You've inadvertently selected your focus sensors to be other than default. I do this all the time by accident, but I can never remember how to do it when I want to do it on purpose.

Standing around waiting for the ferry. I had a great opportunity to capture some images of birds hanging around.

Sorry, it is not. ---------- Post added 2016-11-19 at 10:41 PM ---------- This is not the L version, it has a metal coupling.
This is not the newer WR version.
But it is a really good lens.

DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED Asking Price
125.00 USD Item Location

I was the original owner of this lens, will include the original receipt.
There are 8,243 photos in my collection that I have taken with this lens, it's been a real workhorse. I have decided to upgrade to the PLM WR version
I take very good care of my equipment so the lens is clean and free from anything more than a minor wear mark or blemish, I typically leave a UV filter on it so the front element has rarely been exposed. I have the original packaging, lens bag and shade. The rear cap is the original, the front cap is a replacement.
Price includes shipping to anywhere in CONUS to PayPal verified address only, If you're interested in shipping outside CONUS, let me know and I'll look into the cost. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Thanks everybody for the response. I decided to go with the PLM version of the lens and I'm looking forward to putting it though it's paces.

I have plain DA version of this lens now and I would agree with this to a certain extent. It happens less in good light, but I often find myself waiting for the lens to hunt through the entire range to return almost to where it started, although wouldn't that be more a function of the logic in the body than the lens?

The only thing really holding me back is I find myself shooting in low light situations a lot so I'm a little worried that 1/2 stop loss will be significant, although with the low light capabilities of the K-3II being what they are maybe I'm over analyzing.

I am about to embark on a 11 day trip to Costa Rica which will included significant time at both a seaside/beach location and up in the forest. I want to travel light with two lenses, so I'm planning on just bringing my K-3II body, a DA* 16-50 and a 55-300. I am staying in "off the beaten path" locations that are not large resorts, so I am anticipating lots of great wildlife and nature photography opportunities.
I would like to replace my current DA 55-300 for a weather resistant version of this lens because of the humidity and the varied environments I will be in. I am torn between getting the PLM version which seems more compact, has better close focus and is quieter, and the non-PLM screw drive which is faster. I'm not sure if that half stop will be worth it or not.
Anybody with any experience on the pros or the cons of these two lenses in direct comparison to each other would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I suppose I should mention the $50 price difference is irrelevant to me.

Well, I left it sit one night with the GPS off and two nights with the GPS on and the battery is at 3 bars still. When I want it to drain it is not doing it.
Here is another thought I will try. If I turn the power switch off, the battery does not drain, but maybe if I leave it on and let it go to standby, that will be when it happens.

I've been noticing this myself. I could leave my K-5 on the shelf for weeks and the battery never seemed to drain, while if my K-3II sits for a couple of days with the switch off the battery is completely drained. I am going to experiment a little with the settings to see if it has something to do with the GPS being on.
I had hoped my 600th post was a little more interesting, but I got tired of waiting for a decent shot :p

This camera is in great shape aside from the LCD issue. I see that a k-5 in similar condition without the LCD problem has been recently listed for $285 plus shipping, so I may have been a little aggressive in my pricing. $265 including shipping to CONUS is a better relative price point given the defect.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Pentax K-5 Body Asking Price 300.00 USD $$265.00 US -includes shipping via USPS Priority Mail to CONUS Item Location
Buffalo, NY (United States) Item Description
This is a well cared for K-5 that I am selling because I have purchased a K-3II. It has no noticeable marks or wear, the screens are pristine having been covered by protectors. The shutter has been actuated just shy of 20,000 times.
This particular camera was a replacement for a one with the old sensor stain issue (this one has a clean sensor), so I have two sets of accessories, so the ones I am including will be brand new as shown in the pics. This will create the unboxing experience of a brand new camera.
There is a small defect in that the top LCD does not fully display, I however did not find this to be a bother as all settings can be seen in the viewfinder. Sometimes it would come on fully when it warms up or if I press on the rear dial just so. I have included pictures.
Free shipping via USPS priority mail to Continental US. Actual shipping cost to Other locations. PayPal only. If you are local to Buffalo, NY we can arrange for pickup and I'll buy you a cup of coffee.
I have a Tamron 28-80 f3.5-5.6 AF that I will throw in for $25 (again, shipping included) if the interested party really wants a lens with the body.
Make a reasonable offer. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

I am very excited as I sit here and wait for my new K-3ii to arrive tomorrow. I ultimately decided to go with the 3ii because as I look back over the last 5 years I owned my K-5 I have tried to take shots of the moon and sky about 5-6 times a year, and I think I've used the onboard flash twice. I am very much an available light photographer and I just don't use the flash much. I am far more likely to crank up the iso than flip up the flash if the lighting is a little low.
Now that that trade-off is decided, I think I like the slightly better SR, AF and then I'll also be able to experiment with the pixel-shift.

I completely surprised myself with a negative scanner. All that film shot with my K1000 is coming back to life.

My preference is the non-HDR image. I think the dynamic range of the original image is not large enough to allow HDR to provide any benefit other than making it look fake. The original image tells a great story, the HDR image looks like some black light poster I buy at Spencer's.

As a seller, my experience is that if I price an item all in, meaning the price includes shipping, Paypal fees and all incidentals, I get more interest from potential buyers. If I want to net $125 for something I just set the price at $135. If it ends up being $124.75 because the Paypal fee is a little higher than I anticipated, then whatever.

then they can do whatever they want. Adam is talking about soliciting the use of the gift option. if 2 people know each other, then do whatever you want. Just don't solicit the use of Pay Pal gift option.
EDIT: I should also add that my comment is about staying in compliance with forum rules, there is still the issue of the Paypal TOS.

I must confess that this is the best out of about 20 exposures. Pentax SR is good, but not that good.
