Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will get it repaired. Shutter count is around 6.5k so I will sell it off and grab on to the k3. The only issue I have with k-50 is low light photography which I have heard is better with k3 and k5iis.

I was confused because I visited a local store and the vendor suggested k5iis over k3 as he says that k5 iis is better in iq.

My K50 suffered from aperture block failure around 6 months back. I have been using the camera with AA batteries and manual lenses as is.
But now I am thinking of replacing it but I don't have budget to fund a new one. I found two options of used cameras. One of them is selling a k-3 with accessories and grip for 460$ and 13k shutter count. The other guy is selling a k5 iis with accessories and da 50 1.8 for 350$ (shutter count 12k). The repair of aperture block would cost me around 120$.
What do you guys suggest?

Thanks for all the valuable information. I have been using eneloop batteries in the AA bracket and that might be mitigating the problem.
I will try and revert to an older firmware but I have a gut feeling that it won't help. Prima facie, this seems to be a hardware issue to me. I have no idea how much will it cost to repair as I presume the motor would have to be replaced. The service center has asked me to send the camera and then they would give me an estimate.

My K-50 has been behaving weird since the 1.1 upgrade.
With the OEM battery, the camera struggles to take pictures in low light and the pictures are pitch black. On the contrary, the pictures are fine when I use AA batteries. I have checked multiple permutations and combinations of modes and different lenses. Every time, the pictures are fine with AA but they struggle with the stock battery.
The Live mode is black too with OEM battery. I assume that the battery might have gone bad. But the battery seems to work perfectly, just the pictures are black.
My question is that will the problem be solved if I downgrade the firmware? Is there any other way of checking the OEM battery. The camera and the battery is four years old.

Pentax has been very active nowadays and you can email them for support. They have setup centers in few cities where you can give the camera for service. There is one in Bangalore now. PM me if you want any other help.

So, I started using this lens. I figured out that it has to be used in complete Manual mode for sharpest pictures. Best pictures come at F4 and higher. Since this is my first stint with complete manual lens, should I keep anything else in mind?

I happened to look up the Craigslist and got this lens for 60$. I read the reviews online and found that it suffers from CA wide open. Any suggestions on how could I use it to minimise CA on my K-50? Also, I am thinking of upgrading the body to K-3. Does that help in any way?
