Thanks for all the responses - I agree, the Tottenham Court Road building is fascinating. I think some of my images could definitely be sharper, I think that's my main learning point at the minute. I love the K10D, it's amazing, I haven't been able to throw anything at it that it can't handle yet - or at least handle better than I can!
Your capture is great, Mel, I think the great hall is one of the real triumphs of modern architecture in London; it fuses seamlessly with the much older surroundings, complementing instead of antagonising it.
Thanks

These are awesome, I like the offset. Black and white a good choice too - very atmospheric.

I don't think there is anywhere in the world quite like London, and it's at its best in spring, so I took my K10D out with me last weekend, and this is what I came up with.
I would love some feedback and advice, this is only my third shoot with an SLR and while I'm starting to get to grips with it, I could use lots of pointers!
Russell Square
The Great Hall at the British Museum
The Japanese Exhibit in the British Museum
Around Tottenham Court Road
Covent Garden
Dinner at Belgos
Meadow in Wexham
Buttercups!
Thanks for looking :)

I really love the toad...
They are all admirably sharp. It must take a lot of skill to catch things so tiny that move so fast!

Thanks for the opinions... I think my personal favourite is the first one, although I have to confess for having a bit of a thing about concrete in general! The muted, creamy colours seem very Cambridge to me. I'm having some issues with composition though, I think that perhaps "less is more" might be a principle I would benefit from, and perhaps I try to include too much of the surroundings and not so much of the particular thing that has made me want to take the photo... Any thoughts on how to get around that one would be most welcome :)
Thanks again

Hello :)
A collection of photos from my recent trip to Cambridge...
A staircase in St John's
St John's College
A side-street
Churchill College
Clare College
Lunch-time at the Granta
Bikes by The Mill
One of the things I like most about Cambridge is the variation in architecture and landscape it offers, from the classic feel of the old colleges to the sheer, modern buildings slightly further out of town. I can't decide which ones I like better - any thoughts?
As always advice is welcome! Thanks :)

Thanks to you all for the feedback, it's really helpful to get another perspective... I hope to benefit further from all of your experience in the future!
I've been taking more pictures this weekend in Cambridge so I hope to keep posting regularly.
Cheers

A selection of photos from my recent trip to Edinburgh, playing with my new K10D. I'm new to SLRs so any advice / critique is welcome!
A wheel on Mons Meg in Edinburgh Castle
Just downhill of the castle
A paper shop in the new town
By the canal
The Firth of Forth
Sunset at the harbour
Boats at low tide
The Marina at dusk
I think I could really benefit from some more practice (but that's ok because it gives me an excuse to play around!) and perhaps a tripod. I'm really keen to improve so any tips would be gratefully received!

Hi,
My name is Heather and I'm a junior doctor working near London. I've recently been converted to the world of DSLRs - I just bought a Pentax K10D, and am struggling to get to grips with the complexity of apertures and ISOs after a lifetime of point-and-clicking with my little Sanyo compact!
I've just finished my first batch of photos and, despite my absolute lack of technical skills, am blown away by the capabilities of the K10D. The images that survived my poor technique are beyond comparison with any of the photos I could produce on my previous cameras. I'm really excited about improving my abilities and hope that I can benefit from the wealth of experience available on these forums.
I'll be posting some of my first pictures very soon and hope to hear from you with suggestions!
