Yes I've tried that, but it only seems to reset general settings, not a full factory reset.

Thanks again for the ideas.
Unfortunately I can't update the firmware, again because of the memory card error.
I've tried three cards, each responding normally on my pc. I also used the sd card formatter recommended on this forum, but still no luck inside the camera.

Thanks for the advice.
I've managed to fix the battery issue, which had more to do with the connectors than the battery itself. After cleaning them with some specialist WD40 and Qtips, the camera's powered just fine.
I am however still stumped on the memory card error. I've tried cleaning the slots, to no effect, but in truth I find it hard to believe both slots would have suddenly stopped working simultaneously due to clutter.
The issue appeared after a malfunction while I was taking a few shots. What I now suspect is that the dirty battery contacts interrupted the power supply while the memory was being accessed/written. Could this have resulted in the systematic memory errors I'm experiencing, and if so how could they be resolved ?

Hi everyone,
I am suddenly having issues with my K-3.
The first has to do with the battery : although it charges fully, the camera would start up and suddenly shut off after a minute or so. I managed to bypass this by using the same battery with the grip.
More problematic however is the SD card not being read ("Memory card error") in either slot, tested with three different cards of different sizes and brands, formatted by different means already recommended on this forum. In camera formatting does not work. I have also noticed that the usual red light blinking upon inserting the card doesn't occur.
Any ideas what may be happening ?

I had a similar issue on a DFA 100mm WR purchased from Amazon (Another Deals Site).
Although not jamming the focus ring was rough and catching in several spots, enough to kill any hopes of manually adjusting the focus on tricky macro shots.
I had it repaired under international warranty and am now fully satisfied. The ring's not as smooth as say the DA 15mm Ltd., but still allows precise manual focusing.
It's a fantastic lens though, worth going through the hassle of repairing/replacing!

I bought a DFA 100mm 2.8 WR macro from Another Deals Site through Amazon earlier this year. It didn't have a warranty card specific to the lens, only a note listing certified repair centers worldwide for the pentax international warranty. This didn't prevent me from having the faulty focus ring repaired in France free of charge, after presenting only a printout of my amazon invoice.

I currently have the account -mHo- on flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/30903347@N05/), where you'll see some photography if you scroll down to older posts. I have been using it for sketches lately, and have decided to create a second account (-mHo- Photo) dedicated to photography.
I was thinking the same thing. In fact, one is heading my way from KEH as we speak :)
A fine idea, when locked up inside. Maybe I'll post some side-by-side comparisons sometime.

Thank you for the welcome!
Yes I'm very satisfied with that mix, and surprisingly compact enough to fit them all in my first small camera bag.
I've been feeling an itch lately for a standard prime (30-40mm)... the FA 31mm ltd. seems an elegant, though expensive, solution.

Hi everyone,
My name is Malek, and I'm finally joining your forum after quite some time hanging around as an observer.
I look forward to sharing my pictures and experiences with you, and perhaps exchanging with those of you in Paris. Photography has been a hobby of mine for ten years now. While I mostly draw/paint in my free time, I find photography to be a useful alternative when in need of a change of perspective.
I currently own a K10D, great performer since 2006 for my needs, with DA 15mm 4.0 ltd, FA 50mm 1.4, and smc D-FA 100mm 2.8 macro WR lenses.
Cheers,
- Malek
