Now...lets talk about names

Pentax has always embraced it's past. Maybe like the MX-1 they will give it a name reminding us of the film cameras of old.

Speaking of which I hope it comes in silver. I love my silver k-3 and want a silver Pentax FX-1000(my name for the camera)

I've learned so much with my K-3. It will be great though to take my legacy lenses and mount them to a new digital camera and utilize to the full.

Hello again friends. I have found a couple of very well kept M42 lenses at a local camera shop. Just need some advice as to whether these are priced fairly and how they perform optically. Holding them in hand everything feels perfect. ocus rings are well dampened. Aperture rings are snappy. Now what's you all's opinion about these beauty's?

First the 300mm F4 prime. It's priced at 300$ and comes with original case

Next is the shorter one. The 100mm Macro F4 priced at 200$ and comes with original lense hood

Thank you. The diopeter does not help me unfortunately. My eyes are around -4 and at the best settings I can't even see the numbers in the viewfinder.

---------- Post added 11-09-14 at 11:16 PM ----------

I should have specified also that I want to see the whole entire image corner to corner. I have k-1000's and other 35mm vintage cameras and have no trouble seeing the whole image. The k-3, perhaps it's because APS-C, is much different. It takes more effort to view and compose each shot.

Hello friends I have a predicament that is rather annoying. I have been shooting with the K-3 some time now and I have run into this almost every time. I have a hard time being able to see the entire frame through the view finder when I hold the camera to my face.

Problem 1. My nose is big. How big? well it's relative to anybody but to give context my nose is a lot like Ian Mckellon's. When I try to look through the view finder I have to keep my head at the right angle so I can get my nose out of the way and make contact with my glasses to the view finder.

Problem 2. I wear glasses. If there's any residue on the view finder my glasses pick it up. And two it creates more space between me and the viewfinder.

Would the viewfinder Loupe 0-me53 magnifier help? Yes I know I can use live view. But most lenses just seem to work better without live view. So any suggestions besides plastic surgery would be great to hear. Thanks again friends.

I should also point out the diopter doesn't help me...my vision is poor. So my glasses have to stay.

I have some sad news. My dog of ten+ years died last week. She was a wonderful companion completely loyal and very loving. She was a cancer survivor and had three legs. Her name was Precious, and she was an old country dog that was as smart as could be and lived the country dream to the very end. She was the subject of many of my best photographs. I'll miss her.

The good news is I photographed her in my studio when she was healthy just months ago. So I encourage you to post your best pet dog photos along with me. Include a brief bio with any interesting facts like breed or mix of breeds. Again fill this thread with your most artistic or meaningful work or your companion. So don't let this thread be a plea for simpathy. Celebrate your friend! Oh and no cats this time, only dogs.

Yes I don't have much time either. But when I analys my "computer time" and see what I do on here. It is usually spent looking at expensive tripod legs and researching pricey gear. So instead I can just be on the forums for ten minutes and get something done for once. :)

Thanks for the response friends. But I'm noticing the comments "I don't need these lenses". True, yes, but just imagine this. Your offered a brand new 2015 Lexus IS(Im not saying the lens is a lexus or comparable) for free with just a few stipulations. Would you say "You know what, I already got a car, I don't need another. No thanks man." No you wouldn't! So just take the danged car and have fun with it! Likewise the forums are offering a giveaway so why not try to win. Just try a little.

Thankfully no matter what happens, all the cameras with the name "PENTX" on them have incredible longevity (thanks to the superior build we have all come to love). So despite said company comming or going, the cameras, these products that make our lives more enjoyable will always be there.

...Hope that helps a little.

Hello friends. Pentax forums has announced yet another give away! Two of the best lenses to the forums most well recieved member. If your like me then you have already decided that this is another perfectly good golden opportunity to sit and watch pass by because you feel you just won't win.

