For me, it's "go big or go home". The slower and more compact alternatives are already there in the from of FA Limiteds.
Historically Pentax has been very conservative with wide-aperture lenses, so hopefully they change that up a bit with the K-1. If not, then you're probably right about the F1.8 :)

You have camera gear, you have money, we want it. Expect this to get worse. If you argue it will end up costing more. There are pensions to pay.

I'm not sure how this Quote: Filming and Photography permit applications will generally be approved provided that the requested activities: Unacceptable impacts are impacts that, individually or cumulatively, would: - be inconsistent with a park's purposes or values, or
- impede the attainment of a park's desired future conditions for natural and cultural resources as identified through the park's planning process, or
- create an unsafe or unhealthful environment for visitors or employees, or
- diminish opportunities for current or future generations to enjoy, learn about, or be inspired by park resources or values, or
- unreasonably interfere with:
- park programs or activities, or
- an appropriate use, or
- other atmosphere of peace and tranquility, or the natural soundscape maintained in historic or commemorative locations within the park, or
- NPS concessioner or contractor operations or services.
can be legal. The other stuff, sure, because that's not violating speech. But to say "We don't like this photography style" on federal land seems to be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. My limited knowledge of case law says that they can require a permit but they cannot deny one because they don't like what you'll be saying. In fact, the permit *must* be granted. Obviously no one has challenged this law.
But whatever. After 9/11, liberty went in the toilet. And no one cared. ---------- Post added 02-28-16 at 10:20 AM ----------
I had to buy one as an amateur. Basically, anything other than cell phone counts as permit requiring.

I'll spare the latest stories but what is with the open hostility toward photographers in general? I'm not even talking about street or candid stuff but the number of bad encounters I've had has been steadily increasing in density.
Public parks now require permits to take photographs of people you brought with you (not candid!). At event conventions, where there's thousands of people taking photos of each other, the surrounding areas that benefit from having full parking lots and entirely booked hotel rooms shuffle people taking photos out. And it seems to be all about the SLR, which apparently security believes no one but pros own. It feels like if you're not using your phone to take photos, you must be up to no good. Security is always rude, hostile, and power tripping. I haven't yet had a positive encounter with private security, which usually just come up and say "You can't do that" without telling me what "that" is. Is it that location? The use of flash? Photos at all?
Was it always this way or is it recent? It's like all these places are terrified of someone making a few bucks (which I don't) or ending up on social media.

I am not a reviewer. Additionally, it's hard to judge ISO, IQ, AF... after a few minutes of playing inside the local store. I think professional reviewers will post their articles soon. Generally, the body and buttons feel very good on my hands. Live View AF and Face Detection are fast. Many local Pentax users wanted to buy it immediately, but we must wait.

Set the camera to use the battery in the grip first and then you can pretty much change out the grip battery and the body battery is there just as a safety measure.

I like your second way of using the grip battery to keep the camera battery topped up; but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You have to remove the grip to change the camera battery.
MikeSF's idea is a good approach that approximates the idea of the grip battery topping up the camera battery. His posting happened while I was typing my initial response.

The K-1 would probably be better. You'll notice a big improvement, especially in terms of resolution and probably also in terms of color accuracy and noise in the sky. FF shines for wide-angle / standard applications while crop is mainly better telephoto, due to its compactness.
What lenses are you using?
Also, don't worry- we'll be sure to post plenty of K-3 comparisons when we do our in-depth review of the camera :)

Is Ricoh Imaging looking to enhance it's support services beyond Precision Camera Repair in the US?
If no, are they aware of all the reported issues with Precision Camera Repair with Pentax repairs?
What can we expect to see in the future for Pentax as a brand?
Will there be any new items with the APS-C system this year? 645 system? Q?

Why not the K-3II? Only $250 more for new. Seems like a prudent investment if it's your livelihood; am I missing something?

Norm has a good selection but if you want just zooms you can't go wrong (except for SDM) with the 16-50 and 50-135.

Any feature or function I want is potentially Jaw dropping.
Any feature or function I have no use for is boring however clever.
i,e in-built GPS, Pixel Shift boring
virtual AA filter impressive
unable to disable horizontal SR whilst Panning ludicrous when everyone else has gone auto switch of in direction of pan and even the 3rd parties offer at least on axis off (Sigma Mode 2)
Some one at Pentax needs to prioitize function/feature based on applicability to basic photography Vs gimmick or limited use

According to Merriam-Webster: flagship:- the ship that carries the commander of a fleet or subdivision of a fleet and flies the commander's flag
- the finest, largest, or most important one of a series, network, or chain
By (2), K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5, K-3, and K-3II are Pentax's flagship DSLRs. Note that "flagship" and "pro-consumer" are NOT mutually exclusive. The question "such and such is flagship or pro-consumer" is meaningless.
Having said that, who cares whether they are flagships, who even care D7000 or D500 is Nikon's flagship. If you like a camera, buy it; if you don't like it, don't buy it. Why getting hung up on semantics?

complain complain complain some only know how to complain...they want pentax do everything nikon and canon but at half price....that's why most people didn't buy ff camera and lenses from canon....it was money....now that pentax come out with a good proposal at very good price...the 24-70 cost less than half....they complain cause the kit zoom lens is shorter...they not even consider that probably the canikon 24-120 cost double....they want all at half price....
i expect big rant for lens af even price... ---------- Post added 02-15-2016 at 09:49 AM ---------- by the way nobody consider the huge advantage of in camera pixel shifting....or sensor adjustment composition (something that is so good to mimic a cube head from arca and something you can't do with a ball head only...so you save some good money).....or 5 axes stabilization ....i'm sure the only thing people will tell
- af ois not on par with canikon
-kit lens is slow and short
flash sync not 1/250---
bla bla bla...
stop ranting and go buy the gear you wanted from beginning...a d810....usre it will cost double considering the 24-70 but you will be happy and you will cure your complex of inferiority towards your canikon friend,

I wondered about that, too. I guessed but someone said no. ;). This reads like the spec's of a $2,200 camera, so good. They'll sell a lot of them.
