Thanks for the feedback everyone. I took the plunge and invested in a K3 with high hopes I can keep up with this amazing machine. Although, I did purchase a lens from a forum member and it works perfectly. Looking forward to "on the field" research now!

thanks for the feedback guys!
any suggestions for lenses and tripods would be great. Ive posted before and received some decent info then to give some solid ideas to work from.
Currently awaiting an 18-135 wr for my first lens (purchased on the marketplace)
The 35mm macro was the second rec. waiting to find a good used deal here.
The 100mm macro looks great but also searching for some good legacy glass in the market place as well.
Trying to take my time and not rush it.

I was told to post this in a more appropriate section in the forum for better responses. So that's what I did.

My last post put the 3 vs 5iis against each other and since then someone recommended the K-50 with a focus on lens investments.
I'm an entry/ intermediate level photographer, but mostly a visual artist investing in a dslr to document my artwork (mostly pencil, charcoal, ink drawings with varied tones of B&W and others are color). The shots will be used to post to web and some small prints most likely nothing larger than 11 x 14 for at least a few years.
I would also be using this investment for portrait photography to reference from later during the drawing process.
Any thoughts would be very helpful from an outstanding community. Thank you for your time!

Is it worth buying a used cam with no Warranty?
Thinking it might be more cost efficient to just spring for the new cam with an extended warranty tagged along. Save me from surprises or push my luck and hope for no whammies in the future with a used cam.
Thoughts?
Thanks forum community

Informative indeed. I love the recommendations - lots of info and extremely wise advice to budget and creative conscious ideas.
Shooting art work will be a regular occurrence... in conjunction with moving to Minnesota and the proximity to The Boundary Waters (as a born & raised Californian city guy), exploring a new environment which will prove to be rugged & weathered is going to be so tempting.
I will definitely be out and about trying to combat my fear of large mosquitos in the summer and bone crunching cold in the winter. Being behind the camera will help ease those gentle California bones of mine!
Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to share your feedback. Priceless information here and has certainly helped me avoid any major financial mistakes!

Im sure this is a common theme but the decision is difficult. Im on the fence due to the fact that Ive used plenty of DSLR's but have never owned one. The more technical aspects of photography are beyond my current abilities, however, Im a quick study and I don't want to find myself frustrated in a year after a k5iis purchase. My ultimate goals with this purchase vary a bit - Portrait photography, landscape, but the biggest influence is to photograph my paintings and drawings for website updates and to post to web market place environments. (My drawings range from very light tones that don't replicate well with casual photos.) I'm moving from California to Minnesota soon - that seems to be the biggest reason I'm convinced that Pentax will offer me the greatest versatility for interests. Just looking for that killer deal in the marketplace to ease my decision!
Paz!
PS - lenses suggestions for photographing art work would be such a great help!
Thanks
