Hmmmm, I don't have any odd stories, but simply a story of how I became a Pentax fan 5 years ago.

Well, I have always noticed that no matter how well the images are, many people do not want to give Pentax the praise it deserves. In addition, to remain competitive, Pentax has to come up w/ products that are on the cutting edge of technology. For some reason, they keep lagging behind...and even if they do it "first," the competition will come behind and do that same tech their way and receive the higher praise for their version.

That review was all, "it's a great camera, but..." Hey, I just say, keep churning out great images which no one can argue against. That's what keeps them quiet.

Availability of Pentax in Local USA Camera Stores

I have to admit, it's all about advertising/marketing! My first dSLR was an *istDL and it performed quite well. After a couple of years to date, I sold that and upgraded to the K200D. WOW...much better! However, it's hard convincing others of the great quality you will get from Pentax cameras-- the technology, the weatherproofing, the cost-comparison....all these you will get from this manufacturer.

I can tell you guys from first hand knowledge, I work in a camera store and Pentax tends to sit on the shelf collecting dust. When people come in and don't know which camera to go for and have about $500-$800 to spend, I try to point them to Pentax, and not because I am partial, but because for cameras in that price point it beats them. Unfortunately, Pentax doesn't really market themselves, so when these folks come in, they've already "heard" that Nik/Can have the best DSLRs. I literally put the DSLRs side by side and make comparisons. If they still are not convinced, I pull out my weapon: printed images I've done with the K10D, the *istDL, and the K200D. AT THAT VERY MOMENT, THEY ARE LIKE -WOW- . Only at that point can I seal the deal because they have proof that the camera is on par or better in some respects than their comparably priced competitors.

SO, Pentax needs to do commercials, more print ads and whatever to "get the word out" on how fabulous and cost conservative their products are. It's only then will we see more demand for Pentax.

Jesus people, a DSLR is meant for taking pictures and a video camera is meant for shooting video. This video mode on the Noink D90 is just to lure more n00bs from the compact realm and force them to buy expensive lenses and accessories.

I know it's inevitable (video mode on DSLRs) because the market demands it but PLEASE Pentax, make a camera for photographers, not toys for children. The K10D was and still is a perfect tool for taking pics it just needs a shutter and AF upgrade, we don't ask for anything more.[/QUOTE]

Thank YOU for saying that!!! DSLRs are for photography. Use a P&S for clips of the babies and holidays! My K200D will only be for creating great photographs and I love it. It runs circles around Nik's D60/D40x and Can's XTI/XT. The XSI is a decent camera, just feels like a toy out of a cereal box, though.

Pentax has to stay marketable and keep up or hold on to it's fan base. It's a business, guys, so they will do what needs to be done.

I have to tell you, I went to the store and played around with both the K10D and the K200D, and quite frankly, they are both the same except for a few issues..and please correct me anyone if I miss on these general points:
1- K10 is heavier
2- K10 has dedicated buttons for dbl exposure, metering, LED light to read top panel, proprietary battery, 32 custom functions

For me, I purchased the K200D because I got a great deal on it (w/ battery grip, sling bag and warranty) and most of the operations were the same except for the dedicated buttons for dbl expo and metering. Other than that, they are almost the same camera--except for the weight factor. I've had the K200 for about 3-4 weeks now and I love it. I had the *istDL, but needed more MP and auto-focus points and K200 very quick in focusing.

The custom white balance function is amazing. The colors were so accurate!
