K-50 body only, bought in 2014. Aperture changing does not work, so you can only use lenses that have manual aperture setting on them.

I have a K-3 that I use often and realized that I haven't used the K-50 in more than two years since the aperture block failed. I'd rather someone who is actually going to use it even a little bit have it.

Ah, the manual. Should RTFM first :-). It was too tempting to just rip open the box and start shooting.

Phew! Thanks for the confirmation Steve, NaN and bertwert.

And yes - I won't shake it. Just noticed the weirdly soothing whoosh when I happened to turn it upside down to insert the battery.

Hiya folks -

Just got this one today. Even without mounting the lens, when I turn the body upside down or fully sideways, something inside seems to move a bit making a slight 'whoosh'. Is that normal? If so, any idea what is moving inside/?

If it is an issue, I can still return it for a replacement. So I appreciate your inputs.

Cheers!

Along with back button, I use center point focus. That way I can control what I am focusing on rather than let the camera decide.

It took some practice with center point only but I get a higher hit rate now.

Not sure if that was the 'right' way, but it works for me. Someday I'll learn to use the full array of focus points.

AF speed: DA*50-135 screwdrive vs Sigma 50-150

Second the Sigma 50-150. I use it for (indoor) roller derby shooting. AF is fast enough and the f2.8 is nice so that I don't have to bump up the ISO too much on my K3. IQ is great. It does cost a pretty penny though. The eBay link above...is about how much I paid last year.

Dunno about the AF speed on Pentax 50-135.

I needed practice to get proper shots with the sigma, initial ones were blurry in different parts of the picture. But that was probably just me learning how to work with the SR system and a monopod (sometimes leaving SR on with a tripod and not getting good shots).

johnhilvert, IgorZ, THoog: Thank you for your comments. Yeah, I tried to make the cannon look menacing to the "house" but guess that really didn't come across. Perhaps a higher angle and more to the left, or as you said, picked a different cannon and house. Perhaps less sky, or PP sky to make it less pretty. And I don't know how to keep the look and feel of the picture (dark, gritty) and yet keep the details in the back of the cannon. I increased shadows in LR, but when using the Nik Silver-something plugin, they all got lost.

First off, I didn't realize there was a separate 'critique' section in the forum so I posted it in the regular 'post your pictures' section and was wondering why no one was suggesting improvements.

So I made a pit stop in the park and only had 10 minutes to take pictures. I was trying to bring out the stark, gritty and bleak feelings I had despite it being a sunny day. The idea was to show that the house is in a vulnerable position in front of the cannon, and it being pointed away makes it tense as in 'that house is next'. I am not sure if the image captures all those feelings. I think the house should have been in focus and not the cannon, but maybe not...given the historical context of the quick trip I wanted to capture the history stuff. Still, I think a blurry cannon would have still made the point. There is some weird shake-reduction stuff going on at the bottom of the cannon that is partially hidden by the dark vignetted corner - should've got my tripod out. The B&W image itself....while interesting (as my first real attempt at PP and using the newly free Nik Collection via LR6), the sky maybe seems too picture perfect for an image that is passing off as an old one? It seemed nice while I was editing it.

In any case, I would appreciate your comments and suggestions. I am not a pro and only started photography in 2014, so please don't assume I have any artistic skills. What changes would have made the image more compelling? Angle, perspective, technique, lighting, PP - all fair game. Constructive as well as harsh criticism welcome. Thanks.
