Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm curious about this comment. @FozzFoster, would you care to elaborate? I've never heard that there were any manual inputs possible, and I'm trying to figure out how to make Astrotracer work more reliably. Thanks!

I just used pulled up LR and filtered all images by K-3II and 17-70mm lens. Based on a quick evaluation, I'd say it's definitely a front-focus issue. Every time the photo is blurred, the background is even more blurry, which leads me to believe that it was focusing slightly in front of the subject. Next to use a tripod and focus chart to double-check...

That's a good question, and one that I began to think of as I made this post. :) I'll have to do some more "scientific" testing, and see if I can identify any patterns.
Thanks!

No, I had forgotten about that one! :) This is the 17-70mm f/2.8-4 HSM version that I've had for years. It's a non OS version. I usually keep my battery close to full, but I haven't noticed any differences whether the battery was fully charged or low.
Good question about other lenses... I don't recall any particular issues with other lenses. I've used my 400mm and 50mm several times with it, and didn't notice anything particularly strange, but that only represents probably 5-10% of real-life usage, so I might have overlooked something. My 17-70mm is on the camera 90% of the time.

I've been a happy Pentax user for many years now, and recently acquired a K-3II to replace my aging K-5II. I love the new camera, (had to get used to the different back-button AF location though), but there's one problem that kinda bugs me....
My K-5II and my Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 HSM Macro lens got along wonderfully; photos were tack sharp, AF was snappy, etc... I expected if anything that my new K-3II would do even better, seeing as it has improved AF from the K-5 series. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. I shot a wedding with the K-3II and Sigma combo shortly after acquiring my new camera, and was quite disappointed that a rather high percentage of the shots turned out slightly out-of-focus! :( I've noticed since then as well that the K-3II and 17-70mm combo just struggles to lock focus. Often it'll "focus" but when I enlarge the photo I see that it's slightly OOF. That's not to say that it's incapable of focusing. Some shots are spot on! But there are enough that aren't that it rather concerns me!
Any ideas what could be the problem, and what I can do to fix it? I have another potential wedding gig coming up, and I'd like to be more confident in my camera.
Thanks in advance!

That one looks like the APO version, unless I'm mistaken. Mine is the non APO version. They do look quite similar though!

I've got a Sigma 400mm lens with virtually no identifying info about it. A fellow forum member here asked me to post a user review for it, but I'm not sure which page to post it on! :o Here are 3 pages for similar lenses, but none of the product photos match the one I have. Sigma (AF and MF) 400mm F5.6 APO v2, 1988 Sigma / Carl Zeiss Jena (AF and MF) 400mm F5.6 IF MC multicoated Sigma 400mm F5.6 APO (AF) v3: 1995 >
Is it better just to post my review under one that already has some reviews, or would it be better to "Add a New Lens" into the database and upload some proper identifying photos? Mine is not APO, so I guess that rules out 2 of the above links, but neither does it look like any of the photos in the 3rd link...
Here are a few photos of my lens.
Here's the only identifying documentation that I have for it (apart from the markings on the lens itself).
Any advice would be appreciated!

Any links to actual solutions where I can buy it would be appreciated. I've seen various "adapters" mentioned in this thread, but I don't know exactly what is being referred to, or where to buy it. Thanks in advance! :)

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I just realized that my new K-3II won't mount any of my YN-560III or IV flashes... :( Has anyone found a cheap adapter solution, or am I better off getting another flash, like the YN-585 EX? It doesn't look like the 585 can work as a master for radio control, so that's a bit of a bummer. Should I invest in a radio controller instead? I'm open to any ideas, cause I have a big photoshoot coming up in a bit over a month, and I need to get my ducks in a row before then. :)

Can you confirm whether this will mount on a K-3ii? Just got my shiny new K-3ii only to realize that my YN-560 III & IV flashes won't mount on it. :( So now I need something that WILL mount...

Somehow my attachments got "messed up" when I was creating a new Marketplace ad, and the wrong photo got set as the official thumbnail for the post. How do I go about changing it? :(
I did find this thread about changing the thumbnail, but after following the instructions, the thumbnail remains the same, even with a hard refresh and viewing in a Private Browsing window. Any suggestions?

I have had the very same issue with my K-5iis! It is quite annoying, and looks rather funny when the photographer is just standing there holding the camera and it starts shooting all on its own... :hmm:
I meant to ask about it some time here on the forums, but never got around to it. Are there any threads about it anywhere on the forums?
In my case, it also messes with the focus. Sometimes when the mirror "flops" spontaneously, it totally messes up the focus, and it seems like the AF won't work right away to focus it again. Turning the camera on and off doesn't seem to help any, but it eventually quits on its own.

I have Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer both, (as well as LR) and I love them! I have never had the cash to pay for Photoshop, so I can't compare them, but I can tell you that Affinity is worlds ahead of GIMP (which used to be my go-to software.) :)
Like @mattb123, I mostly just use AF Photo for stuff that LR doesn't do so well. I use AF Designer for graphics work. (It would be the competitor for Adobe's InDesign).
Never tried the focus-stack feature, but I do like its panorama stitcher. It "just works" without any fiddling with settings, and creates good looking results without any visible stitching artifacts.

I don't have a camera that shoots PS photos, but I just saw recently that the free RAW processing software RawTherapee officially supports Pentax Pixel Shift photos. I'm sure some of the other members here can tell you more about it.

Thanks, @dcshooter, I bought it used, so I seriously doubt it's under warranty. From a quick search on the forums, it seems that this is not an uncommon problem with 17-50/70 zoom lenses. Has anyone ever successfully repaired one?

Hey guys, I've got a nice Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 lens that is still almost like new. All of a sudden, the zoom ring just turns all the way around, and doesn't "zoom" any more. If you shake it gently, you can hear a rattle inside, like a screw came out or something. :(
If I knew there was a chance that I could fix it, I would try my hand at taking it apart, but I've never taken an AF lens apart before. Do you think there's anything I can do for it?
