thanks a lot, the optical view is a big factor for many shooters, i do more and more aqua-scaping these days so static object via optical view is indeed growing for me too :D ---------- Post added 09-23-23 at 12:37 PM ----------
your A9 must be a beast in fast moving shootings, it's built for that purpose so no doubt it creates more than good results :D ergonomic is still a strong point for Pentax, they have arguably the best ergonomic (plus super easy to use dials and menu) in the market for a long time imho. ---------- Post added 09-23-23 at 12:40 PM ----------
agree, i'm surprise with the K3 AF in live view, it's super fast and even recognize 2 faces which i didn't expect at all, the weak point is the old screw drive motor can't keep up with that speed and go bruuuuuu :D still, i manage to capture some good moments with them :D ---------- Post added 09-23-23 at 12:44 PM ----------
Sony has a place in my heart for sure, they are the only player that push innovation toward mirrorless (eye-AF and 4k video:D) and absolutely change the game, now Canon and Nikon rush out to match and steal their market share. if i ever go back to mirrorless it will be a Sony. ---------- Post added 09-23-23 at 12:45 PM ----------
holy molly, if the new K1 can match Sony's AF... i can only dream about that :D

thanks man, point and shoot with a full frame and eye-AF give a totally different kind of satisfaction but you are right about legacy tech is fun in another way, at one point i even think about film camera, a whole new level can of worms (tons of film type with different iso/color profile, film scanner or darkroom equipment...) :D photography is an expensive hobby no matter where i look! if only we had unlimited budget life would be so easy :D

I was a Pentaxian about a decade ago (damn time flies). Pentax was my first not point-shoot camera, a K5. Got upgrade to a K3 not long after that and was happy with the result. But the temptation of Eye-AF rises day after day and eat my soul inside out =)) I couldn't resist, i was weak, i sold my K3 (but not the Limited lens) for $350 and bought a Sony A7 III with a 85mm f1.8 and good lord the experience was mind blowing, i mainly shoot portrait so Eye-AF was a heavenly gift, and full frame... It was like riding a bicycle and then move to a Kawasaki Ninja, everything just in focus, never again a miss focus or struggle with fast moving subject. All eyes are tack sharp and the professional full frame becomes a point and shoot again. Life was easy.
But if it was too easy it wouldn't last long. Covid struck so no more outside shooting, no more moving subject, no body moves, total lockdown for almost 2 years =)) and the Sony kit has to go, and i didn't loose a cent when i sold the Sony combo. Damn, Sony was a good investment. But now that i'm poor and couldn't afford another Sony A7iii i got to turn back to the Limited lens and look for a K3 again (wanted a K1 but it's not cheap) for ..guess how much.... $150. Yes, i bought a K3 for half the price i sold mine, damn Pentax loose value fast =))) And the reason I didn't sell my Limited lens because...guess why...they offer half the price of which i bought them for =)))
One more thing, phone camera become more and more capable and the computational power of phone's chip is getting ridiculous, i even thought about ditching all the lens for a new Xiaomi phone with Leica lens but i give the good old Limited lens a chance and i think i won't be selling them anytime soon now that i'm back. Even though the phone's camera is good they can't beat physic, the bokeh is always fake, the subtle luminous value is totally different. Imagine phone camera has like 3 luminous value: black, grey, white and a K3 gives like 30 freaking luminous value so all the subtle color change and 3d effect are back again (because color change smoothly and subtly from light to dark and not "flatten").
So all in all I'm back and rocking a K3 again, below is a photo i a recently took with K3 and the good old 31mm :D
How about you guys? Anyone come back after a Sony Fullframe ultra fast Eye AF?

oh no, the hi-end video is another dream Pentax will never achieve but Sony cannot lose that, it's a freaking god tier feature on Sony cameras (beside eyeAF), their ergonomics is good i had a A7iii and it is very solid (a bit lighter than my k3 but not a toy-like at all), maybe eyeAF can only be done with mirrorless so it's also a far away dream for Pentax :(

i don't need anything fancy, just make the AF as good as Sony eye-AF and that's all i need, everything else is good already :D

i used only DA15mm, FA31mm, FA77mm on my K3 and never need anything else, it works for Apsc as a 3 lens combo from street to portrait ;)

Hi, I try my lovely DA 15mm f4 on a a7iii via an adapter, the problem is DA 15 doesn't have an aperture ring so the lens is always at smallest aperture (close all the way down). Anyone has the same issue and know how to fix it, I want to shoot it wide open (f4) !
Thanks a lot !

Increase the exposure does help the model pop :) another way is to use 2 accent lights (or reflectors) to add some light to the edge of her dress to separate it from the dark background.
The model, the pose and the overall image quality is already very good though :)

Because they can benefit from the shorter flange to improve the lens design, ex: Canon RF 70-200 is smaller and sharper, the RF 24-70 f2 has wider aperture.... and of course new mount lenses will generate more profit for new milc system ;) ---------- Post added 04-04-20 at 09:15 AM ----------
if Pentax/Ricoh can make a good adapter for the new system people will be very happy as we all have lots of K-mount lenses and we stay because of the lenses ! Not sure if it will make profit for the new system but certainly buy more time for Pentax to build new lenses !

The EVF issue will be less and less important, peole can use smartphone (~60Hz) then they can use Evf/Liveview and I myself prefer the liveview for bigger screen, longer eye-screen distance.
Milc will be cheaper as they are mainly electronic parts and those parts are getting cheaper and cheaper (see the cheap 100$-200$ smartphone market righht now).
People from Canikon will jump ship (not changing brand but to Milc) and the market will be flooded with second hand flagship (Canon 5D series, Nikon 8xx series) at cheap price, Pentax will have a hard time competing with those when releasing a new Dslr (even worse if it's an Apsc one).
Ricoh/Pentax will have to think of a plan to deal with this new change !

Maybe not Pentax but Ricoh will release the next FF mirrorless, Gr3 already has many things done right for the milc (egornomic, AF, touch screen...), Pentax can help with the lens design or Pentax/Ricoh can join the L mount club and fill the low-price body slot that Sigma/Leica/Panasonic are not interested in.

Pentax may offer the low price body for the club, Sigma is all about making lens, Panasonic is video, Leica is...I dont know...marketing ?
As people already notice, the Gr3 is a good mirrorless and with touch screen too ! I think Ricoh is considering the option, maybe even negotiating right now 🤔

Milc has many advantages :
- Super fast and accurate AF (no front/back focus)
- Eye AF
- Correct exposure (what you see is what you get)
- Less moving parts (less point of failure)
- Bigger focus area
- Better tracking
- No blackout when shooting multiple frames
- Cheaper to produce (may leads to cheaper price in the long run)
.....
Leica is mirrorless now and has to team up with sigma & panasonic to compete with other players.
