If they go AF then predict a discontinuation of K mount support

Excellent shot. Doesn't get any better.
What camera/lens combo?

You are going to have a really hard time hand holding a 560-600 mm lens on crop sensor on your target (a moving bird). Any little movement and it's going to go out of frame. Add in the fact that 2 TCs will make your AF unreliable and you pretty much won't get most shots. Plus the shutter speed required to handhold such a lens will increase you ISO perhaps beyond acceptable levels since you are already at f8 wide open.
In my opinion 400ishmm at 5.6 is the reasonable limit for walk around bird photography. Even then you should use a monopod or tripod when possible.
The bottom line is you are trying to have your cake and eat it too. It just doesn't work.

All shot with Nikon D610, Tamron 150-600 SP. Some with a monopod, some with a tripod, some handheld. |

Canon EF 35 F/2 Production dates: 1990-2012. 22 years. Replaced only once by the EF 35 F/2 IS USM.
One of the major upgrades was the IS, which Pentax doesn't need to upgrade to get...
FA 35 F/2 Production dates: 1999-present. 17 years so far. Likely to be replaced in the next year or two by the "wide angle prime" on the road map.
The new DC motors are fast, within hundredths of a second of Canon and Nikon. Plenty of Pentax lenses with low dispersion elements- though these aren't an end-all-be-all, especially in shorter focal lengths where they are less necessary and can ruin bokeh quality. Many Pentax lenses have 9 aperture blades, newer ones are rounded.
So no Pentax can keep refreshing as often on some lenses, and they don't offer many lenses. But hardly are we in the dark age. Do your homework before you post this crap next time.

All of these taken in about an hour this morning. I guess the migrations are starting. Critique if you see something I could do better.

Not exactly the forte of this lens.... but pixel shift at ISO 5000, F/4, 30s. Converted to B&W because the colors weren't great... |

Only if the lens was originally offered in k mount. Otherwise they dont have the parts to do it.

Then I guess my reaction becomes "why bother with this lens". I'd rather it be 105/ 1.8 or 2 and have round bokeh... just me

A few animals from the zoo. Many shots between ISO 2000-4000. The high ISO hold up pretty well on these larger subjects (i.e. not the little bird I normally shoot). I don't normally like the black and white with one color left but I liked in this case on big kitty. |

Your argument isnt logical. There are no "wildlife cameras". And nobody is making you buy a 500mm lens with your 35mm lens.
There are deticated video cameras, and until recently it wasnt possible to use one device for both video and still picture.
When we buy cameras now we are forced to buy a video camera with it, unlike that 500mm lens nobody is making you buy.

If you really need something now i would look at the DA* 55 1.4. Its a nice lens by all accounts though perhaps not still not the best out there.
Otherwise wait to see what pentax puts out. Like Adam, I expect new pentax lenses in the pro price range will perform exceptionally well.

Actually I feel the same way. I have other lenses for when I need them. But somehow I see the world at 300mm (450mm equiv.).
About a month ago I took my 300 off to put on my 15mm for a landscape shot.... literally at that moment a juvenile bald eagle flew over and I missed it (luckily I got the grown one behind it).... so sometimes its just not worth it to take it off :o

"Worth it" and "nessisary to get the shot" are different things. Youve asked two different questions in my opinion.
It is a different format and can achieve a different look if thats what you mean.
If its worth it depends on person and the goals and a bunch of other factors.
