I just downloaded the firmware update for my K-3. I copied the bin file as instructed onto a reformatted sd card. Loaded it into my camera, turned the camera on while holding down the menu button as instructed. The LCD showed firmware version to be updated and I was instructed, using the four-way controller to click on start. Immediately it began flashing on my LCD screen " Now Loading". The instructions said that at the end of the uploading a message complete would appear on the LCD screen. Okay so while it is loading I went back to working on my computer and when I turned to check on the loading process the LCD screen is black. So if the word complete showed up I missed it. My question is did it upload? Is it safe to turn the camera off and check to see if the firmware uploaded correctly? It says do not turn off until complete. By the way I had two fully charged batteries in the camera. John

I contacted Tamron and they e-mailed me that they were not making the 150-600mm for Pentax at this time. That doesn't mean they won't if enough people contact them about it. Here is a link to a YouTube video of the Tamron 150-600 performance by professional photographer Tony Northrup. Tony puts this lens to the test with great results.

I owned a Q and gave it away. Enough of these small pocket cameras already. Pentax needs to stop playing catch up with Canon, Nikon, and Sony, and invest product funds into longer range lenses, and a full frame camera. I shot the K-3 this weekend at the Missouri State Fair and I am here to tell you the shutter speed is fast, much faster than my Nikon D7100. Okay so what do I want for this rig? I want a lens comparable to Canon's 100-400mm or Nikons 80-400mm in an f/4-f/5.6 range and I could even live with the same pricing as these two. Although the Canon is cheaper than Nikon. In my opinion Pentax could challenge these two giants if they had a more aggressive Product Development and Marketing Teams. I learned on the Pentax K-10. I have owned the K-10, K-20, and K-7. Sold them all and switched to Nikon because of full frame and greater lens selection for wildlife. I recently added to my gear the K-5iis and K-3. The K-3 basically for its fast shutter speed and 24 mega-pixel sensor. Just my thoughts.

No they are not making a Tamron 150-600mm Lens for Pentax at least that is what they told me from a recent e-mail I sent them. BUT, they should and what we need is for Pentax Forums to lobby them for this lens in a Pentax mount. This lens is getting great reviews and this would be a nice lens for Pentax users. There is a rumor that Pentax has on their timeline for this year a 150-450 or maybe a 150-550 but at what cost. Yes I know that Sigma makes a 150-500mm for Pentax and I might consider that. What are your thoughts?

Hello everyone. I am not new to this sight but returning after a long absence. I started out with Pentax K-10, K-20, Q, and K7, but added the Nikon D700 and D7000 as well as the Canon 7D. Eventually I sold off all my Pentax equipment and the Canon 7D to concentrate on one brand. At the time Pentax was just not offering lenses for wildlife and sports action to my liking. Last year I purchased the Pentax K-5lls and just recently added the Pentax K-3, taking advantage of the great buys on the K-3 by B&H Photo. Just got it today. I hope this will be the year that Pentax comes out with some telephoto lenses to match the Nikon/Canon 70-200 f/2.8 and the Canon 100-400. My current gear is the Nikon D600, D7100, Nikon D7000-Infrared and Canon 2ti-Infrared, Pentax K-5lls and K-3. There are positive and negative things about every brand out there and I like diversity. I maintain multiply galleries, Smugmug, Photium, Flickr, and 500PIX.
