Moving (back) to UK. Job opportunities?

You are the banking expert so listening to you is a wise thing to do haha. If it were any other field i would 100% agree with you but photography always feels bit local, mouth to mouth advertisement. Why would anyone hire someone who isn't even in the country yet and not even citizen?

Considering my age, i consider myself having a decent experience in the field but by all means, i am a mediocre photographer.

Thanks for the information.

I knew some of the basics as i previously worked in UK and it is likely that i will spend a couple of months living off my savings. And heck if i can get a part-time half-decent assistant work that would be great.

Judging from my past experience, i need to earn around 800 pounds to make a living and fully support myself, that is not a terrible hard goal to reach in first few months but finding the job and community is vital.

And thanks for the website again! seems useful :)

Hey everyone, I have a fairly complex question to ask and i might need some advice.

Is it possible to move into a new country, know no one and manage to survive with photography?

My story:

I moved back to my home country Cyprus after finishing my Ba and working in UK for a couple of years. 3 years ago i wasn't sure to move back to Cyprus and now i surely regret it. I managed to find some decent paying jobs but they never stick mostly due to the work environment or because of me being unhappy. This year i decided to start a masters degree in Visual Arts (closest i could find to photography), and instead of learning something... anything!... we just sit in a class and watch late 90's BBC Annie Leibovitz documentary in a good day. Heck, my photography lecturer claims digital cameras have max 5 stops of DR, above iso 100 is useless, we need to always manual focus because af is never reliable (we had an exhibition and everybody's photos were super blurry thanks to manual focus and canon 600d + 18-55 combos (hard to mf in that camera)) and all cameras' sync speed is 1/100. That and cancelling classes every 2 weeks was the last straw for me.

My 3 years Cyprus story resulted in me feeling like a cash machine from the education perspective and not satisfied with work perspective. I already don't like living here so why not go back to UK?
Options are crashing at friends either in Stoke on Trent or Swansea or Kent for 1-2 months until i can find a job. But is it even possible to move into a country that you don't know a single person and find work in photography?

Any insights, advice or comments are welcomed.

Sorry if it was a bit too long and repetitive but i am really frustrated here and thank you pentaxforum.

Fuji X-H1: Confirmed Specs/Rumours so far (including sketch)

Hey everyone. I know there is already a X-H1 thread here and we are Pentax forums, but i wanted to gather up all the info released/speculated on X-H1 so far. I will try to update it as often as possible.

So what is Fuji X-H1?
It's a new entry to Fuji's line up. It supposed to be a Hybrid camera for video/stills and will be Fuji's flagship. It will be the first Fuji with Ibis and apparently, it is the cut-down version of the "ultimate X camera that will be priced around 3000 dollars"

Confirmed or likely to be true specs so far:

1) 5 axis IBIS
2) Will cost around $2,000
3) IBIS will not allow the sensor shift multishot
4) IBIS and OIS won't work together
5) Same sensor and processor of the X-T2 but will have a new Film simulation Eterna
6) EVF with 30%+ Higher Resolution than X-T2
7) 4K, 1.17x crop, 30p, 4:2:0 8 bit 200 Mbps
8) Same LCD with X-T2 but with touch function.
9) Same battery with X-T2
10) It's actually fairly large for an apsc mirrorless camera. And gets a new battery grip.
11) Exposure compensation dial is gone, replaced with a top panel LCD like in GFX
12) To be announced at Imaging USA and shipping starts around February
13) Internal F -Log

Most of the info is coming from FujiRumours which seems to be a fairly accurate source of information so far.

You need to re-check your info mate. Since XT2 fuji had been a king in mirrorless AF, especially with the newest update. Yes, it is not A9 level, but i have seen that thing go toe to toe with D500 in good light and completely decimate Em-1 mk2 in low light. I will admit Sony eye detection is miles better than Fuji's implementation but it still works well in simple situations.

I know it is due to the Leds but funny enough a Canon 750d with kit lens had more keepers and more consistent results than my Pentax K3 (side to side shooting) for an event and that was super weird.

Pretty much every mirrorless camera is smaller than what Pentax is offering right now. They also got smaller lenses, and have fast + compactish primes (looking at you Fuji). Although ergonomics and customization is great at Pentax cameras again they are falling behind with the cameras like XT2. We also don't even have the best ibis anymore, Olympus with 6.5 stops take the care, Sony also good ibis but i find Pentax sensor shift tech to be more useful than more mp. Catch in focus is a neat feature but i don't think many people use it. lastly, Video is not even bad anymore...:(

but again i am just stating the problems i am observing and still happy with my k3. (only thing i HATE about pentax and k3 is that i can't tether my camera)

They said full sensor readout with ibis as well and now it comes with same batteries as X-T2

In Bayern sensors, you move 1 pixel in square motion and you covered all the different pixel colors. X-trans is bit more randomized, 4 greens together, so moving all of them without any drawbacks is bit more problematic in my opinion.

I use my K3 and K5ii for weddings and portraits. The forum will hate me for saying this but Pentax is not necessarily the best in terms of AWB or AF.

My experience is there is a slight magenta cast in awb compared to my canon system and awb got bit erratic, color burn, during some extreme situations (like concerts, but haven't experienced that in any wedding or portrait session).
AF is super fine and reliable for portrait sessions in both outdoors and studio but it always felt a bit "lacking" compared to my canon experience. However, i am sure all there minor issues had been improved with K1.

The menu system is one of the best if not the best imho. Heck, you can change the color of the bloody thing to hot pink and most stuff is easy to find. Image quality wise Pentax had always been one of the better ones as well as high iso. Don't expect D850 or A7sii level of high iso performance but for the price any pentax camera is hard to beat for portraiture, landscape and some studio work.
Again these are my experiences and my personal thoughts and i have covered weddings with K3, 5dmk3, d800 and my comparison mainly comes between these.

My K3 has that option in the extended menu. Just go to menu and far right category (C), there should be an option eventually. I don't have the K-1 so don't know exactly which page of the menu.

I just discovered a VERY odd monolight at... Godox's uk website. There is absolutely zero information about the product on the internet, no reviews no nothing.

Definitely Not a Godox product.
Product of Photomart.co.uk
Looks like Profoto B1

Anyone ever heard of these before?

That all fits to a 400 AW??? mine can barely fit with similar items minus DFA 15-450 and plus sigma 30mm art.

I have tried 500 AW and if you have longer, larger lenses it was a sensible choice. However, i found it slightly too big for a backpack also it is too big for on-cabin luggage for some airlines. Apparently 500 AW 2 is even better and has a 15" laptop place.

If you don't have back problems, don't mind the bulk go for it, Flipsides are awesome. On the other hand, you can spend a bit more and get yourself a roller/backpack hybrid.

+1 on SSD advice. But no need to push for M.2 NVME, bit overkill and most apps can't utilize it.

That's a nice combo!
Just waiting X-T2s do drop so maybe i can pick up the X-T2 or if the price is right newer version. Touchscreen and ibis would be killer. I wish X-t20 or x-e3 had tethering options, the only real killer for me.
