Nice! I have this lens as well and really like it. My copy doesn't have the A-function anymore so I use it like an M.

Although I must admit it was bit unintentionally, nevertheless I liked the result. Does that count?

What the heck. . . ?

I understand that the forum makes money from advertising and that it can't exist without that, so of course I'm fine with that. But I'm not at all happy with the idea that content that I post on the forum might be packaged up and resold for somebody else's commercial benefit in the form of a subscription newsletter.

There will be no more content from me on this forum until there's some more clarification about this is going to work. If you want to resell my words or photos as commercial products then you're going to have to pay me for them.

For those that are saying neither.

Both camera do a fine job at infrared unmodified. That alone makes the worth the less than $100 cost of admission

It's only a cult if the beliefs are irrational. The KP is a fantastic camera is a fact and requires no belief. The fact it can also walk on water, well..............

That's a shame. I think there's a lot of variation from model to model in the results that are possible with CHDK on the old Canon compacts. I used to get decent results from my A1200 but the raw files needed some tweaking with the colour balance and saturation in Camera Raw. Meanwhile the A560 produces really nice results from the raw files just using the embedded profile at default settings.

But whenever I see any old Powershot for £10 or under, I can't resist getting it to give CHDK a try. Often the results are hideous, in which case I just redonate it to whichever charity shop I bought it from, but sometimes you hit on a winner.:)

Is Your Camera Your "BELOVED"?

I often used to say, "My beloved Takumars." At least I did in the days before I fell out of love with lugging so much metal and glass around. And I still sometimes say, "My beloved K1000." Which I think is fair enough, since I've been shooting with it since 1980. It's harmless hyperbole, and not for one moment would I ever expect anyone to imagine that there's some sort of a genuine romantic obsession involved.

Anyway, that's enough from me for know. I need to start getting ready for my hot date with that cute photocopier that I met at the office the other day.

Finally picked it up and I’d say $20 well spent.

Need to figure out the filter tray and get a cheap timer, but it’ll work until I pickup one that’ll do medium format.

I’ll just use my watch and the toggle switch for now.

FF vs. APSC

So you're basically saying:

If you've got a large light sensitive surface, made up of tiny individual elements (chemical grains or pixels) that are able to capture very fine detail, and you project a very sharp image onto that surface with a high resolution lens, then you'll end up with a very detailed photograph.

Which is also something that's been known since at least the 1840s. I don't see the point of larding it up with so much pseudo-technical sounding gobbledegook that people are unable to figure out what you're actually trying to talk about.

In the context of this thread, the question is whether or not the difference between APS-C and FF is big enough for it to make any significant difference in the vast majority of use cases. I would argue that the difference between the two formats is so small that it's undetectable in most cases other than extremely large prints, or in the extremely tight crops that @Ian Stuart Forsyth likes to deploy.

Hackers, farmers, and doctors unite! Support for Right to Repair laws slowly grows

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronics_right_to_repair

The topic has come up in many discussions of Precision etc. there is a movement to try to force products to be able to be repaired by independent shops and individual owners.

This article is about the general context, but I’m curious about the photographic world impact. Many manufacturers do not sell parts to users and limit the ships that can buy parts.

Do you think this has any chance to change?

Wow !!! The paranoia in todays world is truly frightening. We should all be fighting this kind of thing. Innocent actions resulting in a fear of unreasonable retribution, we may as well be living in Stalins Russia instead of the free society we are supposed to enjoy.
Screw it....I just had two rolls developed from a pair of cameras, some of the shots arent bad at all and the seller was pleased to get some pics of her family back.

Your wish is my command.

I was playing around with various "witty" ideas based on the filmstrip lettering before I settled on "Go screwy". One I liked was: "Pentax Spotmatic. Better than your camera since 1964."

My best methodology for film scanning with RAW-camera

Of course everyone is entitled to their own aesthetic preferences, and if you prefer straight prints with no manipulation then that's fine. But I have to respectfully disagree with your use of the word "should" when you say : "The darkroom print should give the same look as the film itself." To say that is to forbid all the various techniques that were developed by film photographers over the decades for getting the best possible prints from their negatives.

My original point was that film photography in the digital era seems to have been hijacked by those who believe that only a straight, unmanipulated wet print or scan counts as the "true" look of film. And I think that's sad, because film is capable of so much more than that.

But ultimately it is just a question of aesthetic choices. When I make digital copies of my three decades worth of Kodachromes I always DSLR scan, and I process in Photoshop to make the result on the screen look as close as possible to the original slide on my daylight balanced lightbox. And when I occasionally shoot a roll or two of film nowadays, I feel entirely free to post-process in whatever ways will give me the result I want. :)

What is the actual benefit of mirrorless?

With a DSLR, vampires can sneak up on you when you're shooting at night because you can't see them through the viewfinder. But with a mirrorless you can see them coming. And here's another useful photography tip: a hefty old centre braced tripod is much better than a lightweight carbon fibre one for bashing the brains out of zombies.

It's the everyday practicalities of real world use that matter most.
