Nice to see you haven't abused the privelage of having HDR. Some people trash great photos by using HDR.
You have an amazing eye and great HDR technique keep it up.

If the lens is that bad it is a bad copy and needs to be replaced. He shouldn't have to "put up with it".

Nice images! I have also been looking at the 24-70mm f2.8 (non-macro) and that actually looks good too.

I love the weather sealed body of the Pnetax K20D. Everything is sturdy and well designed.
ALL Pentax have to do to be on par with Canon is have the same range of quality lenses.

This lens is renowned throughout the land as being either REALLY good or REALLY bad. You may just have a bad copy.

Is it possible to get a different lens hood for the 24-70 macro to help with the flare issues?
Rarely would I be shooting directly into the sunlight anyways.

Ok its a showdown between these two lenses with the winner to be purchased this weekend.
Things I like about each.....
24-60mm : This lens has GREAT reviews from users. Extremely sharp and contrasty. Excellent price, and a nice big 77mm diameter to get lots of light in there. I have also read this lens basically has no issues with vignetting.
24-70mm Macro: Around $200 more than the 24-60 BUT has the macro feature, although I generally don't do alot of macro work. Dual focus system.
Can you guys please give me your thoughts and experiences with these two. I would love to hear from owners of these lenses and what their experiences are.
Many Thanks.

I always laugh when I see people being told what a histogram is supposed to look like. Every different scene has an entirely different histogram. The only thing that should be "right" is your exposure. Get your exposure right and forget trying to get some mid-peaking histogram that some smarmy photographer says you should be getting.

Taking many photos to get just one good one is acceptable and it isn't. There are many schools of thought.
Truistically a good photographer knows his equipment and knows his subject so being trigger happy probably isn't really considered "professional" as such.
But in todays modern world where digital images are basically free to take, the old school tyles have been thrown out the window in favour of a snap happy type of mindset which I don't altogether agree with.
Look how many people on this forum and other forums go and buy a DSLR and then all of a sudden pop up as "Joe Bloggs Photography" the next day, without having even studied photography or its history and don;t even know many of the basics and post some amazingly horrid images with dreadful (or no) post processing.
Owning a camera capable of producing professional quality images doesn't automatically mean you are a professional photographer, although some may wish to dream they are.
Sorry but reading some online tutorials and buying a DSLR doesn't turn an enthusiast into a pro.
Ok rant is now over.

I have a file library of External drives, 2 so far both 250GB each.
My latest external drive is 500GB and will take a while to become full but once they are done they are stored in a Safe with silica gel packs to stop any long term moisture damage to the hard drives.
If I ever need an image it's as simple as plugging the drive in.

I also got sharper results on my K100D than I do on the K20D. The problem is the resolution is 2.5 x so no matter what at 100% it is going to be softer in most cases.

The benefit of an f/2.8 lens is that if you want to stop it down to sharpen it up, you can go to f/4. If you choose a f/4 lens you need to go to at least f/5.6 to sharpen it and you lose another stop and it becomes less useful in low light.

I started a Facebook group today for Sydney photographers and those who live nearby (Wollongong, Southern Highlands, Blue Mtns, Central Coast) so we can all talk and keep in touch and discuss photography issues specific to the Sydney area.
Please feel free to join up we'd love to have you in the group. Login | Facebook |
