What about the F 24-50? Small, unobtrusive. Same length as the DA 35 ltd with the hood extended.

I was thinking the DOF would be a big help there. Do you bother doing macro with your K3 or K1 after using the Q?

I really like your images. Thank you for sharing. Thank you also for explaining some of how you do things. Yeah I've tried my hand at macro on the F100, DA 35 ltd, etc on the K1 and k3. I've tried extension tubes as well. Perhaps my technique is bad, but I recall getting more keepers with an old point and shoot because of the DOF . IT doesn't seem to matter even when I use F32. Perhaps I need to learn to focus stack, but with moving things thats nor really an option. Even berries in a breeze proves challenging.

Lol this forum is full of evil temptresses.. yes no tempters.. temptresses. Lenses are shes and all those who push them on others are temptresses.
I love the 35 ltd. I wish so much that itd work on FF. I haven't been able to part with it. Mind sharing an image of your setup? I've used the 35 for scanning film once and just had the negative taped to a window. I have a box of slides I need to get to work on and need some inexpensive ideas.

Its about setting a bar.. a potential to reach towards, whilst being compassionate for current shortcomings. That's the recipe for growth.
The K1 is that bar, that potential. As is any gear set combined with its user's passion to learn and creativity.

I haven't participated in a long time. This isn't the best shot I looked through, but I get a kick out of it everytime I see it. My dog makes me laugh and thats good enough for me. Tucker is such a hoot.

I have one similar. I brought it to a butterfly conservatory and enjoyed using it on a 560 IV in one hand and a camera + TX in the other. Got a little heavy at times. It helped me get shots I couldn't have in the lighting available. I also have a largr collapsible ringlight/softbox/"beauty dish" where you can shoot through the middle that I use for portraits and the like as well. It folds flat which is nice for travel. I'm not a pro and haven't compared it to real beauty dishes with high end strobes. I've often used it on its own or as a hair light.

I shot my first wedding in January. I had the same issues of very low light. We weren't allowed flashes in the church and the couple were so scattered they didnt' stick around for photos. Most of what we got was at the reception using a Westcott Orb with Yongnuo IV and TX. The low light stuff was a nearly impossible balance of desperately trying to bring down ISO even at F4 1/50 I was going in the ISO 4000+ range. Add on subject movement and man... Oh and no one except the daughter had any awareness about smiling nicely. I attribute that to her being in her early twenties and a product of the selfie generation. She always looked great. The times the bride smiled you kind of wished she didn't... and the brides' mother... ouch.
Anyways, I can certainly appreciate your struggle. I wish I had more opportunities. I was technically the second at this wedding but had more knowledge, more confidence, and technically better gear. I'm hoping to go K1 eventually for the low light issue. I'm not a fan of ISO 3200 or even 1600 really on my K3. Though I might decide otherwise if I ever printed anything.
For web, I believe if you research what sizes each platform compresses / resizes images to, you can use lightroom to do the resizing. I believe it does a better job. At least you have more control. Other options I've used for showing people images before giving them any are Adobe CC's public collection (if they have the direct link), Google drive shared folder (read only?), and one I have but haven't tested is format.com's client proofing. I also use LR plugins for Facebook and Format.com for direct uploading. I haven't compared this automated method vs the manual export and upload method.
Not sure if any of this helps, but I wish you well on your next four weddings. If you were close, I'd ask to jump in as your second!

I agree with Brooke Meyer. I use 4 YN 560IV's. If yo uuse regular AA alkalines, they will fail quickly. Thats true for the FGZ 360 as well. If you use Eneloops, Amazon Basics, or any reputable rechargeable, you'll get a lot of life out of them for each use. Its night and day. I had this same problem.

Thanks for the follow up. So generally speaking spec ops photo ninja is the way to go. :)
I've been out shooting and I think my mitts were the weak link. I found it hard to function. Didn't help when my fingers were sticking to the tripod and I didn't have the dexterity to operate the knobs to adjust it.

I've seen his images of the 10-20 on the K1 in a few places on the net.. instantly recognizable and of high quality. I'd love to see more though or at least read about his and others impressions in more depth.

Hello everyone.
This past July, I was on a 1000 Island boat tour near Kingston, ON. We go nearly every summer. I had brought the DA* 55 that I had recently bought used. I was so excited. It been on my list for quite awhile.
Anyways, I was attempting to shoot my sister... but was using the Sigma 100-300 F4 or a DA ltd at the time. I switched to the 55 and suddenly it wouldn't focus anymore.. Being visually impaired, manual focus really isn't much of an option for me. My heart sunk. I couldn't afford to ship the lens off when it probably would cost the same as the lens itself (used). This feelign was heightened by several other recent events that I responded to by feeling taken advantage of. It had cost me.
I put he 55 in my bag and mostly avoided it for a few months. Everyonce and awhile I'd take it out and see if somethign had spontaneously changed.... no such luck. In October, I put on my thick reading glasses and had a look at it. I didnt' think it was an SDM failure. I hadn't heard any noises or noticed any sluggishness before failure. Whats this? A metal contact is bent! I pushed it back down and mounted it on the camera... To my delight, the lens focused just fine! The next day when changing lenses, the contact snapped off entirely... I went through the same string of emotions. A few weeks later I noticed a thread about a 150-450 with perhaps a related issue. This got me thinking, maybe I can find a way to fix this myself. I considered attempting solder, gluing tinfoil.. anything to bridge the electrical gap. I then put a request on the forum for old broken SDM contacts (thinking of the 16-50's, 50-135's). It was mentioend to me that maybe an old Power Zoom contact might fit the bill. DCShooter graciously mailed me one and though it didn't fit perfectly, it works. I am so relieved. Here are some photos of what I had to do. Man these screws are bloody tiny. Nearly the size of braille dots and I can't read braille dots lol. At first I thought I'd transplant one of the contacts, but found it difficult to remove the module from the lens and the contacts themselves. I then simply transplanted the whole unit with a bit of cutting of the PZ contacts, it fit--albeit a bit snugly.
I feel great aprpeciation for DCShooter and for the part and thoughtfulness. It cost me $3 CAD.. I imagine it could have been $300 to send it off somewhere.

Wow what an interesting thread. It sure has stirred up a lot of passion. I enjoyed reading this one quite a bit. I had a lot to say, but much has been said already.
I too have often questioned the purpose of the pursuit of photography. It can feel trivial. I think the purpose of anything we choose to do comes down to connectedness. Photography in itself is a great venue for slowing down, getting to know yourself and how you think and see. Its an extraordinary tool for connecting with nature by forcing us to study her and spend countless hours admiring her. It teaches us to see beauty in all people in all kinds of pass times and pursuits. It allows us to share a part of ourselves and can bridge the gap between us and those we happen to come into contact with--even for a 1/100th of a second on a street across the world.
Art has changed. Everyone takes photos. Go on trips to enjoy yourself. Sometimes bring your camera. Other times leave it at home and imagine shots. If you want it to be business in addition to pleasure, thats great. Make sure (as in any business) know and play into the market. Every person you meet is part of networking.
Being visually impaired, I really struggled with the opposite--not having the freedom to travel, even in my own city or its surroundings. One of the best things I learned even before i had a DSLR was to challenge yourself to find great images in your city, in your neighborhood, and even on your street.
Even if you sell your camera gear, spend every moment aware of yourself and your interactions with the human and natural patterns all around you. Savour it.
You caught me in a mood. But connection is what we all want most. That's why we have pets and surround ourselves with relationships no matter how hollow we let them get.
