Love the completely white / blown / highlight window. Not sure what the correct term is but it really makes the image.
Absolutely anything could be out there. She could be waiting for anything. Could be a man (coz i have a dirty mind), could be here kids, could be FEDEX, could waiting for something that will never come.

I may as well just super glue that 15 LTD on there. I have barely touched any of my other lenses in12months...

There is a nice sharp click.
I tightened the lens mouth as much as i could. There is less than a mm of play in the mounted lens now. No more F-- unless i really push the lens (which i won't )

I don't know if that will help. IMO the problem is that the lens can twist a little on the mount. Opening it up will just make it twist more... that is, have more free play. Surely that will make it worse.
It does work OK now, BUT i can force it a little and make it display F--.

Checked the lenses and mount. The lenses were all tight. The mount on the body wasn't really loose. I could tighten each screw about half a turn.
With the DA 15 mounted it all works correctly except if I twist the lens a little... without too much force it still displays F--. Having a close look at the mount my guess is that it is just a tiny bit off centre. That is, I wouldn't say the pins are all exactly centered in their holes.

Recently, my K7 keeps getting stuck on F--. i.e it can not sense/set the aperture of lenses. It happens most with DA LTD 15m but also with most of my other lenses. So it's the body not the lenses.
I have cleaned up the terminals with an eraser (on the body and lenses) and it is better but they were not really dirty.
Any ideas on why this happens and how to fix it permanently. Is one of the contacts specifically for F stop?

What about all these huge cities and roads we have built.... ooohh the pain, the pain. It is an environmental travesty.
Sure the scar will be there but it will be filled with trees and grass.
So what about fires, floods, storms etc? Should we ban 'mother nature' from entering the woods?
I have seen an entire peninsula disappear overnight due to a huge storm. It just washed away. Was this good or bad? Neither, it just happened. I'm sure it took thousands of years for the peninsula to form.
Just to be clear my philosophy is : The people that want to protect and maintain an area are usually the ones that use it.
True custodians of an area want to protect it and maintain it. This includes using it.
The green movement of "BAN EVERYTHING" must be stopped.
"we can do whatever we want because it doesn't really hurt anything worth worrying about".
No one condones this attitude. And not all people that enter 'nature' have this attitude. But is sure is a 'cool' and 'now' to project this onto people.
Pretty soon people will be asking "Not if the bear does or does not sh 1t in the woods, but if he is allowed to".

That was great!
Too many comments from the city bound 'greenies' who have no idea. Rain water and storms tear up a country side for more than vehicles. Those tracks regrow so quickly. Usually mother nature overgrows the track in a year. 5 years later you would never even find it.
Why is it that most greenies never leave the city and go anywhere green? that just want to pontificate about the environment and act holier than thou from their inner city cafe. they just want to ban people from going there because they never do and it makes them feel good.
The people that want to protect and maintain an area are usually the ones that use it.
IMO, Green tips (garbage dumps) are worse for the environment. Since they started charging so much there has been HUGE increase in dumping waste in the bush/forest.... instead of people producing less waste they just dump it now.

The beach! and SeaWorld.
Maybe try the town of Byron Bay, about 1hr drive south.
Try the Glasshouse Mountains, about 2hrs drive north.

Yeah... both died of water ingress. I just like to keep the camera in my pocket when swimming with the kids. Never been deeper than 5 foot.
I'll try pentax USA as that is where it came from.

I used to own a pentax w30. It was great. It lasted 1.5 years and then died due to water ingress.
I replaced it with a pentax w90. It was purchased from adorama.
I purchased it on 7 Jan 2011. It was delivered on 13 Jan 2011.
It died on 12th Jan 2012.
5 days out of warranty. I had the camera in my possession for LESS than 1 year. I had it in my hands for 364 days and it died...
I did contact adorama about it and they said "too bad, so sad!"
Do i bother replacing it with another pentax?

