After using the K-3iii for almost two full sports seasons, I have absolutely no regrets. To capture series like below is a joy for me, and to capture them repeatedly is a bigger joy. Especially when the subject is running toward me. I know after this long now that if i miss it is truly my fault. :)

Thank you! Aside from the 50-135 conversation. he K-3iii has been an absolute joy to use and for what I do fits the bill! I would say the only thing I miss is the screen tilt up/down for overhead shots and shots from the ground. I have found that I do that for quite a few shots.

Definitely something to it. At first I thought it was just a bit better, but the more I used it on the K-3iii the better it would perform.

For me the 50-135 was reserved for portrait and some formal event work. Even then autofocus was dreadful on other bodies. It now is permanently locked on to one of my K-3iii bodies and is used for sports. I can't wait until football season to use it as a secondary to the DA*300 or maybe I'll get the 150-450 before then...i've been looking at it at least once a week now. :)

No facemask call...there was a lot to look at in that shot, but the facemask definitely stands out.

thanks!, I have done many high school level sports events and have done 8 football games at college level this season. I still learn in each outing and try new settings each time out. The football team should go deep into the playoffs, so plenty more opportunity.

The new challenge is volleyball, much more difficult than football or basketball since you don't know who is receiving the ball. I'm using the DA*200 and the new 16-50 shooting from four or five areas around the gym. After three matches just starting to get the hang of it, but will have to wait until next year to go at it again.

I've been given field level access to a local D3 college through a sports blog that covers their sports. Below is a link to some photos with the K3iii and DA*300 from this past weekend. I only shot until halftime since I headed over for their volleyball finals.

The K3iii's autofocus doesn't disappoint. I have experienced quite a few where the player is running towards me and it can keep focus with a burst of shots. I'm still learning how it works, but I'm a happy camper.

The wider shots are taken with another K3iii body with the new 16-50. I just acquired it last week and did a basketball game with it last night and it did pretty good.

I took it out yesterday and the haze seems to no longer be there...not sure what happened on the trip, below is an example. Zooming in on the faces and like a slight white filmy haze, not at all sharp, and it seems they all turned out this way. The dust isn't visible in the example, most of the dust it is in the lower part of the scene and at f4, is not obtrusive unless you know its there. I've shot the digitals for quite a few years and this is the first time I've experienced dust on the sensor at least to the degree that I couldn't live with it. Since the hazy substance seems to be gone or at least not able to recreate, I'll try again at removing the dust this week and see where it sits.

Thanks, I'm planning to use it for September, just not feeling quite as acquainted with it I'd like to be. :) btw, the below pic is good example of one of the things I like about its perspective, seems great for this type of image.

With school starting, this month will be busy with moving in a couple of the kiddos and getting them settled over the next couple weeks. It will leave us empty nested during the school year -- mixed emotions about that. Looking to hit SIC September.

Well this month I had time off and we went for a trip. We drove to Iowa to see my wife's family, then to South Dakota Black Hills area. I thought there would be time for posting and such, but we travelled lots of miles and it left little time for more than rest. I've been home for a three days and just now catching up from being gone. Before I went on our trip i noticed some pretty heavy dust on my sensor and long story short I tried blowing it off, which made it worse. Ended up getting the Pentax sensor cleaning kit and what ever residue it left on the sensor made all the images look hazy...ugh. So needless to say all the images from the trip with the 21 suffered from it. I'll try one last effort to clean it and if that doesn't work will have to send it off i guess. Any advice would be appreciated.

The HD 21 Limited doesn't disappoint. The lens is sharp, colors are rendered nice and the out of focus areas create nice subject separation. I also liked the bokeh produced by the lens. I'll probably do another month with it so I can get more comfortable with it.

Nice! I think the closest I've made it was missing one day. :)

Enjoy looking at the images everyone made and seeing those I missed while on the trip...some great takes by everyone!

SIC is new for me as well -- my third month. I have found that I'm most satisfied if I've been able to tackle a few scenes and can select what I like best from them for the day. Sometimes though time only allows for a few shots of one or two scenes. Since I'm home most of the time I run out of creativity to identify new scenes. The scenes are there, but after a while it is hard to look past what has already been identified I guess. Bottom line is the mental exercise is good for me and glad I'm participating. Its a challenge that's hard to stop once you start I think.

I also use the month to test lens capabilities and find what I like or dislike about it. Shooting daily is a good time for me to hone in on some things I have gotten sloppy with, like leveling (when you want it to be level) seems to always be a struggle for me. I also like practicing with settings that I normally would rely on post processing for, like temperature. I figure the more I can get right in the camera, the less I need to do in post. For SIC it isn't too bad post processing a select few images, but when I do other photography where the sets are 500 or more, it really helps if the settings are such that it requires little to no post processing. I will say though, I'm extremely happy with the technical capabilities of our bodies today since it allows for a wide range of post adjustment.

So far the 21 limited isn't disappointing me. Everything I've done has been from home, so I'm looking forward to taking this on our trip next week.

We've had company for the last few days and for a couple more coming up. I've been able to squeeze in some shots, but not able to keep up with commenting etc. Should be back at it soon.

I'll be at this again...HD DA 21 Limited...thanks @Tsuken.
We are going on vacation at the end of July and I'm looking forward to the DA Limited's in my bag for the trip. We aren't quite sure exactly where yet, but leaning towards west US maybe a West Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado loop. I'll post when I can while on the road, but may be late during that week.

HD 40 Limited

It didn't take long to warm up to the focal length. I enjoyed its "semi-normal" perspective and I am happy with the images it produces. It renders colors very nice and is sharp throughout the range. The MFD made it fun to use at close distance where the focal plane can get rather slim. It only took a couple outings to really appreciate its small size and weight.

I was busy yesterday with getting the kiddo ready for his trip. I put fresh battery in the camera in the morning, but didn't even have enough time to pick it up after that. I'll be back in today and catching up on commenting tonight and tomorrow.

Nothing spectacular, but so far finding the 40 Limited to be sharp and render nice colors...and...the MFD is more fun than the 70. :)

Definitely a good idea. I have a mental list, but it is mental and sometimes recalled and sometimes not. I think a written list when the preverbal toilets don't jump out would definitely help.

Its not all bad, just had my 51st last week. Your as old as you let yourself get -- obviously we physically age, but if you keep on keepin' on it helps I think.

One full month was already quite a challenge. I'm wondering if I can make it another without repeats from my little home spot. Weekends are ok since I can go out and about, but M-F I have to rely on something at home or really close. It'll work my brain.

I'll either be in with HD DA 40 Limited or 100 DFA Macro. Most likely the 40. It will be a surprise even for me tomorrow. :)

Well first SIC and it definitely was a challenge. Was fun to see some really exceptional images from everyone else.
I'm was not used to 70mm focal length to walk around with and found myself wanting shots I couldn't achieve. :) Eventually warmed up to it though.
What I notice about the lens is the color rendered is great and you can get a lot of detail. I especially like it at close range where it produces some pretty nice background blur. If the image isn't sharp on subject, it is my fault. I feel I have a great deal to learn about it yet though.
