Doing some re-editing of images from last year.
Here is a panorama from a hike in November 2020 which was abt 20km along a mountain range. Sunrise had come and gone and the clouds moved in to create this scene with patches of shadow and highlights.
This image drew me in, because the longer I looked at it the more it felt as if I could be launching myself into it. During editing I also discovered a couple of buzzards circling.
Still checking the details, but it looks as if this one can print at +/-40 inch high by 100 inches wide.
Hope you enjoy this one as much as I do. Comments and critique are welcome....

My daughter lives in Montreal and we visited her frequently when my wife was still alive. I always liked climbing "Mount Royal" to admire this view of Downtown Montreal. The mountain is an island of greenery set in the middle of the city, a quiet place where one can walk, relax and admire nature. This particular evening, I had brought along my Pentax 67 II loaded with Ektar 100 film, three or four lenses and my Manfrotto tripod. I was still in great shape then, because you have to walk almost a kilometer uphill from the parking lot to this elevated viewpoint. The P67 200 mm f/4 gave this view that I liked the best. I set up my tripod, mounted the 67 II on it, composed the picture, determined the best exposure (I always bracketed anyway) and then proceeded to take the image. I used the B position and a locking cable release. I left the lens cap on, triggered the shutter and locked it open, letting any vibrations die down. I always carried a large piece of black cardboard that I put in front of the lens, then I removed the lens cap delicately and exposed the film to the scene, counting slowly "1 - 2 - 3 ... 28 - 29 - 30" in my head for a 30 second exposure @ f/8. At the end, I slipped the piece of cardboard in front of the lens, put the lens cap back on and ended the exposure by closing the shutter. Proceeding this way eliminated all risks of getting a blurred picture because of shutter or mirror shock. The result speaks for itself. Now, with my new artificial knees, this viewpoint is too far away for my walking capacity and I often think about the good times I had when I could go anywhere I wanted. |

I'd buy 3! The bookends (33-55 and 150-300 are going to cost at least $450 ea.). The 80-160 is so cheap it doesn't count. There's one on the bay, in near mint condition, for $149 + 8.75 shipping! This is the current model FA autofocus lens. If I didn't already have a beautiful copy, it would already be in the cart. Gotta love Japan. Disclaimer, I'm not connected to the seller.
Thanks

Hello Yasir. Last year, I was investigating this exact problem : Which 645 zooms should I acquire ? There is almost no technical information concerning any of the 7 zooms offered by Pentax. So I had to proceed by "trial and error", purchasing one zoom and putting it through its paces to check if the performance was adequate, if I could trust the lens to produce decent pictures. I already had bought the FA 45-85 mm f/4.5 and FA 80-160 mm f/4.5 in 2019 and I was extremely satisfied with their image-making potential. These are "middle" focal lengths, very useful as such. But in 2020 I became "more daring" and acquired both the FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 and the FA 150-300 mm f/5.6, more "extreme" focal range items. Personally, I would recommend the FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 and the FA 150-300 mm f/5.6 (please go check my evaluations in the "Lens Reviews" section of this Forum). The FA 55-110 mm f/5.6 is not too bad but must be stopped down to f/16 to performs well. Regards FA 150-300 mm f/5.6 FA 33-55 mm f/4.5 |

Summer is noted in Sydney as the season of storms. This week has had a couple of corkers!

When I went to shoot the storm, I dashed urgently out of the house. As a result, I didn't take enough clothing with me to protect the camera or, really, myself. Shorts and a tee shirt. When the rain proved heavy, I decided the camera needed the tee shirt more than I did. Note camera in background...

I shot this one on a workshop with Ross Hoddinott in November 2014 - nowadays I would shot this on a 0.3 - 0.5 second exposure back then I liked the misty water. It had been a throughly miserable day on my drive down to Cornwall, but it all changed when we got to Trebarweth Strand...

The Warringah Freeway carves its way through the northern Sydney suburbs, connecting to the Harbour Bridge (which is visible in the distance, along with the Opera House). Hard to believe that such a bright, urban scene can also reveal the stars - but it can!

Also, I think, a lot of modern lenses that are designed for AF don't rotate much to go from minimum focus distance to infinity so it can focus faster. And that can make fine focus adjustments by hand problematic too.

@maxloxton that’s a great shot. One of my taste really. The color is there, the composition is there, the textures are well shown. It’s a scene I would love to come across.

One more of the ice last night. The wind was pushing the ice against the shore here, causing it to break and buckle.

Took these panoramas at sunrise from a local mountain hike. The fog started clearing as the sun rose, but a heavy cloud bank on the eastern horizon blocked the actual sunrise.
@Peter Rockstroh and @Barondla thanks for the comments about the Starlings and the papaya. I'll try the setup with bananas and papaya to draw them out a bit.