The truth is I am not content to sit and watch this contest pass me by. I could actually USE one of these lenses and I really want the FA 77. And quite frankly, I am tired of letting such giveaways pass me by. So c'mon! Give it a try! post as much as you can each day people, and let's give feedback, like each others posts, and explore the forums like we haven't before.

If you've taken a moment to read this short statement and respond I wish to thank you by liking your post. Thanks again friends, I hope to hear what you all have to say.

Hello friends, upon jumping into digital the start of this year i've been running into lot's of photographers and to my suprise I have seen several dedicated pentax shooters. Besides that many of my canon and Nikon friends have this respect for Pentax that surprised me at first. I've had some oldtimers tell me they would sooner switch to Pentax than any other system. Anytime I run into a fellow Pentax person we are almost immediate friends. And again it surprises me to find another pentaxian.

So what's your reaction like when you find another Pentax shooter? Do you hit it off, or is the encounter more a a friendly tip of the hat to one another?

Also there and interesting post by ABMJ titled "Are we really THAT rare". Check it out. It's similar to this post but a little different. :)

Did anybody else see Adoramas mistake in their pentax lens sale going on now? They had the DA 50-135 for 109$ instead of 1096$! I tried to get it but Adorama wouldn't let me darn it! And now it's listed at the higher price. Oh well.

Years ago walmart accidentally did the same thing with their high dollar TV's.

Can haze and dust be cleaned in a lens?

Thank you. The lens came on a k-1000 body that I paid 25 buck for. Steal of a deal! So since it was so cheap I guess I could spend a little extra to get it cleaned.

I've shot a lot with it and never really noticed. But it always seemed a little less crisp then my da 35mm 2.4 which is a good lens but far inferior as for as build.

Can haze and dust be cleaned in a lens?

Hello friends. These days of high powered sensor and sharp optics are demanding the best glass. And any artifacts really degrade image quality. So imagine my surprise when I was examining my M 50mm lens, which is in perfect condition on the exterior, under the harsh LED light and discovered a layer of haze and dust in one of the elements inside.

This is not a few specks of dust but a layer of haze around one of the elements and layers of dust (see photos). I threw away an offbrand zoom days ago because I couldn't get a clear shot no matter what and it was because dust..

I want to build a supply of old lenses but if they all have dust like this I might change my mind. Yes I know I'm being very harsh, but I am all about image quality and these lenses can still wow people.

How does it compare with your lens? Can the lenses be cleaned? Who could do it? And How much will it cost?

Yes and at the time they had no response(this was in march). I noticed it first switching between live view and the viewfinder so I just avoided live view. But the last time was during using the view finder. I have yet to update to the latest firmware. Maybe that will help?

K-3 Glitch. very perplexing.

I've had my K-3 since February this year and have been having an inconsistent but disturbing problem.

The problem seems to happen when I use manual lenses(and by manual I mean no auto or 'A' feature at all). I always have it in the manual setting for my old lenses. Sometime after taking a picture my LCD and information in my veiwfinder go off but the top LCD display remains on. I can't do anything, the camera becomes a vegetable. Even when I turn it off the camera still displays a few numbers on the top LCD, kinda like when it's plugged into the computer. When I flip the switch back on everything seems normal and I can release the shutter, but it won't write to the memory card.

In the end I have to pull the battery to get things back top normal. And if I'm lucky haven't lost any photos.

What's going on here? I would appreciate any help. Thank you
-Chris

Getting into street photography

I've never been into street photography, but I have shot film for years and have picked some tips up on the way.

My camera has been the pentax k-1000. I far appreciate it above any other camera. It gives me a lot of tactile feedback. Shuch as the mirror slap, feeling the clicking of the film advancement bar or the resistance from the shutter speed wheel. The same is true for the lenses. They are all metal, require precise usage, and the cliking of the aperture ring activates my brain. I wish my k-3 was as pleasurable to use.

These cameras are discreet and people actually like to be photographed by them.

I got my latest k-1000 locally for 25buck and it looks brand new.

All in all good luck!
-Chris
