I really like this photo.
I like the pops of different colours in the background; they work really well with the colour of the car.
I like the composition here as well.
Great job!

K-5IIs - OMG

I have recently returned from a conference where I was the photographer for the event using the K-5 IIs. Whilst the camera hasn't revolutionised the shooting experience or my results (nor did I expect that) but I can say that its low light focusing is reliably accurate and greatly more speedy where it is most needed in the indoor concert/event setting. Sharpness is as I would have expected - crisper at low ISO than the K-5 classic, but the benefits aren't much to speak of with ISOs higher than 800 or so. In any case, the K-5 IIs is a top camera, without doubt one of the best APS-C cameras available.

BREAKING NEWS: Flickr Just Gave Everyone One Free Terabyte of Space!

I will give them a little time to iron out the bugs, but overall I'm not happy. At first glance, the photostream looks nice. But I really don't like how all the photos are jumbled up together. Give us a bit of white space! It is confusing to the eye, IMO.

I don't like how I have to go into Edit view or click each photo individually to see how many views or favorites a photo has. That info used to be readily available.

The comments section under each photo is a mess. Who wants to see only the last four comments and have to keep clicking links to "view more comments" over and over? That is asinine.

The exif info is now gone from the photo page. You have to click to another page to view exif. Having that info readily available was one of their "newer" features that I really liked. Now it's gone.

Ipernity does look intriguing. Problem is, I have so many photos and friends on Flickr I really have invested a lot in it. I do not have the bandwidth or desire to upload all those photos some place else. If I move, it will just have to be a fresh start from this point on. It would be a real shame. Hopefully, they'll listen to the more constructive feedback and make some changes that will improve the site without making it quite so garish and hard to navigate.

Is the K-5 IIs dangerous...

Exactly! I've used the K5IIs for over 2 weeks, took a few hundred photos, mostly people photos, and all those people had clothes on. I've never seen even one photo ruined by moire.

However, moire can be easily fixed in a current PP software. But you cannot get back the original RAW data if it's not there from AA bodies. For 16x24 prints, 5IIs should be a better choice.

Merry Christmas! What did you get/give?

Great thread. Heie, it sounds like your Christmas is working out very nicely, and will last a long time!

My daughter is doing semi-pro portrait photography, and has set up a nice studio in her house. She uses a K200D, so I gave her a BG3 grip for it (bought from a fellow forum member, thank you very much!). She likes how it feels in the hand for portrait format pictures.

Merry Christmas to All!

K5IIs No Moire, but false color?

One of the trees in the Canon shot has the same blue bark effect. On your first shot above it looks like the source of the blue light was from the right side of the camera, and on the second shot it was more behind the camera. I'd bet on the carousel with blue lights.
When there are monochromatic light sources around all bets are off on digital. Here are a couple of K-5 throw-away shots from a roller rink so dark the viewfinder was useless - but I think they illustrate the same thing. The blue lights on the skaters really surprized me, because they did not look vivid when seen live. The camera must be very sensitive to blue light.

K5IIs No Moire, but false color?

I threw your sample in LR4 and using a combination of chromatic aberration and blue desaturation it seemed to take care of most of it. I saved it in the attachment to this post. Hope you don't mind...

Looks like the blue sign in the background is now white though :p Maybe I should have used the brush tool to desaturate the blue on the trees and that would have left the sign alone...

K5IIs No Moire, but false color?

I agree with the assessment of mixed lighting. Taking outdoor shots at twilight or night is a real chore, where there is incandescent, florescent, mercury vapor, sodium vapor, LED lighting, etc.

Anyhow, the blue color has nothing to do with the lack of AA filter in your IIs model. The "false color" you are referring to, shows up where you have moire patterns. I don't see any moire in your photos. Just wanted to make it clear that this would probably happen with the K-5 II as well. I have some indoor K-5 shots that exhibit this.

The sharpness is actually quite a bit betteer than the K-5, I have seen some comparisons which show way more sharpness on the 5iis, from my shots with my iis it is unbelievably sharp and I have just past 5k shots, 0 moire.

K-30 Battery Life, what are you getting ??

When I had the K-r and AA adapter (and the K-30 uses the same battery and AA adapter) which AA batteries you used was a BIG factor. I stuck with either Energizer Lithiums as my failsafe backup in the bag, or more commonly the Eneloops. Which ones do you want #s on because, as I said, it made a big difference in the K-r and I can't see how it would be that different with the K-30?

New K-01 mirrorless camera coming

That's really cool.

The resolution issues were never really a big problem for EVFs (in the sense that, it's always improving). The biggest drawback related to OVF is the lack of dynamic range (constrast ratio) of LED screen, which hinders EVFs from being used with too little or too much light. That screen looks much better in this respect.

Pentax is in a great position to release a mirrorless camera because, as long as EVFs keep improving, they have experience on all the other things that make sense to put in a mirrorless:

- Tradition in releasing smaller bodies with great ergonomics
- High-quality primes and compact zooms
- In-body sensor image stabilization
- Rugged and weatherproof bodies (which can be made much more rugged by taking away the mirror)
- Legacy of great lenses (which are a perfect match for EVF, since they can be big, preview DOF correctly and even having electronic assitance for manual focus)

Not to mention that mirrorless is a new market, were a smaller player can play a much bigger role. I hope K-01 is a step in this direction.
