You might consider trying something that helped me - a long while back. Buy a prime somewhere in the normal range, anywhere from 28mm - 70mm. Get something you can afford to either put on a shelf later or re-sell. Even a manual focus lens; something from the "A" series will be very affordable.
Then use it - and only that lens. Leave your zooms at home. If your experience is like mine your photography will improve - a lot.
I prefer primes and usually if I don't have a specific destination in mind I'll take just one lens out for the day and just have fun with it.

FWIW, I bought a II version and noticed immediately an improvement in IQ over the original. I received a DAL with my K-x and, although it's the same optical formula I am less impressed with the IQ. I ordered a WR and returned it as the IQ was lacking with it also.
So, it may all be related to sample variations, but the II version was the only one that I felt had an acceptable IQ for my tastes.

I'm getting so sick of the whiners on DPreview forums I thought I'd look around here after a long absence. So the first post I happen upon is a political bashing post. I can get that almost anywhere on the net these days.
Why is that a part of a Pentax forum? The sub-title above says "Friendly Pentax Discussion Community". Does that mean "Friendly, except for the political hate we allow here" ??? Pretty sad.

I've use Eneloops for a long time in all sorts of cameras and other devices. But - my K-x doesn't particularly like them. I have the latest firmware, but when I put in Eneloops that may have been charged a week ago, I get a red (or sometimes yellow) battery indicator on the camera. I found that if I pull the Eneloops right from the charger and into the K-x it will sometimes show green.
I emailed Pentax and they said to use batteries that are rated at 2500 mAh or higher. I bought a set of PowerEx 2700's, charged them up and put them in the camera. Green indication and holding, so far. Time will tell, I guess.
