You'r HP what model is it? Check under it you'll find a sticker with the model number. If it has a HDMI port you should be able to hook a external monitor and have that scale up to 1080p full HD, just remember to set the laptop to mirror the desktop to the secondary screen and "do nothing when lid is closed" and get a external keyboard and mouse to your likening. And when you sit down to PP you hook monitor/keyboard/mouse and close the lid and just use it like a normal desktop PC ;) and check what kind of memory it takes because unless you ordered it/bought it with maximum memory most likely it will have 1 memory slot empty and since it's a HP it's dead easy to add a memory module most likely... But shouldn't it have a empty slot but using 2x2gb memory modules it's still stupid easy to swap those for 2x4gb given it uses DDR3 modules, I'm sure most know of the memory slot underneath you just open a small lid and there you usually have 1 of 2 memory modules but most ppl can't find the second one here's how you find it on most laptops: it's located under the keyboard;) and since you have a HP it shouldn't be to hard to get to it: underneath where all the screws are you'll see 3 (sometimes 4) screws that has a keyboard symbol next to them, unscrew those then flip it over and open the lid and again depending on model look for some small squared bits of plastic around the edges if your model has those just take something thin and stiff like a small screwdriver and try to push them to one side right or left. When you have loosened all of them just lift the keyboard up but remember there's a flat cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard so just lift it enough so you can get to the memory slot ;) if you can't see any small plastic bits around the edge it's abit trickier to loosen the keyboard and you might wanna ask a friend that's done it before to help ;)
All this is ofc if you don't wanna pay for a shop to do it for you. And if it still is under warranty DO NOT do any of the above;)
PS; if it uses DDR3 memory even if the specs say 4gb is maximum most DDR3 motherboards can handle up to 8gb ;)

---------- Post added 09-09-14 at 10:28 AM ----------

Like someone already mentioned only Windows 7/8 64bit version can handle over 3.2gb RAM/memory but almost all newer standard to high-end laptops comes with 64bit ;)

yeah that would work for me but at the same time if i could find a grip that fits acceptable and that uses batteries if the same size or pretty close to the K-50's batteries would be perfect then i could fit my 2 extra batteries in the grip for storage ;)

Batterygrip for k-50?

Hi im about to dump my K-50 that i bought in Febuary mainly becouse there is no batterygrip to be had for it :(
But i figured i should ask one last question here before i do...
what Pentax model that you can get a batterygrip for is most like the K-50 in bottom profile? since i dont care about the extra power or vertical shutter button, i just want a batterygrip for the extension it brings giving the camera a decent grip. As to now in original form i have to "hook in" my right hand pinky underneth the camerabody like it need extra support underneth and i just cant get used to that. ive tried becouse i love the K-50 its awesome for a newbie like me.
so is there a Pentax grip that is similar in profile to the K-50? or any grip from another brand?
since ill open it up and remove the connectors ect and just use the "housing" to attach it for a better grip...
wouldnt mind a grip that uses the same size batteries or as close as possible so i can use the space to house my extra batteries...

hoping for some good news so i can keep my K-50 but if not there will be a prestine K-50 with 18-55mm + 50-200mm WR linses + a bunch of extras for sale here in Sweden ;)

Like most have allready pointed out go for a IPS monitor, but heres a hint for most ppl if you want to get highest pixelcount from any monitor allways use a DVI contact even if the monitor itself has HDMI check if your graficscard has a DVI port and use a DVI to HDMI cable. couse HDMI caps the resolution so goin with DVI from the computer lets you set a noticeable higher/better resolution with helps as we know for working with photos ;)

Earl i can tell you'r sorted in the priority department;) the simple way to look at it is unless you go out and snap away you won't have anything to Use PP on ;) and my tip for the "smaller camera to bring on every day activities" get yourself a K-50 and the 50mm WR and you got a "small" kit that's easy to bring along but still a full blooded DSLR with everything you might want from a camera ;)
Cya in a couple of years :) :) :)

Just posted my entry ;) fingers crossed i sooooo need a new lense and been looking and drooling over the 50/1.8 since my 18-55 Kit lense got wrecked with a big nice crack in the front glass almost exactly 1 month after i bought my K-50 in April :( (stupid retarded most loved dog)
and i got to borrow a Pentax-M 50/2.0 from a friend for a while and yeah im suffering from the Prime Lense Bug now days :/ atm all i got to use on my K-50 is a M42 135/2.8 and im sure most of you knows how much fun it is to try and shot full manual and using optical viewer......NOT :/
so Stevebrot my vote is make your own give-away ;)

Hi im new to both Pentax as a brand and this forum and must say that so far its awesome!!

