I was a bit intimidated at first to try this but the laughing gulls in Florida took the food with surgical precision without nipping my fingers. At 18mm they were much closer than the picture shows.---charliezap

Congratulations to noelcmn & JimZ for their podium places and GrimWolf & normhead for the HM's!
Thank you scomatic (and noelcmn!) for the kind words on my picture - I was indeed lucky with this shot.
I would like to say another big thank you to scomatic for hosting 52-7! You come up with great example pictures, descriptions and tips for every topic, week after week. I really appreciate that!

Once again fabulous images to inspire us Scomatic. That first one I am familiar with-Morkel Erusmus is a well known photographer around here.

I've got one a while back very cheap and I did a, sorry I don't know how its called in English, called Blendenreihe in german.
This was just a small test and I have never done this before and I am also new to photography.
I would say my lens gives good results one number after F4. I dont know the exact F numbers so I put a questionmark there.
I will do more images when I have time. |

Same as above, I have some sunsets... taken in the window, but was away on a trip away from cell phone or wifi. But I got a few in the required time frame. |

It seems nobody is entering anything...
Well, I captured this expression of my youngest son, while failing the basket, playing basketball with his brothers and cousins yesterday afternoon.

I've shot this selfie last night, it's not a candid shot, but I guess could fit the theme. :) Bring me a light by mtux, on Flickr
You can read the poem behind the shot in flickr, I didn't include it here as this challenge is about the gesture not the story behind it? :D

Dynamite images so far by all. Tess, both dog shots are terrific but I think the latter of the two is best based on composition. Here is one from me. It was tough to capture a balance in the lighting due to the extremes and sharpness on the ship in an ocean port where everything is always moving (even slightly when calm).

With no fireplace, no woodstove, no fire-pit outdoors (and three feet of snow on the ground), I had to look inside for inspiration. This is the result... Light My Fire Pentax K-5IIs, DA 18-55 AL II kit lens, f/16, 30 seconds, ISO 80, tripod, and a Swedish Light My Fire fire steel repeatedly struck in the protection of my kitchen sink with the lights out. |

Well, if you want the truth, I just drew straws  Not really!
I've had others ask how my picture was shot, and while the technique is simple, explaining it is not. I also thought it would be interesting to see what others could come up with, so I started a thread on Photoelasticity Birefringence in the Mini-Challenges area. Here's the specific post link. And here's the picture Scomatic's asking about, in case you missed it: |

Here is the wildest colors in a photo I've shot this week.
Well, I'm doing the single in Feb challenge with Kiron 28mm f/2 and doing it in black and white, so that's part of the reason for not much color. :D
And this was shot with K-3 and Kiron 28/2, in a Sculpture garden I found in KL. An Orange sunset by mtux, on Flickr

Oh com'n Patrick- you don't want to start 2015 being on Noel's enemy list. I'll get you back.... in 2016 :) I can't believe this, Did'nt think I stood a chance with all those fabulous shots! I am honored, thank you Patrick, and all the lovely comments from everyone else! And there I was all excited and waiting for Scomatic to deposit the first challenge for 2015, and now I can't participate. And it's my birthday tomorrow. Life's not fair, when you get unexpected, albeit nice birthday surprises like this! OK enough ranting and raving. Congrats Scomatic and RollsUp. I thought yours had it in the bag RollsUp. I like that photo so much!

Shot this tonight for this challenge, during my night adventure with tripod in KLCC park.
intentionally exposed one and a half stop over what my camera thought is correct, and that was still 1 stop over what was correct. but then, the result was satisfying to me right at the back of camera. ;)
