I have receipts from the late film days (2003-2008) ranging from 5-9 dollars a roll. Prices for development have climbed higher and higher as the amount of film being shot has dwindled.

Tamron 150-600 For Pentax

I'm talking about initial focus l lock. There is really no contest. The ild sdm jist doesnt keep up- at any focal length. Especially with the use of a focus limiter. Most of the other stuff is body dependant and im talking about lenses.

Im not saying the DA* 300 is bad or unusable for fast subjects- I photos to show it can be. But initial focus lock is slower.

I would think this is right.

Shorter actually. Because people wouldn't be justifying the need or lack there of for it existing in K mount.

I just got the tamron 150-600 original and D610- the AF leaves the DA*300 in the dust. If you can use the focus limiter, its pretty swift. Hope to test it out better this weekend.

24 vs 36 megapixels isnt really a problem for the 150-600 type lenses. The truth is they cant resolve all 24 megapixels so spending more on 36 is a waste. Unless you are shooting a 500 or 600 f4 primes, I wouldnt concern myself with the megapixel difference.

K3II + DA*300/1.4HDTC to D700 + 150-600?

Actually the d600 might be the ticket. Nikon has made good on fixing the dust problem even on out of warrantee cameras.

K3II + DA*300/1.4HDTC to D700 + 150-600?

Ive been debating if this trade would be worth it. Ive changed brands before- Im not a brand loyalist so please don't go there.

Pros for the current K-3II/DA*300/1.4TC setup:
24MP
Weight
size
dynamic range at low ISO
sharpness at low ISO (debatable perhaps)
8.3FPS without a grip (D700 is 5fps without/7 with grip)

Pros for the D700 +150-600
AF system-tracking especially
ISO performance, especially in the 400-1600 range which is useful for birds/ wildlife
Tamron and Sigma 150-600 lenses have faster AF, and focus limiters
stabilization will be in lens- so you can see it in the viewfinder- helpful for tracking
image quality in the ISO400+ range

This would be an entire system change. Wildlife is my focus and I can make everything else work around this. I don't have the money for a D610, DF, D800 etc. I have ruled out the D600 due to the sensor oil issues. Canon's 5D, 5DII, and 6D offer me no gains in AF performance.

I would life to get back to full frame (shot film for years). I like the bigger view finder. I still think of focal lengths in terms of 35mm equivalence. The K-1 is a nice camera, but its too expensive for me and don't think it offers any real advantages without affordable long lenses (i.e. not the 150-450).

My main concern is the 12MP sensor in the D700 for cropping bird shots. I shot a 12MP Rebel XSI- but I wasn't into bird photography at the time so the MP were never an issue. Is the 12MP a deal breaker? or are the quality of the pixels going to make up for it? I routinely print 8*10, 11*14, and sometimes 16*20.

I dont necessarily disagree with any of this. Your orginal post sounded to me kike you were saying the 150-600 type lenses would be the best lenses of the type in k mount. All I was saying is there are better lenses- albeit at great cost.

1- there are plenty of examples from that combo if you bother to search. Its a very capable combination. The best? No, but still ver good.

2. That's the most ignorant statement I've heard in a while. While you are looking up the DA*300 plus TC photos, perhaps you can also look up the FA*600/4, DA560/5.6, sigma 500/4.6, FA* 250-600/5.6... The 150-600 and 50-500 dont even compete.

I notice you didn't repond to the schooling I gave you earlier about 35mm production dates. But here you are blabbing about nothing again.

The DA* 55/1.4 is the most recent 50ish mm Pentax prime. It has 9 rounded aperture blade, and yes it works on full frame.

Again, no Pentax hasn't updated everything as quickly as we would like. But they are getting around to it- you will see that soon when the new DFA primes come out. Recent Pentax lenses are every bit a match for the competition.

If you don't like Pentax offerings, then move on. But quit accusing us of being ignorant. I've shot Canon before coming to Pentax- USM, STM, L lenses, etc. Im well aware of Pentax weaknesses.

I expect they might milk it another year. The K-3II is hard to touch in other brands at the same price.

Sure a D500 or 7DII might be better in some areas (sports), but look at the price difference ($850 vs $1500-2000)

Return of the FA 35/2

Canon EF 35 F/2 Production dates: 1990-2012. 22 years. Replaced only once by the EF 35 F/2 IS USM.
One of the major upgrades was the IS, which Pentax doesn't need to upgrade to get...

FA 35 F/2 Production dates: 1999-present. 17 years so far. Likely to be replaced in the next year or two by the "wide angle prime" on the road map.

The new DC motors are fast, within hundredths of a second of Canon and Nikon. Plenty of Pentax lenses with low dispersion elements- though these aren't an end-all-be-all, especially in shorter focal lengths where they are less necessary and can ruin bokeh quality. Many Pentax lenses have 9 aperture blades, newer ones are rounded.

So no Pentax can keep refreshing as often on some lenses, and they don't offer many lenses. But hardly are we in the dark age. Do your homework before you post this crap next time.

The 150-450 is the most convenient choice. The 600/4 is going to give the best results.
