I have a little pouch that i keep in my hand. The q has a wristrap connected so when needed it takes about 5-10 seconds to rip it out the pouch! I use tiny d-mount lens from 1938 and they are quite sharp and very light.

I Like this third one!

Hahaa, I think now going back to the original replies that the couple did like the shots just give it them. Learn by what ever you consider to be a mistake and correct it or at least try to in future assignments. We are all only human and we do not get everything right first, second even third time round.

Good luck to you and your future projects!

"RKKS08: I doubt it!"

Be it a pc, television, fridge, microwave, watch or camera - A computer is a computer. And if I programme rip them apart and make them into unrecocognizable robotic machines... They are still binary made computers which all programmers can understand given the right blueprint and documentation. They are just computers.

True, i well appreciated response.

"For me it's all about the subject matter."

That's how i see it.

I know but as the first responder said " RAW vs JPEG is so pre-2010", i just wanted to add Yes but technology Moves on too!

Thank you all for lively responses, Steve.Ledger, have you never made a spelling mistake... i rest my case.

Newer technologies introduce newer ways of working with what once was called the norm. Cameras like the fuji x100s, D800E opened avenues that even die-hards like Zack-Arias, Damian Lovegrove, started shooting direct jpegs straight from the camera. So my open questions maybe should have been does new technology change your way of thinking, since they also contain many in cam tools to give an end product.

I did single out commercial work, as you may or may not be in control of where or how files are edited.

But thanx all!

Not which is better amoringello, only that its one of the first settings most photographer set. without taking enough time with composition, lighting, WB, vision etc.. before saying OK, i fix it in LR/Photoshop.

By no means is this about which is better.

Pentax Q 01 Prime/Q Changes?

I think lessons have been learned and we are in for a good shock. Yes these lens 01 disappeared as fast as they came somehow quickly replaced by the lesser but respectable 02 and later 15-45 (could not remember #no haa..).

Anyway, i see sensor going up, size slightly bigger and controls in the same vein but (forum friendly) more of want was missing. Since companies included Pentax are in business to be in business we will not get everything though ;-)

The raw deal...Or not!

In this fast paced ever changing world of photography, when is raw just a raw deal.

The fuji came close with the renowned X-Series, Sony big gun RX', Pentax misunderstood Q-Series, Canon M, Nikon DF,800E,J/V1 and even rangefinders popping great pixels in jpeg. So is there always the need to shoot RAW...?

Working commercially a photographer doing let's say a photoshoot may have no choice because he's hired sometimes in-directly by the art director whose vision will guide the shoot and in turn hiring digitechs (retoucher) he/she worked with before who collect and manipulate the pure raw files, balancing every last drop of detail into THE ONE Composition.

But what for the lone-ranger street, landscape, hobbist, student etc, Do i shoot raw?

The point is 2012-/2014 cameras are so good in shooting jpeg that you may just wanna save raw for the "visions" you see as your masters (and space :D). Is every shot you take a master.. maybe not then so why shoot raw without thinking.

Pentax cameras and most "other" manufacturers have a wheel/dial/function button that immediately puts you in RAW/Jpeg mode, so why not use it by making a descision per image just as you may adjust a shutter as light changes.

Lots of photographers take pictures which are masters themselves but then because of their mindset decide to roll it through LR/Photoshop/Fastone more from habit than the image actually needing it.

Never forget why you chose photography as your work or hobby, and remind yourself it was not to become a retoucher.

I open the debate as i would love to here your views.

Need Strobes - How much power do i need? Please help

Hi rp_dxn,

Head over to the tangents section of a well known wedding photog NeilVN http://neilvn.com/,

Also here's a quote from an 2012 achive i have by a photographer named Sailor Blue.

"The most common problem with studio strobes for the small home portrait studio is having too much power, not too little. Small home portrait studio strobes should generally be in the range of 300 Ws to 600 Ws for the greatest versatility. Higher power studio strobes frequently require the use of neutral density filters or stacked diffuser panels to lower their power in a small home studio. Having to do either is inconvenient and simply slows you down. A modern DSLR will give you good quality low noise photos at ISO values ranging from the base ISO, generally 100 or 200, up to about ISO 800. This greatly reduces the need for more expensive high power studio strobes."

I can only contribute on the Q out of your choices. Yes it is a great camera, original Q being made from (Magnesium alloy), the Q10/Q7 are not.

Its a good choice when you need more than just an iPhone/Mobile to capture more action/motion or being there shots with DSLR abilities. There's also video of which you can capture 25min footage per-session then pick out individual frames for post-prod.

Battery life well, i will never be happy when compared with a Nikon i owned which 1 battery would stayed charged for around 30 days. Anyways, there is an optional DC-Coupler which goes in place of the battery with a lead that comes out to power it for doing things like Timelapse (Interval recording).

Its a go anywhere camera, and i find that the smaller the lens the more likely it will be in your pocket EVERYWHERE you go! Happy choosing and welcome.

Cant turn on after Firmware update. Need help!

Hi again,

I just wanted to give you a little more info.

The motherboard module contains information on microchip just like computers do. When a system boots up it reads from a RAM or ROM chip (Random/Read access memory), if while updating this chip contains no info then this system becomes blind. No INFO.

What has i believe happened is that half way through your update your battery ran low, so then the system never got to finish. This is the reason you may see a power light maybe even a bright screen but the chip only contains currupt unfinished info so is unable to boot the usual interface.

As the User above has said it can be re-coverable but in the policy you agree to when updating the firmware it states that PENTAX will charge you for a non boot or failed update.

When these items are recovered they access the bios of the system usually via a terminal like the one for the usb, its then put through a computer and application that can access low-level hardware. Once here they transfer a new system ROM file back onto the system then continue with the update file as normal. That's it the system will now work.

Hope you understand at least some of what's involved and good luck with your dealer because he is your gateway to PENTAX.

Hi,

It would be my understanding that this would "brick" the camera, meaning the ROM inside now has no information. This would mean the camera is sadly incapacitated or dead. I would urge you to contact first your dealer then pentax itself as they will charge for this as indicated in the policy when carrying out this type of update.

I am sorry to tell you this and hope your dealer is understanding and can provide you with support or a replacement.
