I bought a Kodak Sr. Six-20 for a few bucks last christmas. It was meant to be a desk decoration. To my surprise, it worked. When I saw and handled, the 6x9 negative.......wow! They look amazing and are easy to handle and scan. I have a 6x7 mlu now. I still shoot the kodak from time to time. As mentioned by others, the fuji looks like a nice option. The GW690 looks very attractive.

As a bonus the old folder came with a roll of undeveloped film. Found in a Senior Six-20 | Flickr

New Flash Old Body

I don't mind shooting manual flash. The Metz makes it easy to have a light touch. I use it for fill and and boost, so blowouts shouldn't be a problem on negative film. Having said that, the older flashes seem pretty inexpensive. Any reason to not buy a af280t flash?

As far as I know it's digital P-TTL. So, I loose the aperture priority mode? That seems like a minor trade.

Is there any chance of damage to the flash using the hot shoe?

I know, you are thinking I just bought a new suit for myself. Not so.
I have a Metz 52 af-1 that I adore. I use it with my digital bodies. I would like to use it with my LX. Is there any reason I wouldn't slap it on the hotshoe and fire away? What should I expect? I don't mind wasting film, but any advice that minimizes it would be appreciated.
I read that the AF 280t is the flash of choice on the LX. What do I do to get the Metz to mimic it?

Cheers,
Duke

IR photography with pentax MX1

As CPK noted, the best IR times are the hardest times to view an LCD. I have a full spectrum K-50. When the light is strong enough to use the deeper IR filters, it's a bit tough to see. With a 720 nm it's workable, most of the time. If your MX is easy to see in daylight, pull the hot mirror off and hold a square IR filter in front of it.

I had my K-50 converted to full spectrum. The manufacturers date and shutter count seems to have gone AWOL. Is this normal?

what kind of film should I get?

The 800 speed color films (Portra and CineStill) have grain, but it is a pleasant grain(at box speed). My personal experience (I'm a hack who shoots a lot, not a chemist) with higher speed B&W films is that chemistry has as much an effect on the look of the grain as the emulsion does.

Ektar and Portra. Having said that, CineStill 800 is in my LX right now. It comes in two speeds - hella fast and hella slow. I'm a big fan. It's replacing Portra more and more.

Less than 48 hours. In the 90's I dropped a KX down a flight of concrete stairs. It bounced. The carnage was impressive.
Two years ago I dropped a K50 on a different flight of stairs. It did not bounce. The camera had a new divot, but no other issues. The attached Porst did not survive.

computer buying advice for k3

I'm a lifelong musician, so my "good" computers are Macs. I have PCs for work and astronomy, but they are "just good enough", so a comparison isn't fair. I can second the bit about the screen - so long as you're thick skinned. When I moved to the 5K mac, I was really excited to see the difference. The K-50 and K-3 both produced great images on the macbook (and 8x10 prints). When I moved to the 5k, I found out I kinda' suck. The upside is I have slowed down. I really think about what things are going to look like on the bigger, sharper screen before I push the shutter release.

If you don't mind the death sentence from Cupertino, Aperture is great. It is slower than Light Room on the same machine, but decidedly easier to use. The organization is far more intuitive. Having said all of that, I moved to Light Room. Utility and ongoing development trumped ease of use.

If you go the PC route, give Raw Therapee a look. I use it at work (technical photos). It gives remarkable results on my "just good enough" PC.

I use the FA 50mm 2.8 Macro on a K-50 at work. It's a very good lens and very cheap.

I bought my K-50 with the two lens kit. The 18-55 and a DA 50 live in my work bag and get used regularly. The 50-200 that came with the kit is around here, somewhere, I think. If I had it do over, I would skip the longer zoom in favor of one of the cheap primes. A kit zoom and cheap prime is also a great way to find out what you prefer shoot.

I found this exact thing with the 35ltd. I used the develop process from the K-50 on the K-3 and got very different results. Both are great, just different.

I use my K-50 at work. Does that count? If the product belonged to me I could make a very tedious gallery of wiring harnesses and radio cabinets.

K-3 DA Prime "Go-To" Lens?

I'm not a veteran - more of a hack with a hobby. The DA 35 2.8 ltd macro makes me look like I know what I'm doing more than any other lens. Maybe it's a personal thing, but it is the only lens I didn't have to "learn." Add in the very cool option of macro with a normal perspective and you have a winner. The green band version is well within your budget.

My K-3 doesn't like the DA 50 1.8 (soft, hunts, etc...). I know the lens is good, the K-50 loves it. Having said that, I am certain I could program around the dislike. All other issues with the K-3 have been on my side of the view finder.

K3 DFA 100 mm f 2.8 Macro WR (normally the 35 ltd macro lives on this body, but there were bees on the porch yesterday)
K50 DA 50 f 1.8 (this is the car/work camera - the two DAL kit lenses are in the bag with it as well)
MX SMC 50 1.4
KX SMC 120 2.8

We got a Nexstar 5 SE for Christmas. It holds the K-3 without issue. We have been playing with it and the 1 1/4" adapters. The direct to T is on the way. We will probably slap the K-50 on it when we go out. I want to try some wide field with the 3. In short, the mount (same as the 4) has no problem handling a much heavier camera. With a smaller OTA, you may need to adjust the balance point, but the mount shouldn't be a problem.
