A friend and I did the Panama Canal in 1997 on the Regal Princess. You will have a great time. In those days I was still carrying my Super Program with a 35-70 f4 and it was not as fast as I would have liked on the several Semi-Submersibles I have been on. The 50 f1.4 is definitely the right choice for a lens. I also agree with the idea of a flexible lens hood to let you be right up against the glass porthole. To expand on CycloneBandDad's flexible hood idea I have a rubber hood made by Hama that telescopes out or collapses (good for travel) as needed and might be ideal for shooting up against glass.
Enjoy your trip!

Wow, I'm not sure how I missed this thread before. I was there 14 years ago and took a lot of photos too. I seem to remember far more people than I see in your shots and it being very difficult to get pics without masses of people everywhere. In any case you took some great shots!

I was digging through some photos and found the shots from the very first roll of film I ran through my PZ-1P in August of 2000. These are no more than just quick snaps to see if the camera actually worked. I think that these are the first images I have uploaded to this site.
Both of these cats were adopted from the local animal shelter a couple of months prior to these pictures.
The first one is Nitro, he was helping me unpack and set up the camera. The second is Tubbs, he was supervising from the floor. Attachment 20579 Attachment 20580 |

I don't think that any of this LBA stuff really exists. Let's see, in the last 3 1/2 weeks I have only aquired a DA* 16-50 f2.8 and a DA* 50-135 f2.8 and a K20D and 4 B+W filters for the two lenses and tamrac bag. Nope, no LBA here. I can stop any time I want. Really I can.

I have changed my mind:
On the k20d it's better but not good enough. National Camera Exchange graciously exchanged 9022145 for another one 9013510
9013510 on the k20d definite CA problems with high contrast edges. Don't you just love purple fringes. I snapped a couple of shots inside the store and both the sales person and I thought overall focus was better, exposure issues seemed better so ok we swapped lenses. Walk outside to the car, it was cloudy gray day, snapped a couple of shots of trees in their yard and one of those shots included a corner of the building. I get back to my hotel and copy the images from the camera to the laptop and what do I immediately see? Purple fringes on the corner of the building. I must check to make sure the building doesn't actually have purple fringes when I return this lens.

Hello everyone,
I may be new to these forums but not new to Pentax cameras. My love affair with Pentax cameras started in the early to mid 70's while I was in high school. My dad purchased a Spotmatic F. I am sure that I have taken far more photos with that camera than he has.
Once I got my first job after collage my first major purchase was a camera. That purchase was a Pentax Super Program. I still have the super program, I can't imagine ever parting with it.
I finally bought a small pentax to carry in 1998, it is a IQ Zoom 140. It hasn't snapped a picture in quite a few years.
In 2000 I decided that it was time for the Super Program to enter retirement (I mostly wanted auto focus due to eyes that don't focus as quickly or as well as they once did) and bought a PZ-1P. The PZ-1P and I have been many places in many parts of the world together and it has had many hundreds of rolls of film through it.
I fought the switch to digital for a long time. I purchased a Nikon 880 in 2001. A decent camera And in 2003 I finally gave in to modern ways in 2003 and bought a Nikon 5700. I have taken some nice photos with the 5700, but after carrying film SLRs for decades the 5700 just wasn't enough and developed an almost hatred of the camera and it's limitations. The Nikon 5700 died in March of 2007.
In March of 2007 I bought a K10D. It has been great to be back into a SLR. In short the K10D has been a wonderful camera and I like it a lot.
I just added a Pentax A40 to my collection of cameras. I plan on it being the camera that travels with me on business trips or gets carried around in the car with me, just in case a random photo op happens along.
Sorry for the long history lesson.