I know! I am in my bid 30s. When i was a youth they were piercings everywhere, illegal smells wafting in the air, god knows what was happening behind the speakers and ladies got your attention by showing some flesh. Now venues are no smoking... public transport is too poor to get drunk... drugs aren't cool... the ladies are covered up emo types. What happened to anarchy?

The lighting was pretty bad. It was just OK in those shots.
I wish a had the 14. I own the 15 but a f4 i think it would be a pretty tough ask.
Apparently the K7 is bad in low light.... seems ok for me.
I will compare it to my K100d.
BTW, i like the person poking the finger. Demonstrates the intimacy of the venue.

Went to a punk gig the other night. The band wanted some shots for the inside of CD cover. This certainly tested out the low light capabilities of the k7 + lenses. In general the kit performed much better than expected in the tough lighting conditions.
I am prefer not use flash (even though i do own one) as it spoils the feel the shots.
Fisheye shot is :
1/25
f3.5
iso 3200
Can't believe how well iso 3200 cleaned up.
40mm shot is:
1/60
f2.8
iso 1600
All the noise came from photomatix.

Thanks for the replies... looks like it will be a 30.5mm cap. I have contacted the Aus pentax importer but i expect that I will be very underwhelmed by their answer.
cheers

AHH! Threw it out today, the small lens cap was in my pocket. I then used the same pocket for rubbish. At the end of the day I cringed as I realised that I had thrown it in the trash.
Does anyone where to get a replacement in AUS or even in USA.
Are any of these correct? Pentax Front Lens Cap for DA 40mm f/2.8

The best bet is to look at photos taken by the lenses you are considering to buy. Search here and on flikr.
I have a A50.17 and a M501.4 in my drawer. I have barely used them since i got the 40. BUT that may be due to not being auto focus.
Being wider lenses, you can get away slower shutter speeds.

Here is my 2c worth.
For your $1000 bucks i'd get:
DA 40mm LTD
DA 15mm LTD
Optio w90 ( 16426 Pentax Optio W90 12.1 Megapixel, Waterproof, Dust/Cold/Shock-Proof Digital Camera, Wide-Angle 5x Optical Zoom, Green )
The 40mm is great indoors and just a little wider than the 50.
The 15mm is just so good. I have barely removed it from my camera for months.
Doesn't sound like you REALLY want a tele zoom. For get it for now.
You'll keep the two DA LTDs for ever so it is a good purchase.
IQ of both is superb.
I suggested the w90 because you have kids. It's not always practical to carry the DSLR. These things will take so much abuse it's not funny. You can take them every where. I also use mine to teach the kids to take pics. Also has video, the k10 doesn't. At the moment the green one is $199 at adorama.
Upgrade the body later... there is always a better one being released.
My grand total for all this (from adorama) is $1039.

My suggestion is to look at as many images from your 'short list' lenses. I recently had to choose between 15mm ltd and 21mm ltd. On paper, the 21mm was the logical choice. I bought the 15mm based on the sample images in here and on flickr. The pictures taken with a particular lens will sway your decision (this applies more to primes than it does to zooms).
My vote is always for the ltd primes. Once you handle the camera with a tiny little lens vs the chunker zoom you will have your answer. Of course if size doesn't matter to you (then you are lying ;) ) then get anything you like..

IMO, the Aus pentax importer is doing their best to kill off the brand in this country :o
EG. a local based 15mm LTD from a cheap shop: Pentax Lens DA 15mm f/4 ED AL LTD - Digital Camera Warehouse Australia
!!! $1330 WTF?
I just got one from USA for $approx $560 including shipping. I don't think a local warranty is worth it in this case.
The reason i say that Aus pentax importer is doing their best to kill off the brand in this country is because they will offer to price match from OS. So, if you email them with a link to a price at B&H then they will match it. Sounds good right?!?!
What if you are a camera shop and your own supplier is undercutting you? Then you would say "fair go mate" and stop selling their brand.
IMO, fcuk the middle men and sell direct or setup your own pentax aus store.
