Is the k511s too much camera for the 16-45 abd the 55-300?

I have the 55-300 & I've recently upgraded to the K5IIs. I've noticed much better performance on the long end handheld than I ever had on the K200. A slow lens on a faster sharper camera is still going to work better than a slow lens on a slow camera.

Just checked my K5IIs. It's the same sound. I never gave it a second thought because it's so much quieter on startup than my K200 or K-r.

I am using LR4. Thanks, I hadn't thought to try the CA adjustment, I just tried the WB. I'll give it a try.

Tom,
Thanks for taking the time to have a look & showing me your photos. Except for the Canon shot mentioned above, no one from the group has posted a photo of those trees that isn't B&W.

To everyone who commented thanks. I'm convinced this would have happened with any camera so I won't be ditching my IIs.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. Dan, no problem with color rendition outside. I generally like the cooler white balance, maybe in this situation it just made the issue that was already there more pronounced. This was a photoshoot I went on with other Flickr members. I did notice one shot of the same scene from a Canon 5D MKII which did not have the purple trees, but was overall very yellowish gold & not what my eye saw while standing there.
Here is her shot for comparison sake http://www.flickr.com/photos/traciehowe/8269229038/ - I can't say I like the WB in it , but she did manage to minimize the blue trees although if I look closely I can still see a little.
I'm starting to be convinced this is probably not an "s" problem.

I'm not sure about a black light, but there was a carousel nearby with mostly light blue lights on it.

I recently went out shooting holiday lights with my K5IIs. In the photos below you can see the brown tree trunks all look bright bluish purple. This showed up on the lcd screen right away. I took several shots because I've never had this happen before. I'v also had some less dramatic, but strange results with color with this camera. I do love that it's crazy sharp, but color is important to me & I'm now wondering if this is a lack of AA filter problem if B&H will exchange for a K5II.
I'm by no means a technical expert & I did read the one thread I found about false color just last night (a little too late). I think if I had known this in advance I would have gone for the K5II. Any thought or opinions you have about what caused this I if you believe there is something I could have done to prevent it would be appreciated. Would a K5II do this as well or do I need to see if it's possible to exchange?

I would love to add a couple more key lenses to my Pentax collection, but not at the prices I see lately. I would love to see more people get on board with Pentax, but people need a reasonable path to build their system.

Reviews really missed the mark on Kr AWB in tungsten light

Having recently purchased a new Kr to complement my K200D I was very pleasantly surprised after reading several reviews about the Kr before my purchase. Many of the reviewers said that the Kr's AWB performance in tungsten light was very poor & the orange cast was bad. Having been used to correcting this in post from my K200, my expectations were not high. Apparently the reviewers did not dig deep enough into the menu system where the Kr has a setting to adjust the AWB correction for tungsten to either a low (default) setting or to a high setting. I chose the high setting and have had amazing results. The Kr on that setting in my experience nails the WB every time and I have not had to do any further adjustments. To anyone thinking of purchasing a Kr, you can safely ignore that part of any review you read and to any owners who have not yet discovered this setting I say give it a try.

Looks like they listed 5 more today. I bought one for the same price 2 days ago when it said 2 were sold & 3 were left. I paid thru PayPal & they emailed me right away. As of yesterday I have a UPS tracking # & as of this morning it says my package is en route!
This is also my first time w/Prodigital - so far so good.

Poll: How do you focus?

I keep it on select focus point, so that I always have the option to switch quickly. That said I use the center point & recompose with most shots, except very shallow dof macro where recomposing can throw it off just enough, with that type of shot I find being able to select the point really helpful.

K200D shutter auto firing

Given the wide range of tolerances different batteries have, I think they've most likely struck the best balance they could given the limits of current technology. Maybe in the next camera they'll put in more sophisticated battery sensors, and a menu option for the battery type...

Thanks Quension for the clarification. Now that you mention it I've owned cameras before that allow you to choose the battery type in a menu. Seems like that would be a good option.
In the meantime since I'll be changing batteries 3/4 of the way down, I'm trying Powerex 2700 rechargables instead of the Lithiums I was using before. I've taken about 300 shots and the indicator still says they're full, pretty good results so far.

Have not had any further response from Pentax about this, they didn't respond to the web form I sent including a link to this thread. It is only the K200D as far as I know that does this. The guy at Pentax I spoke to over the phone did say that although he hadn't heard of this specific problem, he had heard of other K200 malfunctions when the battery gets below 1/4 power left. He therefore recommends that whether you use lithiums or rechargables that you watch your battery gauge like the gas gauge in your car and just change them when they get 3/4 down.
Seems to me like they should just do a firmware update where the camera quits working a little sooner so that the batteries don't get depleted enough to cause malfunctions.
