Well, this is my question...which model should I use in order to get autofocus (screwdrive) and aperture connections between camera-tc-lens?

I don't own any Tc yet

Hi all,
I just purchased a TAMRON 70-200 f2.8 DI LD (ID) MACRO to shoot theater dance with my K-5 II.
Since I'm planning a safari trip this summer, I would like to know if this lens works properly with kenkoo 2x teleconverter. I've read it works somewhere over the Web, and that would maybe avoid me buying a longer lens for the safari..

Cheers

Second curtain sync YN 560tx + YN 560 IV on Pentax k5 II

Well I've always thought that second curtain sync was a camera feature that simply would fire the signal in a different moment, so the transmitter would have as well.. Isn't that the case?

Hi everyone,
I do have a question on the above mentioned flash set.
I've just purchased both the flash and the transmitter (canon version) and everything works smoothly so far.
However, I've tried to sync on the second curtain from the camera menu and that doesn't work. The off camera speed light keeps flashing on the first curtain.
Am I missing something?
On the specific shot I was trying do I solved doing it "backwards" because it was a moving person, but that won't be always the case.
Can I sync on second curtain?

Ok I get that, seems I wasn't so wrong. Smoother transitions means more "points" between two colours, so that's exactly what I meant.
Just for the record, you're saying the retina mac book pro has a wide gamut display???

mmm ok...so does it make sense to use a wide gamut monitor on a mac or not? For what I know of color management, it just means that inside the gamut of the monitor, which is capable of > 1 billion colors, the "sampling net" (i don't know how to translate it better from italian) will have 16.7 million "points" because of my 8bit graphic card. Those point can actually be outside sRGB space, so I will be able to see more colors, so AFAIK it does make sense.
Am i wrong here? I'm really a newbie in color management and digital photography so I could just be saying a lot of bullshits :D
Cheers

From what the Dell site says, they have the very same color gamut. Apart from size and resolution, all other specs should be the same. My output requirements are prints (not in house for now), I don't post on the web. If I will I know I have to use sRGB color space for JPG creation.
At what distance should I look at a 24 or 27 inch monitor?
Thanks for everything

Hey there,
I'm close to move in my new house, and there will finally be room for a new monitor to plug into my macbook for photo editing, and I need some advise to buy it.
For now I shoot RAW+JPG and my workflow ends in cataloguing JPEGs in lightroom, and keeping the RAW files so that I can make a little post processing in the best pics (if i need to) to print them out. I want to learn step by step the post processing and then move definitely to RAW shooting. That being sad, I'm thinking about a wide gamut monitor. I still have to decide among 24 or 27 inch, that'll be budget driven (maybe :D).
So far I found this 2 options, both from DELL (prices in €, I'm from Italy):

DELL U2413 - € 410
DELL U2713H - € 650

Nice features for these two monitors is that they can be hardware calibrated using xRite i1display Pro, which is also on shopping list.

Same class monitors from ASUS a little more expensive (Asus PA249Q - € 495, ASUS PA279Q - € 755)

I've also read a lot about korean 27" displays, such as crossover and yamasaki. Can you advise them? Is there a wide gamut choice among them?
FYI: I own a macbook pro late 2008, so no HDMI nor thunderbolt, just mini Display Port. It sports a nVidia GeForce 9400M + GeForce 9600M GT, if that makes any difference about available resolutions.

Thanks!

If you want to keep "Pentax colors" and all the dynamic range as well to work in Lightroom, that's the only way to do it. The problem is the disk space, a TIFF from my K5 II is getting around 100Mb, and that's the deal breaker for doing this systematically in the workflow. I could do that I want the starting point in lightroom to have the "Pentax colors", but then I would delete the tiff and keep just the final JPG, losing the processing.

I know that, the fact is that for the most of my pictures I just like the way they come out from the camera and I wouldn't do any processing at all, but for the best ones I want to have a part in the processing. That's why last vacation I shot RAW+.
I think it's my definitely my solution at this moment: shooting RAW+ I can use directly the JPEGs and then, during selection and evaluation in Lightroom, if there's any "5-stars" I want to process differently (e.g. simply going to B/W) I have the RAW to work with.
I just need to find the less time consuming workflow for this: right now I'm using XnViewMP for the first fast selection and then importing JPEGs into Lightroom for cataloguing and evaluation. But I'm thinking in investing some money in Photo Mechanic for this first part of the workflow because it integrates flawlessly with LR "stars-wise" so I can speed up the evaluation process as well.
With this workflow I'll have JPEGs ready right away if I don't have any spare time for post processing, and I will try my best to learn PP with just some of the best shots.
What do you think about that?
Any of you using Photo Mechanic? How is your workflow?

Wow, didn't really know about that, thanks for the clarification.

Web sharing is not my main goal, I just want to print my best shots and keep everything else on my drives for the future. I know about LR presets and tried to use them on import. I think I will definitely invest some bucks in the color checker and create my own profiles. On that regard I have a question: how non-sense is using the color checker with a non-calibrated screen? Calibrating tools are really expensive and I don't have any intention in spending that amount of money.
Thanks

I'm not doing any kind of color critical work, I just want my pictures not looking dull as they are if processed with default LR settings.

I tried that one but still isn't quite good as I want it to be. Also tried extracting the profile with Adobe DNG profile editor, the results was different but still not what I want.

sorry for that, I'm used to call it PDCU (Pentax Digital Camera Utility) in an italian pentaxian forum :)
by the way, it IS definitely a pain to use, that's why I'm asking for a solution to use lightroom.

I will think about it, thanks for the tip.

That's what I did last time, but file managing afterwards could get a bit messy if you don't use LR which links the two different files. I'm currently using XnviewMP for the first selection of the pictures because of its speed (it loads the embedded JPG of the RAW file) and I don't know if it can manage RAW+ natively.

---------- Post added 09-22-14 at 11:09 PM ----------

ok that's personal taste :)

I've bought huelight color profiles as well, for 10$ they were worth the try, but they don't really get any close to PDCU processing.

I don't understand that, could you kindly explain it to me? thanks

Hey there,
I'm quite new to this forum, but I've been reading it for a while passively though.
I've owned a pentax for a year now, and right now I'm quite struggling in finding my workflow after shooting my pics.
In this year I shot RAW and then processed my files with Lightroom 5 with a little basic knowledge of it.
I had started shooting raw because of "now I own a DSLR so I'm a professional photographer and I need to shoot raw because it means so much in post processing".:o I'n not that sure about it anymore. I've started realizing how much different my final JPGs were from the ones I saw on the back of the camera and then a flash hit me out of the blue, making me realize that I wasn't really processing my raw in terms of colors, I was just taking in what Adobe had to offer for default.
Ok, that's the purpose of a raw file, you might say. I know it now.
But after a month of different tries I have not come along with something even close to what PDCU is capable to offer.
The fact is that in LR we don't have the presets available that mimic the in camera processing (vivid, portrait, landscape, etc…) such as Canon and Nikon owners have.
Does any of you guys have come to some results within LR or ACR similar to what PDCU is able to offer?

Hello guys,
I'm Marco from Italy and I'm a proud Pentax owner from about a year.
I felt to the need to have a DSLR after a vacation with safari in Kenya
I bought an used K5 II, with just 400 shots on her (that was luck).
Looking forward to participate to some of your contests.
Cheers!
