The difference is the F-Stop ring goes down to 2.8 verses 3.5. I got some new pictures, they are below. This definitely looks like someone joined two lenses together as there are screws along the outside just below the F Ring. See first picture |

I finally got a video sent to me of the lens. It is truly a Sigma lens. The lens ring says F3.5-4 Zoom. The lens diameter is 35MM and it is the -y 1 version. However the F stop ring shows 22 - 2.8, so I do wonder if someone make a Frankenstein lens. The lens is located about 60 miles from me, so I am trying to decide if it is worth driving to see it or not.

Here is the first picture I have.
Can't confirm that it is a Sigma, but the zoom and F stop are clear to see.

I have the opportunity to purchase a Sigma 21-35 F2.8 lens. I checked the lens database here as well as on the Sigma forum and this lens isn't listed. I have asked the seller to confirm that the lens is truly a Sigma and they assure me that it is. The only picture I have from them shows that it is a Pentax K mount. The aperture ring shows 2.8 F stop, but I can't see the highest level. It also shows the zoom range of 21 to 35. I have asked for more pictures.
Does anyone here know if Sigma actually made a 21-35 F2.8 lens. I think the lens size is a 72mm, but that is only a guess because the picture showed a Tiffen filter next to the lens and it was a 72mm filter.
Any help would be appreciated.

Nice pictures. Appears to be either Zion near the top of the Narrows, Kolob area of Zion or some where out on the Escalante or Snow Canyon. Am I correct? As others said, you probably won't see much difference with these types of shots. Its when you get into more challenging needs, then the additional capabilities of the Pentax will become apparent.

Not at all like HDR. HDR takes three (typically) pictures of the same thing one over exposed, one under exposed, and one "correctly" exposed then combines to correctly bringout all of the areas of the picture. Normally this method is used early in the morning, late in the evening or a night scene where there is some strong light on one portion of the picture and the rest is darker. Superimposing images is where you take a picture of one thing, then take a picture of another so one is imposed over the other. One of my favorite such pictures happened by mistake. I didn't realize I had this turned on and took a picture out of our front window. The previous picture had been of me and my wife standing together. The end result was a picture of our front yard with me and my wife almost looking like ghosts watching over our property.

Thanks everyone. I finally finagled that lens off my K-3. It is now in pieces. (It wasn't worth more than 5 dollars on Flea Bay). There wasn't enough space to even insert a thin feeler gauge but the switching on and off of the MF/AF switch and jiggling it seemed to done the trick. But it did take trying two or three days on and off.

I mounted a PK lens on my K-3. I have mounted it before and had not issues, now it is stuck with that dreaded Ricoh pin. It is a cheap 80 -200 off brand lens that i grabbed by mistake instead of a similar looking Pentax 200 prime I have.
How do I get it off. I have tried taking it apart and getting into the barrel, but I can't get get to the pin. The lens is worthless and don't care about it. But I do want to save my K-3. Any suggestions?

I know this isn't Pentax related, but I had to comment on the "de-barking" of your shelties. I have a rescue Weimeraner that had his vocal cords cut. We got him when he was 7 he is now nearly 9. He is in great shape, but with one very bad habit. He thinks he has to protect us from all other dogs. Since he doesn't bark and doesn't growl, other dogs come up to him while on his leash with us walking him. We try and keep them away, but if they show even the least sign of aggressiveness i.e. jumps up, runs at us quickly etc, he attacks. There is no warning, no growl, nothing. He is not afraid of any dog, and has taking on dogs twice his size. We are certain that if he could vocalize, that most of these issues wouldn't happen. The previous own also doc'd his tail. So it is had to tell if it wagging in a friendly manner or a warning being only 3 inches long. He is not aggressive to humans, but cats, rabbits, and small dogs are just game to him. Other dogs are to be driven away because they are on his territory. We tried to socialize him at a dog park. The first two days were fine. He ran and played with every dog, small and large. Then one dog 20 - 30 pounds bigger and off of his leash, attacked our dog while he was still on his leash. In two seconds, he had the other dog down and was ripping his face apart. Luckily I was able to pull him off of the other dog in about 3 seconds, but the other dog needed stitches to repair his cheek. Everyone at the park agreed my dog was just defending himself. Now it is hit an miss whether he will play or not. So he no longer gets to go to dog parks, but only on walks on a leash.
Don't cut your dog's vocal cords. It makes it doubly hard for other dogs and you to socialize them, especially if you dog is one who is breed to protect and hunt.

