Despite my slow 3 fps and slow buffer on. Pentax K1, it was a mix of luck, speed and karma credits that I snapped this photo from a long distance… couldn’t be more amazed by the timing of it !

Sometimes swapping primes doesn't make a lot of sense; here is @28mm, 40mm and 88mm.
I bounced on camera flash off the ceiling using P-TTL, with varying results; fortunately some graduated radial brightening in post processing came to the rescue. Trying to take pictures of the two little girls with a complicated lighting setup would have been a disaster, better to try to keep things casual and impromptu.

I can imagine, we were up there in early January and at -20 degrees with a bit of wind, it felt like -29.

Rainy day make for interesting colors and light down under the forest canopy.
Here are incense cedars growing up under a Ponderosa pine over-story.
The pines have suffered from some bark beetles in the earlier drought and their leaves have turned brown.
The beetles didn't bother the cedar trees.
Rain makes the air hazy, but it also enriches the greens and browns.

The temp went down to -40 and it was still -30ºC when I took the images. Usually these structures are lost in the afternoon. It was so cold we kept everything from yesterday and filled in quite bit more interesting detail.

I am so stoked by this cheapy 70mm (bought it for $185), I bought a cheapy 40mm pancake for almost the same price ($160), used just a handful of times.
I know I could have spent another 50-100 for a more heavily used FA 43mm but I hear and saw the optics are fantastic, and will serve me better for general walk around, city shots.
For anyone that cares, I had to sell my K-1, FA 77mm, Tamron 90mm macro, etc in 2020 due to COVID layoffs. I was heartbroken and haven't done photography since.
I am in a much better place now, and found a very gently/barely used K-70 for three hundred bucks. Basically half off for a barely used body and decided to pull the trigger as I really miss this hobby. Had to decide what len's to get...had a 50mm 1.8 that it came with and had an issue with it, figured out it was the lens, and ordered the 70mm.
Now the 40mm.
Perhaps one day I will own the FA Limiteds (and tbh that Tamron 90mm did some real macro magic) again, but I am very, very impressed but this pancake club.
