Problem with the 50-135mm DA*

Hi, a while ago, shortly after Christmas my 50-135 would not auto focus, but manual focus was fine. I tried taking the lens off a couple of times and that didn't work. I got out a q-tip and some alcohol and cleaned the contacts on both the camera and the lens and it has worked fine ever since.

Been to a few Dylan concerts and they pat you down at the door for indoor concerts. After my mini tape recorder got confiscated they did let me have it back at the end of the show. Bob doesn't like getting his picture taken and security is always looking to bust someone.

M lens and the K200d

I have the k200d and use m series lenses all the time, it's easy.

1 custom settings # 23 set to 2(permitted)
2 turn camera off
3 mount lens
4 turn camera on when it starts it will ask for the focal length of the lens.

If you are in manual mode set your aperture to what you want it, then to meter press the green button it will approximate the exposure then take your pic.

I'm not sure how aperture priority mode works I don't use it.

Hope that helps

Just bought a DA 50-135--flash help, and returning lenses

Hi all, I just decided to get the 50-135 sdm(Sonic Death Monkey-Jack Blacks band briefly in High Fidelity) it should be here tomorrow. For now it will be paired with my k200d and kit 18-55.

I bought and returned the Tamron 28-75 2.8 because I thought it would suit my style and serve dual purpose as a walk around and portrait lens but it just wasn't for me. I found it to heavy for a walk around and my manual 50 prime I like better for portraits. The Tamron did have a slight ff issue as noted by others on the board.

My flash question. I am a complete beginner when it come to studio photography but I want to set up a small one at home for family pics. I have been researching lighting on the web and came across some instructional videos by the OPUS company link here-

OPUS - Support Videos

They have a two light kit the OPL-M1002 which seems to be what I need.

I don't plan on buying the kit however, just copying it, I plan on getting one monolight and just using a pentax 360 for the front flash. Does that seem reasonable? I haven't purchased any lighting equipment but I do want to get a shoe mount flash and the 360 is in my budget range.

Any other flash suggestions?

PS I have visited the strobist website

k200d from amazon

Hi I bought my k200d from amazon about 3 weeks ago and I got the new lens.

Amazon stocks thier products by an ASIN number and I can confirm(I just checked the site) that it is the ASIN is the same as when I bought it-ASIN: B0012Q72IY. I just looked at my packing reciept. So you should get the new lens.

Just to clear things up a little- you get the kit in one factory pentax box with a lens and the camera in it. Amazon isn't selling you a lens and a body and shipping them out. Mine came in a single pentax box labeled k200d and 18-55 al II.

Help with versitile lens purchase

Thanks everyone for the input.

I was hoping that I could just buy one lens instead of two even if I had to spend a little more. It looks like I'll be getting on for the outdoor events, kids sports etc and wildlife and one for the indoor events.

I tried the kit lens indoors at graduation and quickly realized I needed a faster and longer lens. My long term plans are to save up for a fast zoom and my short term, now that it's summer is to buy a slower outdoor zoom.

've been looking at the lenses that everyone has suggested and price wise i've narrowed it down to the sub 200.00 lenses. Sigma 70-300, Pentax DA 50-200, and tamron 70-300. Are there any others I should consider. The performance of the sigma and tamron, eventhough they are lonnger seem to put them in the 200 range.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I guess the problem I've been trying to solve is that if I buy say a da50-200 which seems to be enough zoom for the outdoor activities, it won't be fast enough for the indoor low light shots will it. Has anyone use this indoors at say a play or concert recital? When the only light is coming from the stage. Is it possible to use 4-5.6 and if so how?
Most of the zooms around the sub 200.00 price are at that speed. I've got a fast 50mm prime but I generally need more zoom.

Thanks

I am looking at buying a new lens and I was hoping I could get some recommendations and advice. I have a k200d with the 18-55 II lens but although I'm happy with what it can do, it's also limiting.

Can I get a single lens that can do all of these things well, or passable- indoor sports and school events(plays, ceremonies, concerts), outdoor sports events, wildlife(bird photo).

I've searched the forums and I couldn't find a lens for all.

I don't need professional quality just family album type shots.

Any suggestions would be great from $bare min, to mid to top of the line.

Thanks Paul

K200d First Impressions and Snaps

Hi, I have had my k200d with the 18-55 lens for about a week now and I thought I would share some thoughts.

Background, I am new to dslr cameras. My first camera was a k1000, which I still have and am very happy with. So when it came time to upgrade I looked for something from pentax.

I got my camera from amazon, I ordered it on thursday afternoon and got it friday. The reason I chose amazon-shipping. What is great about Amazon is before you place your order they will tell you a ship date and a delivery date. Other sites I looked at were vague. You could request shipping speed 1 day, 3 day, etc, but the ship date was usually, "orders are processed in 1-2 business days."

The camera has almost infinite adjustments, I have been continually reading the manual, and I find something I didn't know.

The auto picture mode does a super job. For anyone scared of entering the dslr ring because they feel intimidated don't be. Just set the camera to auto and point and shoot. I will say I use the auto about 75% of the time. Which is what is great about the k200d, as my experience grows that percentage will come down.

Another go to mode is the no flash, which is just like the auto mode but without flash.

Thoughts on the burst mode. The 4 frame buffer seems fine for me. I thought about it and when a car speeds by, or your child in sports speeds or anything else passed your field of view, it is only in front of you for a brief time anyway.

I am not plugging the site I am buying a k200d after researching dslr cameras for the last week. I came to the forum after searching the web for reviews on the site and couldn't find any. I want to thank joefru for the heads up and will be getting it the camera elsewhere.

BTW if I was as BBear implies, "doing ads for a suspicious retailer." Would I put in my original post, "Has anybody ordered from them? Should I look elsewhere. "

Photo Dynasty has the kit cheap 559.00. I am buying a k200d kit and this is the cheapest by far that I have seen. Has anybody ordered from them? Should I look elsewhere.
