I like the least saturdated one best, and I wonder if it might be best in B&W - give it a sort of timeless look, with the scythe. The more you saturate the colours, the more I notice the fancy neoprene waders the guy is wearing. There looks to be ample contrast; going B&W would emphasize the curves and patterns.

But that's just me, and I've hardly been around of late, and shooting very little, so maybe I'm not a good person to be weighing in! Take it as you will. :)

They look fine at screen resolution, for sure. What scanner are you using? And what sort of settings? I have an el-cheapo flatbed with a slide carrier, but I've never been happy with the results. These look great to me!

#2 and #1 - I find the first city bypass one a bit too contrasty. The distortion of the car in the second gives a sense of motion, surprisingly without drawing my eye out of the frame. I like the glimpse of the chair in the next room in the first foyer version, it looks quite inviting, as opposed to the patio doors in the second, which just invite you to go back out! Also like the tree shadow better in the first, not sure why.

The Latest vs My Activity makes no sense to me
Posted By foxglove

I've been away from the forum for a bit, so maybe I missed something, if so, disregard this. Things have been reorganized, and these new links way up in the upper right make no sense to me. Surely "My Activity" should take me to the threads I've been participating in, while "The Latest" should be all of the recently active threads throughout the forum. But if I want to see activity in the threads I've been following, I click on "The Latest", and if I want to see all the recent threads, I click "My Activity". What gives? Is it just me, or is this backwards?

Edit:
Oooops! Sorry, just realised there were a bunch of new scripts on the site that ScriptBlocker didn't like. I think perhaps I'll find the behaviour makes more sense with them allowed...

Additional edit:
Yup, things work fine now. Whatever yahooapis is, it needs to be allowed...

K1000 durability

I was travelling, and had stuck my K1000 with 50mm lens in a side pocket of my big, heavy pack. Like a moron, I forgot about it and handed my pack to a bus driver. Just as I realised my mistake and turned to get the camera out, he hurled the pack into the luggage compartment under the bus, and I watched as it arced gracefully along and came down directly on that side pocket, all 50 lb or so of pack. "Oh well, so much for that camera," I thought. Not so - once I got the lens cap detached from the filter it was jammed into, it was fine. Heck, even the lens, which obviously took the brunt of the blow, was fine! Haven't used the K1000 much lately, but the lens is fine.

And there's something very confusing about the geometry in your photo. How'd you do that?? The bike is suspended on something, but I don't see how it can be hanging on the fence, given the shadows... or else that's a very odd fence. Clever, however you did it.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here... but how do I not get updates from a social group that I belong to? Only one group delivers them, and I can't see what's different about it. My inbox is overflowing with updates and I need them to stop! Thanks.

What a wonderful northern sky. I like that you caught the light flashing. I disagree with Adam (sorry, Adam!), I think it's fine, and rather appropriate that the structure is sort of lost in the gorgeous landscape, only its intense light drawing your eye to it.

Very cool - great shots! It looks like a member of the order Homoptera (or Hemiptera, depending on whose taxonomy you follow), possibly an aphid. They often produce these waxy filaments, apparently for protection against predators. That's an impressive display it's produced! Nicely captured, too.

I know nothing about FastStone, but all the rest sounds reasonable. I hope bumping the ISO helps! I can't imagine why your images would be so noisy.

Congratulations! I suspect Fingertips didn't make ppg because of the distracting bright white and blue in the background. The butterfly seems rather dully lit by comparison. It also seems a little soft, but that may be due to downsizing. But a lovely butterfly just the same!

On the other hand, I think you could really make something of the first one. Have you considered cropping out all of the oof pot and whatnot on the left? You might also crop out some of the background on the right to get rid of those bright spots. Maybe crop a little on the bottom as well - it's a K20, you've got lots of pixels to work with, right? ;) I think the contrast of bright blue butterfly with the rusted bench is lovely, and the cropping would put the butterfly in the lower left third, balanced by the post in the upper right third. Or I might be full of it... ;)

Technically imperfect or not, the blurred wings are very cool. Well done on all!

Love the pose in the second. You got it bang on - focus, exposure and composition. I'd have chopped off an antenna or something! Great colour contrast between beetle and background, too. Nice work!

I'd try higher ISO and avoid underexposing - I think you'd get a lot less noise. It may also have something to do with how you're resizing and/or sharpening your photos. I've occasionally introduced more noise during pp, and had to do things a little differently to avoid it. Are you shooting RAW? That gives you a lot more headroom to correct underexposure.

Those look awfully noisy for ISO 400. Were they extremely under-exposed or something? I don't get noise like that on my K100D even at ISO 1600.

Pretty butterflies, though!

Question tabbing from username to password fields on login

This is probably (a) a stupid question and (b) excessively picky, but... I'm accustomed to clicking in the username box, typing my username, hitting tab, and typing my password. All of a sudden, that doesn't work - tabbing once appears to go to the "remember me" box, and I have to tab twice to get to the password box. I know, I know, so hit tab twice... but I don't get why it changed. I'm typing my username and password every time precisely because I don't want to be remembered... so it's annoying to have to tab past that option. Any chance it can go back to the way it was?

Very pretty! I particularly like the first, you nailed the focus in just the right spot. The overcast has given you nice even light, I think. Too bad about the breeze, but you seem to have frozen any motion just fine. Neat view on a common ditch plant.
