For good or bad, my table rarely sees books anymore. Over 95% of my book reading consists of ebooks on my tablet. I look at is a plus because my books are always with me (I can view them on my tablet or phone if need be), and they aren't near as heavy to carry all them around. :D
Most recent one is on the gem collection at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, spurred by a visit last week of that wondrous place. I've also taken up listening to books during travel or morning work outs. My most recent of that type was a Harry Bosch novel read by the actor who played Harry in the TV series, Titus Welliver. Great book!

Just split payments. For example, if I'm buying your $1200 lens, I could make 3 payments of $400, or one $300, one $400 and one $500. More devious? One via Paypal, one via Zelle and one via venmo. And don't forget money orders or even personal checks for trusted persons! Of course there's also Bitcoin.
Cats can be skinned in various manners!

The ad says it's on back order. Curious - didn't your lens come with a tripod mount?
EDIT: Oops, missed the "have a spare" comment.

I was fortunate enough to see a truck that a prison inmate had built in similar fashion, again, all out of paper. In this case, it was about 2 feet long, maybe 7 or 8 inches tall, and unlike the plane, painted. It was an amazing work of art, but lacked all the working details this plane has.

In the states, home owner's insurance will normally cover these kinds of losses, but of course you'll be out the deductible.

My first home computer was an Atari 400. I couldn't stand the keyboard and took it back to the store and traded it in on an Atari 800. Disk drives weren't around then and I had to use cassette tapes for storage. IIRC, the first disk drives for them held 90kb and were single side only. How things have changed!
My current desktop has 6 drives. Two are SSD, the boot 1TB and the primary picture storage 2TB. The four drives total 25TB and are used for programs, video, music and backup - lots of back up!

Wow - one grave out of 40,000 being relocated!? Luckily the marker on his coffin was made of lead and thus survived. Truly remarkable!

It's unfortunate, but the delivery came during the annual week long celebration of the Michigan / Ohio border dispute (some call it a war) dealing with which state would take Toledo. Ohio obviously lost, and Michiganders, including those on Uncle Sam's pay roll stay drunk in celebration for that week and thus no work gets done.
Order earlier next year. :p

LOL. We bought several 100 (yes over 300 as I recall) for a GM/UAW joint project years ago and over 90% had issues. The issue? WD used the wrong lubricant in the drive mechanism and when the drive sat parked for a period of a week or more, it would not boot up. One of our frustrated techs found a crass but effective solution - pick the computer up about 1/2 inch and drop it. It worked nearly every single time. The only other HD I had a failure on was an old Maxell.
Yeah, you can have all the WD's you want. In fact I have a couple 1Tb paperweights sitting here near my desk with burned out control boards, and WD can't (or won't) replace the boards. Yes, they gave me replacement drives, but that did nothing to get the data and programs back - something that could have been done with a new control board. You can even see the heat marks on the boards. If I hadn't been using back ups, I would have lost every document and picture I had. Some day I'll take them apart to retrieve the rare earth magnets from them, as that's all they are good for now. A data retrieval company offered to retrieve the data for $500 a drive. For that kind of money, I reloaded and re-download everything on new drives. At the least, WD could have offered to image the old drives on to the new ones. If a third party could access the drives, I'm pretty sure the manufacturer should have been able to, but no, they were of no help.

After having 3 WD's physically die on me, I've learned my lesson and will never own another one of their products.
