Hi All
I'm a bit worried. Can't get any activity out of either the hotshoe or PC connector on body side to fire anything (even single pin transmitters or flashes). I can get the PC connector on an LS lens to go, but this isn't camera derived.
1) Has anyone struck this before?
2) Are there any settings that could turn these off that I'm not aware of? Seems unlikely but hoping!
I am really hoping there is a simple explanation to this that I'm unaware of? Thanks in advance.
Regards
Rob ---------- Post added 06-22-16 at 06:59 AM ---------- Ok - false alarm.
So one learning and one reminder for me
1) fastest normal flash sync in only 1/125 - I knew this, but In my mind I had 1/180, but that's my Canon 5 series back up to my Canon 1 series (which is 1/250). Mix up
2) what I didn't realise was that 645z locks out any flash firing if you use manual 1/180th or greater. Hmm, not struck that before. Normally on other slr's you'll still get a firing, but a 2nd curtain line in frame.
Well that wasted my time, and yours.
As a bonus, and thanks, you might like to check out this unique shot I took in Antarctica with the 645Z and 25mm I shot Gareth Morgan for you by Rob Suisted, well known New Zealand natural stock photographer, for NZ Geographic Magazine.

My 200FA gathers dust. Its very bad for CA, and disappointingly unsharp for a prime. The 80-160 is much better

Just been brought to my attention that Hasselblad have brought the X-rite colorchecker passport process into their Phocus software. Phocus 2.9 Colour Calibration - Hasselblad
I guess the X-rite software doesn't work for their large files, just like it doesn't for the 645z.

Xrite hv a good product. If only they'd stop milking an old product for all it's worth and actually update it's firmware to keep up with the times.

Just a simple PC cord from lens to flash. If the flash doesn't have a PC socket just get one of those small cheap ones that use your flash's shoe. If you have a wireless transmitter unit, they normally have a PC connection. Fire that from the lens PC socket, to fire your flash. It's simpler than you think.
I love the 135LS. Bit of a drag to recock, but worth it.

I own the 200mm FA, used it twice and won't use it again professionally. It's soft and has bad CA. Maybe I have a bad copy. The 80-160 FA leaves it for dead. Rob

Much bigger problems with pentax glass to steer around, like VERY bad CA and flare on some. Diffraction is the least of your worries.

Bugger, so xrite have a possible avenue/workaround to avoid fixing the problem by telling canon users to use MRaw.
They're avoided all requests and social media urgings to tackle this problem for a year now. Still on firmware 1.0

Hi All. Anyone using Flucard and iPhone?
I occasionally need to transfer low res jpegs (XS size) to my phone (iPhone 5). The first 2 times worked fine (2 months ago), but I can't for the life of me look into images in the card anymore so I can save into my phone.
I've checked for app updates, and can control the camera fine (so connection is OK), just seem to have lost this ability.
Anyone else having problems now? Thanks, Rob

Well my problem with the 2-3 stop exposure wander from f5.6-32 is now accompanied by the strange behaviour of the diaphragm starting off in a mid closed position from mounting, or sitting on the camera a while. I have to take a frame, or do a DOF preview to open it up again. Seems like my problems are around the diaphragm mechanism. A frustrating saga indeed. Rob

So Lacunapratum, you're basically telling me that I can't get a warranty replacement because you were a greedy, well organised, thinking ahead type of person. I've taken you from my Xmas card list and won't be cat sitting for you anymore, even if you asked very nicely ;-> |

I concur with your sentiment on the 25mm. I'm falling in love with it the more I get used to it it's traits. Who knows, maybe a decent independent lens maker might step into the fray? Won't hold my breath. Rob

Well it went to Japan and apparently had the PC board replaced but it's still doing the same thing on arrival back. The aperture unit seems the dodgy bit to me. So likely to go back again. Not ideal at all.

Problem is they're a discontinued line now. The suggestion is a 28-45mm, but it's a major commitment for wilderness photography (which may involve 10 days or more lugging). That would push me back my old Canon kit which I don't want to do!

Thank you very much Mike, that's very kind of you. Yes, the vignetting wide open is real, but the exposure wander of several stops is not. I wonder what they did in Japan for 3 months? Not happy, I've only used it a few times since new. Thanks, Rob

Disappointed I can't get anyone's help on this quick request - it's literally 1 minute of your time and would cast light onto a problem potentially affecting others.

I forgot to say that it takes about 1minute to do. Just flick through the images on the playback screen and you will immediately see the issue.
Also, just saying your lens seems fine without trying doesn't really help. I had no idea either until I tried it.

Hi Thomas. Yes, they said they replaced the PC board in it. Nothing about the aperture itself. Rob

Recently had my (almost virgin) 25mmDA return from repair. The lens had a 2-3 stop exposure divergence from f4-f32 (becoming consistently more overexposed).
Just tested it again and it's still happening.
If you own this lens, could you please report your experience by setting your 645 (z or d) to manual.
Start at f4 (select relevant shutter) and take a frame. Then go up an aperture and down a shutter speed, all the way to f32. Then report how even yr exposures are throughout the range.
Thanks, Rob

I've used the 135mm LS & 645z a few times. Had problems initially as the 135 hadn't been used for years when I got it about 9months back. It came right after repeated activations.
I used it for a portrait shoot last week again and about 1 of 10 frames were very overexposed. I'm suspecting the lens shutter is perhaps becoming sticky?
See what happens if you try repeatedly. It may free up like mine?

You are syncing the flash off the PC connector on the lens, not the camera body, I'm assuming (not that clear to me from yr post)?

Hi Royce, Kolor-Picker, Gonzo and others.
Wow, Royce you went to a lot of work and care in thinking this through. Your knowledge about the mechanics of this is well beyond mine and I have learnt a lot.
I've just tried similar Canon 1DsMk3 and 5DMk2 raw frames of similar skies and pushed the heck out of them in Canon DPP - the OEM raw converter. I got clean predictable shift to white (even with contrast right up). The drop off into highlight burnout is elegant and clean even with some fairly hard pushing. Lovely.
So I ran the same files through Lightroom. Boom, nasty cyan blue banding fairly easily (though it's hard to gauge equiv inputs inthe two converters)!?
From quick testing I'm wondering if this could this be Adobe/LR specific issue? Could someone run the two 645z .DNG files through a different RAW converter you're used to and see if you can replicate this issue, or at least compare them?
Cheers
Rob