Now to why i need to win this 50/1.8 Prime lense( i think its called?)
well i bought my K-50 in April with the 18-55 kit lens and in May my retarded (yet lovely) dog (yes the one in my pic) "lost it" as always when we get company and raced around my coutch while i was sitting there fiddeling with my camera and the Kit lense taken off the body and was standing on the table.... And yes you guessed it her tail wacked the lense off the table and on to the floor and ofc it cracked the front glass :( And since im on disability i cant afford a new one atm so im using a Auto Chinon 1:2.8 135mm M42 lense with adaptor that i was given by a friend. i had a Pentax-M 50mm lense on loan but had to give it back and i just loved the 50mm.

the spring clip is off couse it started to act up straight from the start and didnt wanna end up with it coming off inside the housing ;) and no its not suppose to act like that with the flickering not if you belive the manual since that says when set up for optical preview and pressing the RAW/FX+ button all info thats shown normally should turn off so its blank when you try to check your DOF... will try green button later when im changing back to a K-mount, atm with m42 attached it just changes the shutter speed (top left corner next to MF? and it still seems to be setting to a predetermined level depending on what ISO is set to like ISO 400 it sets 1/500 no mater what light is availiable or ISO 1600 gives 1/2000 as value....

---------- Post added 08-22-14 at 06:40 PM ----------

ohh the flickering is actually flickering at a uneven rate more like the button has a small short in it its not a steady blinking like how F-- blinks when you havent set for using aperture ring...

First of I LOVE YOU Not A Number!!:p waiting for you beginners guid into photography with Pentax ;)

and i use a 3rd party copy of the Pentax adapter for my m42 lenses, and my RAW/FX + button is now set for Optical Preview ;)

but atm im try to get a hang of my new Pentax-M zoom 40-80mm macro lense and im thinking hard about wether to keep my K-50 or sell it and get a Canon 7D housing instead...the thing is its my GF thats the real photographer in this house
and shes on a Canon 5D mk II but needs a faster backup like the 7D and since im totaly lost with all this i figured i'd get a 7D that she can use when needed and since im a total noob i might as well learn the Canon meny and i would keep my Pentax-M and m42 lenses to use on the 7D with adapters.... but at the same time im thinking of selling this one and save up the last and get me a K-3 so i can get a battery grip 'couse this small housing is realy starting to bug the hell out of me and i need a external Mic for filming...

---------- Post added 08-22-14 at 08:37 AM ----------

hmm i just mounted a m42 lenses to check out DOF on my RAW/FX button but when i press it the manual says the viewfinder should go empty while pressing the button (for easier view i guess?)
and when i release the button it goes back to normal but when i press the button the info lines at the bottom dont go away it just starts to flicker as long as i'm pressing the button???

Ahh ok that makes sence, but why doesnt it do that when a m42 is on it?
when i use the green button then it just changes my shutter and nothing more...

cant find anything about DOF in the meny but green is set to TVshift and apature ring permitted aka setting 2, and like i said what confuses me is that with a m42 green button does its job(not good but still..) and when i change to my Pentax-M zoom 40-80 macro and not tuching anything besides turning the camera off and on then all of a sudden green button does that DOF digi preview but the sound of it....

Hey ppl heres a new one....im using a K-50 and i love shooting my manual lenses but i just got a SMC Pentax-M 40-80mm 1:2.8-4.0 and when i shoot as always and trying to use the green button it takes a picture but the camera says "this file cant be shown". and after gours and hous reading in this forum i just have to ask for some assistans.....
everything is set as told and when usung m42 lenses the green button does its stuff (altogh everything is almost pitch black due to faulty shutter setting aka the green button)
i dont realy care about that but now this lense takes a picture the cant be seen whats up with that??
