This is an old, old Chinese grave along the river. It is not a cemetary, and this is one of only 3 graves. It elicits all kinds of philosophical thoughts about life, death, life after death.

Great picture even though not taken with a Pentax -- maybe I should add that is an attempt at being humorous?

Chiangmai Thailand Annual Flower Parade every February. Of course all the participants have to gather early and then sit around and wait for everyone else to show up. And, lo and behold, someone they didn't expect but were happy to see showed up also.

I have been working happily with my K3 since 2014 until this summer when one of my photo buddies felt compelled to ask me why I over processed all the photos I sent out for critique. I didn't think that was the case but, after another friend agreed, I started investigating. I realized my HP 2509 that I bought in 2009 was failing and even maximizing the built in monitor adjustments didn't help. Because he had one and liked it and because it was the only 4K monitor available here in Thailand, I got a BenQ PD3200U 4K monitor. WOW, it was great to find out that my Pentax K3 was back to producing great shots right out of the camera once again.

Sukhothai, literally "Dawn of Happiness", capital of the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries in what is now Northern Thailand. It is located near the modern city of Sukhothai, capital of the province with the same name.

Chiangmai, Thailand; 14 April 2016
His parents made him become a Buddhist student (Nen) for 2 weeks which requires sleeping in a strange place with strangers, getting up at o'dark 30, learning Buddhist prayers, sitting rigidly and chanting, and then walking the streets barefooted getting food donations for breakfast. He obviously wishes he were home with mom and dad and siblings.
EDIT: entered wrong lens; should have been Sigma 28mm lens not 18-250mm

Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.
Nathaniel Hawthorne
This was an attempt to capture the sense that not only life is transitory but also death. I was mentally captured by the crumbling vault with its broken back, the vibrant yet dead leaves, and the desolate, unkempt, forgotten grave yard. Who knows who was buried here or when?
I was just wandering along a river bank looking for anything to photograph and found this forgotten site. This composition is intentional to let me capture what I wanted. The leaves are somewhat saturated by intent. And the crop cut out some distracting visual clutter at the top.

All 3 shots in the city of Chiangmai, Thailand, using a Sigma 18mm-250mm f3.5 - f6.3. Shooting upward at the temple hanging, I wanted a fast shutter speed because I know I am not always that steady. Plus I am still learning when I can successfully use higher ISO's, so I purposefully use the 3200 ISO. The construction shot is one of 6 continuous shots of this one swing. The fisherman in the last shot came out just OK; can not remember why I used f6.3 with the 250mm shot at that distance, but I did...... and I will admit to some Lightroom processing on all 3.

Sometimes I seem to get the settings correct (when I take the time to think), but usually need to do post processing when I quickly take shots of opportunity.
Bangkok building cleaner. Sigma 18mm-250mm @ 180mm; 1/400 @ F8, ISO 1600, no processing other than RAW to JPG.
Migrant construction worker in Bangkok. Sigma 18mm-250mm @ 148mm; 1/80 @ F9, ISO 200, took some time in Lightroom 5.6 to get this..... and not particularly happy with it even now.

Using the K-3 as a test bed, I resurrected my 10 year old 18-55mm kit lens and took the shot of this lady full length. I did not like the result, so I cropped to about 1/9 th for just a portrait style. Because of the lighting at this provincial fair, I admit to doing a bit of processing in Lightroom 5 and removing luminance noise, moving to Perfect Photo Suite 8 for a bit of touch up, and then back to LR to export it as a jpg. Wanting to insure focus then, I selected the f6.3. I now see I used a smaller aperture than was really necessary and, had I opened it up some, could have lowered the ISO and cut down on the noise. NEXT TIME.

I guess I have to ask..... because I just bought the K-3 and am forced to use the Digital Camera Utility program that came with the camera until I get home to my Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 12.
I have my camera set to save RAW files as DNGs. Are any of you saying LR 5 will not recognize these files?
I have had no problems with DNG files out of my K-10 for the last 7 years of using Lightroom and Photoshop.

MTKang -- could you explain in more detail what you mean by "IN CAMERA SETTINGS" (what settings?) and identify what S/W will not read them? My memory says LR & PS show all the same EXIF data I see showing up in Digital Camera Utility for DNG RAW files.
I use the S/W but only just started to use it this month (away from home on vacation) because I bought a new K-3 and it came with it and I have nothing else to use. Maybe I do not know how to use it properly or fully, but I find it only adequate as a sample of what I expect to be able to do when I get back home next month and go back to Lightroom and PS.
