. With that said will, my Pentax K1000 work sufficiently as a stand alone meter for a medium format camera?

These are far better than my first post (page 189).
Photos taken by a Pentax K1000, Super Takumar f1.4 (Super Multi Coated) and Velvia 100. No post processing, straight from the scanner. |

I used Fuji Superia 800 for these shots and Pentax K1000 with factory lens.
I'm moving to a better lens (Asahi Super Multi Coated f1.4 M42) and film (Fuji Velvia 100 and Kodak Ektar).
Well see what happens, I might compare them.
