I couldn't sell her! I'm just too attached to the poor thing! I must take her out more now that I decided to keep her.

I feel as if Pentax abandoned all of us K200D adopters. No firmware updates and a teeny product lifetime. You haven't been able to buy the K200D new for months now. I feel like I bought a product expecting support and updates and instead Pentax just dumped us.
I am currently selling, what I feel is my outdated K200D in favor of another system from another manufacturer who may give us the support we deserve.
Anyone else feel this way about their K200D?

Thanks guys! I know those shots have been done a thousand times before but I still feel great about them! Can't wait to get out to Miami International Airport and snap some shots of planes, and then there's the Air and Sea Show in 2010, can't wait for that.

Here are a few of my best shots! All of these were shot with the DA 55-300mm throughout my 3-day trip in Captiva Island, Florida. I must say that I am EXTREMELY impressed with the capabilities of this lens. It's sharp, it's got great contrast, and it has amazing reach. For $350 this lens is a great value, I'd venture to say that this lens rivals more expensive lenses in the $600-$800 range minus the fast speed. I can't wait to go out and shoot some airplanes and other stuff here around Miami.
Enjoy! |

I have a DCR-250 and it works quite well attached to my DA 18-55 II lens, although the the latter mentioned lens does not have the zoom needed to really produce stunning macros. I'm sure if I had a longer lens it would work a lot better with the DCR-250. |

Hmm, I guess I'll push for the 55-300mm then...let's see how much I can sell my old laptop on eBay for.
Thanks for the all the advice, I'd definitely be willing to put up $350 for the 55-300 if it's going to be a good improvement over any of the <$200 Sigma's and Tammy's.

I've had my K200D for over a year now and feel that I am ready to invest in a telephoto lens for plane spotting and other uses. I'm a bit lost and there seem to be so many options out there like the Pentax DA 50-200 and 55-300 as well as alternatives from Sigma and Tamron. My budget is about $250 but not yet set in stone, obviously I'm not going to get a fast lens for that price but I do want something decent.
The 50-200 is $180 but I feel like it might be a bit short, thee 55-300 looks a bit more reasonable but is quite a bit more expensive. Any suggestions?

I prefer natural, since right now I am predominantly shooting JPEG's I shoot with the natural image tone, that way I can tweak the JPEG's in CS3 to my liking knowing that they have not been over processed in camera like bright mode sometimes does.
P.S. I'll get around to shoot RAW someday, once I figure out a reasonable workflow.

Well SDM is an improvement over screw drive systems and it's something relatively new that Pentax has implemented.
Anyways you can always get the Sigma 17-70.
SDM is the way to go, Pentax also stated in an FAQ that all DA* lenses will have a screw drive mechanism in addition to SDM.
Pentax said that it would not have been worth it to add both SDM and screw drive to the DA 17-70mm.

Hehe, I made that mistake a year ago by buying a Fujifilm S9600, it was a good camera, but I outgrew it very quickly.
Actually, good thing that I got it because if not I would have had a K100D right now instead of a K200D.

Have a look at the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 or you can wait around for the Pentax 17-70mm f/4.

Basically, I apply all filters digitally except a UV filter which I have on my lenses for protection.
Especially warming or cooling filters, they are easily applied in PS.

If they've copied the image and hosted it on their site then there is not much that you can do.

I ordered my K200D directly from Amazon about two weeks ago and even though the AL II lens is not specified in the product description, I did in fact receive the AL II lens.
You can be assured that if you order directly from Amazon that you will get the AL II lens.
I asked the same question before ordering mine and received the same answer that if you order directly from Amazon you will get the AL II lens.

So I did a brief video tour of the features and functions found in the K200D. I know the video has some bugs and I'm not a very good tour guide in some cases but I hope this helps potential DSLR buyers in making their buying decision. YouTube - Pentax K200D Video Tour |