I've seen similar prices on Craigslist because the seller had no clue on value of products, but this is a camera store. I wonder if they had a new intern do their on-line adverts who mixed the product names and pictures? Clueless

Was there a firmware upgrade to the KP that allowed it to work with the newest version of the 55-300? If not, did you get the right 55-300? I thought the KP was too old to work with the new 55-300 lens.

I recently picked up a SCM-A 200mm F4 lens. Was a little concerned with it's capabilities based upon the lens reviews, but I am pleasantly surprised. I think the main issue with the lens is the long focus throw so it is hard to nail the focus. Not sure if I completely nailed the focus or it is because of the distance. These pelicans were diving about 200 yards out. Enjoy

I was out walking the dog this morning and I had two thoughts come to me. I'm not technical to figure these out, so I thought I would ask the readers here.
First thought. For those of you who know how to repair / build lenses. I have two lenses with the Ricoh pin. They are rounded so they cause no issue for my K-3. What I was wondering if someone could take a broken or cheap PK - A mount and swap it with the Ricoh mount and run some additional wire so the A mount sensor would connect to the A controller on the lens thereby creating a A-mount lens of my Ricoh Pin lenses? If so, is anyone willing to try. I love the color and capabilities of these two lenses and would love to make them an A mount so I can just set the lens to "P" or now "A" and not have to push the green button all the time.
Second thought. I picked up a ME Super body, great shape, but I don't shoot film anymore. I love the ME's focusing screen verses my K-3's. Anyway of swapping the screen instead of paying almost $200 for a Katz'eye focusing screen? If so, how would I do it?

I am looking for some experts to weigh in on this, but I'm not sure this is fungus as much as it is pitting of the coatings or even just very dirty and scratched. I thought fungus appeared more as a string instead of dots. I had a lens similar and after cleaning the front and back lenses with lens cleaner, over 80% of the pits / spots where gone. I haven't seen any come back either.

Luckily my 500 is a 500 prime with a screw mount. Not even sure of the manufacturer. My brother gave it to me years ago as a Christmas gift. Can't say I have found a need for it that much as it is too big just to walk around or hiking.

HI Lightbox, does your barrel wobble also i.e. move left to right or up and down slightly. When fully extended, I think there is about a 1/32" sideways movement

I have the Pentax 18 - 135 WR Zoom that came with my K-3 that I purchased new a few years ago. I had to send the lens back for repairs because it was experiencing lens creep. A few weeks ago, It started to creep again. Now the entire front barrel wobbles. Any clue on how much that will cost to fix. It will still auto focus and seems to take decent pictures, but I haven't done any pixel peeping. I have noticed that if I push the barrel it will have to refocus, but it will do so. Then if I let the barrel go, it will lean slightly down and go out of focus, until I reset the focus.
I haven't noticed this before, so I assume that the lens needs to be fixed, but perhaps this is normal and I haven't noticed it before. Also, where is the best place to send the lens to get it fixed. I live in California in case that helps.

Why switch now. You have most of the latest equipment. You know that what ever you sell your stuff for, including free to me (LOL), it will cost more going to Canon or Nikon. Why not wait a year or two or five? When your current equipment no longer meets your needs and assuming Pentax/Ricoh doesn't have anything that can fill that need, then jump. But you have stated that as of right now, your Pentax gear meets your needs. Unless you have money to spend and you don't mind starting over. Then send me your gear. I know I could be happy with it for a few more years anyway.

I got the grip off. The screws are tight, but the slots they run in are too wide. I think this is going to be a trash item. I have two other lenses that cover the same range so it isn't needed. It would even cost more to mail it than what someone can pick up a similar product at a flea market or on Craigslist.
